Chapter 227 - Chapter 226: Kakashi meets Deadpool

Kakashi had been trying to review the location of the Power stone in the universe when a portal appeared in his office. It was not the portal used the the sorcerers of Kamar Taj.

A masked man in a leather suit walking in front it. Kakashi's eyes narrowed immediately. His hand moved toward a kunai.

"You know," Deadpool said, looking around the office, "I expected something more dramatic. Maybe lightning. Maybe a portal. Maybe the Avengers theme playing in the background. But nope. Just pop, here I am. Honestly, the budget on this crossover is embarrassing."

Kakashi stared at him for several seconds. "Who are you?"

Deadpool placed a hand over his chest. "Ouch. Right in the feelings. After all we've been through."

"We haven't been through anything."

"Not yet."

Kakashi's eye narrowed further. "You teleported into Avengers Tower, appeared inside my office, and now you're acting like we know each other."

"That's because we do."

"We don't."

Deadpool pointed at him. "See? This is exactly what you always do."

Kakashi froze.

Deadpool continued casually, "That little eye thing. The suspicious stare. The whole 'I'm going to pretend I'm calm while mentally calculating seventeen ways to kill this idiot' routine. Classic Kakashi."

Deadpool leaned closer. "Oh, Kakashi. There are so many things I know about you."

For the first time, the amusement disappeared from Kakashi's eye. "Explain."

Deadpool counted on his fingers. "Kakashi Hatake. Copy Ninja. Sharingan user. Former ANBU. Former student of Minato Namikaze. You lost your dad. You lost Obito. You lost Rin. You spent years pretending you didn't care about anything while secretly caring about absolutely everything. You read Icha Icha in public."

Kakashi went completely still. His fingers tightened around the kunai. He had not told anything about his closed ones to anyone in this universe.

Deadpool looked at him.

Kakashi's voice was suddenly quiet. "How do you know that?"

"Which part?"

"All of it."

Deadpool shrugged. "I have my sources."

"You're lying."

"Correct."

Kakashi's Sharingan began to spin.

Deadpool immediately raised both hands. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Put the red eye away, Hatake. We're friends."

"We are not friends."

"Give it five minutes."

Kakashi stared at him.

Deadpool stared back. "Four minutes."

Kakashi sighed. "Why are you here?"

Deadpool pulled a small device from his belt. "Because your universe is apparently extremely important, mine is dying, and the people in charge of all the timeline nonsense think you can save it."

Kakashi's expression hardened. "No."

Deadpool blinked. "You didn't even hear the rest."

"I don't need to."

"That's actually a very mature response."

"I have responsibilities here."

Deadpool looked around the office. "Responsibilities?"

"Yes." Kakashi gestured toward the tower outside the window. "This is my universe. These are my people. I'm the leader of the Avengers. I have a duty to protect this world. And I am tired of going to alternate realities."

Deadpool slowly turned toward the window.

Then back to Kakashi.

"You're the leader of the Avengers?"

"Yes."

Deadpool put both hands on his hips. "Wow. That's going to make the fanbase furious."

Kakashi blinked. "What?"

"Nothing."

"You said something."

"I said nothing."

"You definitely said something."

Deadpool leaned toward the imaginary camera beside him. "He's totally going to find out eventually."

Kakashi looked around the room.

"There is no one there."

Deadpool pointed at him. "Exactly."

Kakashi stared. Deadpool stared back.

After several seconds, Kakashi decided that whatever was happening, it was probably not worth trying to understand.

Deadpool then told Kakashi about the situation with his universe even though Kakashi did not ask to hear it.

"You said your universe is dying," Kakashi said.

"Yep."

"And you need an anchor."

"Yep."

"And apparently I'm capable of doing that because I don't properly belong to this timeline."

"Yep."

"Then find someone else."

Deadpool's shoulders dropped.

"Wow."

"What?"

"You really are Kakashi."

Kakashi frowned.

Deadpool sighed dramatically. "Always putting everyone else before yourself. Noble. Responsible. Mature. Annoyingly attractive in that emotionally unavailable older-man way—"

"Stop."

"Fine."

Kakashi rubbed his forehead. Deadpool wandered around the office while Kakashi continued watching him suspiciously. He inspected the bookshelves, picked up a paperweight, examined a framed photograph of the Avengers, and eventually opened a drawer.

Kakashi's eyes sharpened. "Don't."

Deadpool froze.

His hand remained inside the drawer.

Slowly, he pulled something out. It was a magazine. He looked at the cover. Then at Kakashi. Then back at the magazine. There was a long silence.

Deadpool's eyes widened behind his mask. "Oh."

Kakashi immediately stood. "Put that down."

Deadpool held it up. "Ladies and gentlemen…"

"You...."

"We have found the true source of Kakashi Hatake's power."

"Give it to me."

"A man of culture!"

Kakashi crossed the room in an instant.

Deadpool held the magazine above his head. "Don't be ashamed, Kakashi. Millions of men have walked this path before you."

"Give it."

"I'm just impressed. You're the leader of the Avengers, you command one of the most powerful teams on Earth, you've fought aliens, gods, monsters, and interdimensional threats…"

Deadpool looked at the magazine again.

"…and this is what you keep hidden in your desk."

Kakashi snatched it with a body flicker and immediately shoved it into the drawer.

Kakashi returned to his desk, clearly reconsidering every decision that had led him to this moment.

Deadpool leaned against the desk. "So… you're really not coming?"

"No."

"Even if your decision saves an entire universe?"

"I have a universe of my own to protect."

Deadpool nodded slowly. "Fair."

Kakashi looked at him suspiciously.

Deadpool's voice became quieter. "I figured you'd say that."

"You did?"

"Yeah."

"Then why come here?"

Deadpool looked toward the window. "For the same reason you stayed here."

Kakashi's expression softened slightly.

Deadpool shrugged. "You found a world that became home. I found one too. Mine's just… apparently being deleted."

For once, there was no joke attached to the statement. The silence lasted several seconds.
