Sylas felt that Kai had made good progress in putting words together and responding to things. Before, he had been quiet and afraid to speak, but now the young man was more active in replying, even if only with a smile. He was also able to explain things in more detail.
That night, Sylas spent time with Kai during dinner and read books with him. He chuckled every time Kai accidentally smiled widely while reading a fable about a frog and a monkey.
"You can read better now. Do you like it?" asked Sylas.
Kai nodded quickly. He grabbed a book with a picture of a prince on a white horse.
"You like stories about princesses and princes?" Sylas asked with a chuckle.
But Kai shook his head. "The prince died at the hands of the villagers because he saved the monster." Kai explained that he wanted to be the monster who protected the prince from his sad fate. He imagined the prince as the kind-hearted Sylas.
