UK:GSW Chapter 412 – Son Gokū? I'm Not Worthy of That Name! From Today, Call Me Son Malo
"Pick an avatar? From now on, we have to present ourselves in human disguise?"
This sudden request left the Tailed Beasts completely dumbfounded. Each of them froze, unsure how to respond. The idea was just too bizarre—it felt like someone had forcibly overridden their common sense.
But once they recovered from the initial shock, their reactions varied. Some instinctively resisted—after all, they still hated humans. Even though Tamamo-no-Mae's suggested avatars all incorporated some beast-like traits, they were, in essence, humanoid figures with animal ears and tails—nothing like a real beast, and even further from a Tailed Beast's true form.
In short, these avatars did not fit the aesthetic preferences of many Tailed Beasts.
Of course, there were some who actually liked the idea.
Take Matatabi, the Two-Tails, for example. Despite her huge, blazing-blue, fearsome "nekomata" appearance, she actually had one of the friendlier personalities among the Tailed Beasts, and even got along decently with her jinchūriki.
Given that, she didn't resist Tamamo-no-Mae's avatar suggestion at all—she quickly picked one she liked: a petite, blue-haired catgirl with adorable ears and a matching tail.
Tamamo-no-Mae even offered to customize it further—adding a second tail so it would match Matatabi's real form, making her a true "nekomata girl."
And so, Matatabi became the first to don a human avatar—appearing as a cute, thirteen- or fourteen-year-old nekomata girl with intricate braided blue hair, a blue dress, white thigh-high stockings, and little leather shoes. The look was pure anime-style—a head-turner in any crowd.
Of course, in the illusion game, such an appearance was perfectly normal—if anything, not particularly outlandish.
After all, the illusion game had been out for almost a year now, and the illusion network for six months. Its high degree of customization meant players were already experimenting with wild appearances—some going for artistic abstraction, others simply concealing their real faces with masks or altering their build beyond recognition.
With the ability to hide one's real identity, "letting loose" in the illusion world had become second nature for many.
The real chaos wasn't in the games—it was in the forums and anonymous message boards, where radical opinions ran rampant. Uchiha Kei strictly moderated anything that directly attacked Konoha or its key figures—instant deletion, no exceptions. Freedom of speech? In the ninja world, that was a fairy tale—saying the wrong thing could get you killed.
Still, Konoha was careful to keep up the appearance of "objectivity" online, thanks to the media empire run by Uzumaki Kikyō, who was rapidly becoming the "media queen" of the shinobi world. Under her subtle influence, public discourse was full of praise for Konoha as a utopia, contrasting it with the suffering and corruption elsewhere—all without leaving obvious fingerprints linking it back to Konoha.
The Tailed Beasts, for their part, didn't care much about the real world anymore. In the illusion world, they were free—truly free—and even had their own vast "Illusionary Great World" to explore, just like Tamamo-no-Mae.
After Matatabi completed her transformation, the others began picking avatars as well. Resistance faded quickly—it was the classic "once someone goes first, everyone follows."
Shukaku's current predicament—still roasting on a spit nearby—also served as a strong incentive to cooperate.
One by one, the Tailed Beasts chose their new forms.
All except one.
Son Gokū, the Four-Tails, received… special treatment.
Both Nine-Tails—Sett from World No. 2 and Tamamo-no-Mae from the Main World—were staring at him with odd expressions: a mix of scrutiny, dissatisfaction, and disdain. And they hadn't even prepared an avatar for him.
Feeling uneasy and irritated, the red-furred, horned ape finally snapped, "Hey, what's with those looks? And why am I the only one without an avatar?"
Tamamo-no-Mae glanced at Sett, who grinned and stepped forward with a lopsided "dragon king" smirk that made Son Gokū instinctively take a step back.
"What's your deal? What are you getting at?" the Four-Tails demanded.
Sett slung a massive arm over his shoulder in mock camaraderie. "It's nothing personal… We just think you're not worthy of the name 'Son Gokū.' We'd like you to change it."
The other Tailed Beasts blinked in surprise. Son Gokū, after a brief stunned silence, exploded.
That name was his reverse scale—the thing he valued most. It was the name given to him by the Sage of Six Paths himself, his truest identity.
In the shinobi world, that was all it meant. But after spending time in the illusion world, both Nine-Tails now understood exactly what "Son Gokū" meant in other worlds—thanks to the media and games Uchiha Kei had brought over.
Whether it was Dragon Ball's Son Gokū or the legendary Monkey King of Journey to the West, the name belonged to heroes of unimaginable power. For the Four-Tails to use it was… blasphemy, frankly.
Now that such cultural legends existed in the shared mental network, the Nine-Tails were determined to make him change it—if only to save him from tempting fate. In a world where dimensional travel was possible, who knew what kind of cosmic retribution might follow?
But the Four-Tails refused outright. Not using his name was unthinkable—it was the only gift the Sage had left him.
The Nine-Tails didn't push back with anger. Instead, Sett softened his tone: "We understand. Your name is your truth. Keep it as your real name… But when you're dealing with the outside world, don't call yourself that. The name's too heavy—you can't carry it. It could bring disaster on you one day."
This was classic compromise—Tailed Beast style. Faced with the choice between completely giving up the name and simply using an alias in public, the Four-Tails hesitated.
To seal the deal—and to convince the other Tailed Beasts they weren't just messing with him—both Nine-Tails used Uchiha Kei's admin privileges to show them something special: a visual record of the real Monkey King's legend.
It was a stunning, ultra-HD, fully immersive depiction—based on the game Black Myth: Wukong but upgraded with impossible visual effects. They watched the Monkey King's life: from his birth from stone, to training under his master, raiding the Dragon Palace, defying the heavens, battling the Four Heavenly Kings, Erlang Shen, and hundreds of thousands of celestial soldiers—growing to the size of a mountain and shaking the world.
And finally, they watched him be pinned beneath the Five Elements Mountain by the Buddha himself.
When the vision ended, the Tailed Beasts sat in stunned silence.
The Four-Tails finally spoke, his voice serious: "You're right. I can't live up to the name 'Son Gokū.' From now on, don't call me that—I'm not worthy. If you don't mind… just call me Son Malo, or simply Son."
