Mystique walked into Kakashi's office in the Avengers Tower as Kakashi was seeing some superhuman appearances and their recordings with the help of Jarvis.
Kakashi sat behind his desk, his eyes focused on the footage of new powered individuals appearing in the city. He reviewed reports carefully, noting strengths, weaknesses, and potential threats or allies.
As he saw Mystique appear, "Back from your mission?" he asked in a calm but interested voice. He turned off the screens with a small gesture and gave her his full attention.
"Your world is more insane than ours was. It is just that your insane is hidden very deeply," Mystique said exaggeratedly.
She leaned against the wall with her arms crossed. She had spent days deep undercover and looked tired but satisfied with what she had discovered. The mission had been dangerous, but she had succeeded in getting inside the hidden parts of SHIELD.
"What have you gathered?" Kakashi asked seriously. He sat up straighter, ready to hear the full report. His expression showed he expected bad news but was prepared for it.
"You are dealing with a fucking cult. Yes, you were right about SHIELD having been compromised. But you should say that the entire organisation is mostly compromised. I bet fifty percent of the SHIELD personnel are working for another organisation," Mystique said.
"When I infiltrated the other SHIELD academy that you told me to go to? What I found out was crazy. I thought Erik or Charles were expert manipulators and brainwashers but these guys take the cake," she said.
She described how she had moved carefully through the secret academy, listening to conversations and accessing hidden files. The level of secrecy and loyalty she saw was shocking even to someone like her who had lived through many conspiracies.
She explained the training methods she had witnessed. The recruits were broken down mentally and rebuilt with complete loyalty to the hidden group.
They used psychological techniques, drugs, and constant propaganda to make sure no one would ever betray the organisation.
"They fucking brainwash their trainees in so many ways that you can imagine. They turn them into soldiers that would never betray the organisation," Mystique said.
Her voice carried disgust as she remembered the cold, efficient way the program worked.
Young agents were taught that their only purpose was to serve the greater goal, no matter what it cost them personally. Kakashi listened without interrupting, taking in every detail she provided.
Kakashi finally asked, "And what is the name of this organisation?"
Mystique said, "Hydra."
"I see," Kakashi said simply. He did not show much surprise in his voice, which made Mystique raise an annoyed eyebrow.
"Why are you not surprised? The organisation should be long dead. Captain America had killed their leader the Red Skull after all," Mystique said. She had expected more shock from him given how dangerous this discovery was.
"Oh I already had an idea. And an organisation that big would not have died so easily," Kakashi said, stumping Mystique.
He explained briefly that he had suspected something like this from small clues and inconsistencies in SHIELD's operations.
His experience with hidden villages and long-standing conflicts in his own world had taught him that powerful groups rarely disappeared completely.
"Well then, you would be more surprised than when I tell you about these trainees they are training for," Mystique continued.
She leaned forward, her voice becoming more serious. "Some of these trainees are being picked for some projects. I barely managed to get intel on some of them since they hide it behind a lot of locks."
Kakashi said, "Go ahead."
"First is The Centipede Project. It is a Hydra funded science program with the stated purpose of creating an army of super-powered soldiers for their cause and finding the means to bring them back from the dead when necessary," Mystique explained.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow at that. "Troublesome indeed. What is next?"
"Project Deathlok. It is aimed at producing enhanced cybernetic soldiers. They are turning some of the recruits into cyborgs. I saw one with a fucking rocket launcher for an arm," Mystique said.
Her description painted a picture of soldiers who were part machine, losing their humanity for power. The projects showed how far Hydra was willing to go to create the perfect army.
"And how many recruits do both of these projects have?" Kakashi asked.
"Hundreds but I do not think many of them survive them especially the Centipede Project," Mystique said grimly. She had seen the cold efficiency with which failed subjects were discarded. The human cost was high, but Hydra did not seem to care.
"Anything else you got on their plans?" Kakashi asked.
"There is also another project called Project Destroyer of the Worlds and some Project Insight. I did not manage to gather any information on them. Only the top of Hydra know of these projects," Mystique said.
She looked frustrated that she could not dig deeper, but the danger of getting caught had been too high.
"Judging from the previous two projects, these two would be much more troublesome," Kakashi said.
He leaned back in his chair, thinking about the bigger picture. Hydra was clearly planning something on a massive scale, and stopping them would not be easy.
"So what is our plan?" Mystique asked. She waited for Kakashi's decision, trusting his judgment after everything she had seen.
"Well, let us tell the others and get all hands on deck to find the perfect solution to this problem," Kakashi said.
