Chapter 479 - Chapter 479: A Wager Between Gods

Champa's sudden arrival and his casual obliteration of Frieza left everyone reeling with shock. The God of Destruction from Universe 6 had appeared without warning—what kind of cosmic event could bring two Gods of Destruction to the same location simultaneously?! Moreover, Champa's appearance clearly marked him as the same species as Beerus, suggesting they shared some deeper connection.

Some warriors had heard Raditz mention Champa during previous conversations, but this represented their first glimpse of the deity in person. Beerus hadn't anticipated his counterpart's arrival—his eyes instantly turned glacially cold with territorial suspicion.

"What are you doing here?" Beerus' tone carried dangerous undertones.

"Did you forget? The day of our competition approaches."

"You came for that?" Beerus suddenly understood, though confusion lingered. "The scheduled date hasn't arrived yet, has it?"

They'd once engaged in a catastrophic dispute over birthday cake. Since a direct contest of destructive force would prove disastrous for both universes, they'd agreed to hold periodic food competitions to determine supremacy instead.

Regarding food competitions, Beerus felt supremely confident in victory. Earth's culinary offerings alone surpassed everything Champa could possibly produce across his entire universe. Melba's strawberry preserves, Cuckoo bird feathers... what absolute garbage!

"I came to prepare materials!" Champa's indignation exploded with childish fury. "Who knew you'd hidden the Super Dragon Balls!"

"Lord Champa, why would you reveal your objective so carelessly?"

"It's fine, Vados." Champa planted both hands on his rotund hips, displaying zero fear despite his tactical blunder. "Beerus, let's have a fair competition! I need to restore Earth in my universe—otherwise it's completely unfair that you monopolize having an Earth!"

"Wait, Universe 6 doesn't have Earth?" Beerus' surprise was genuine.

"Human stupidity led to the species' complete extinction." Vados explained with her characteristic serene smile, as though discussing something trivial rather than planetary genocide.

Beerus became even more insufferable after hearing this revelation. "Then how is that my problem?! Hmph, blame your own universe's failures..."

The two Gods of Destruction immediately devolved into bickering—arguing like children fighting over toys. Every spectator stood dumbfounded witnessing this divine tantrum. Some couldn't help wondering internally, These are... gods?

Rukon quietly whispered to his father, "Dad, you're also a god—would you ever be this childish?"

Raditz felt a metaphorical vein throb in his forehead. I've never behaved like this! Beerus and Champa are sullying the reputation of deities everywhere. At least Supreme Kai Shin maintains proper dignity.

"Regardless, I'm not leaving without Earth! Beerus, hand over those Super Dragon Balls!" Champa's demands escalated into full tantrum territory, practically stamping his feet.

But Beerus genuinely had no knowledge of any "Super Dragon Balls," repeatedly insisting he knew nothing about them. Only after Whis provided extensive explanation did he grasp the basic concept.

"I know nothing about Super Dragon Balls! Besides, they originate from my Seventh Universe, making your presence here outright theft!"

"I..." Champa's momentum deflated instantly, his accusatory finger lowering.

Vados laughed with gentle amusement. "I warned Lord Champa not to reveal his intentions so transparently. Now we've reached an impasse."

"Whose side are you on?!" Champa's face flushed crimson as he yelled at his attendant. His gaze suddenly snapped toward Raditz like targeting lightning. "You! Raditz! This was your doing, wasn't it?"

He knew Raditz maintained contact with the Super Dragon Balls. When visiting Universe 6, Raditz had expressed interest in collecting them—this had to be his manipulation.

Being directly targeted by Champa left Raditz with no avenue for escape. After all, the Seventh Universe's Super Dragon Balls genuinely resided in his custody—hidden near King Kai's planet for extended periods. Champa's inability to locate them had forced him to expose himself so dramatically, coming to demand answers directly.

"Lord Champa, the Super Dragon Balls are indeed in my possession. I stored them with King Kai for safekeeping."

"King Kai?" Champa's expression turned thunderously dark, teeth grinding audibly.

Far away on his diminutive planet, King Kai of the North observed Earth's situation and shivered involuntarily. "I knew this wouldn't end well! Raditz stored them here—this has nothing to do with me! NOTHING!" The Kai wanted to weep but lacked tears. He desperately wanted no involvement in disputes between Gods of Destruction.

Remembering how Beerus had obliterated most of his planet during a game of hide-and-seek made fresh sweat bead across King Kai's forehead.

Raditz refused to let King Kai shoulder blame for his decisions. He addressed Champa with confident composure. "Lord Champa, if you want the Seventh Universe's Super Dragon Balls, I have an excellent proposal. We'll exchange them for Universe 6's Super Dragon Balls."

"What did you say?!"

Champa's complexion shifted dramatically, his body tensing to attack. Vados intercepted him smoothly, that mysterious smile never wavering. "Lord Champa, this represents sound reasoning. If Universe 6 and Universe 7 each possess only partial sets, the Super Dragon Balls remain permanently unusable. Since Lord Champa desires them so intensely, you might as well earn them properly."

"Earn them?" Champa's eyes rolled as understanding dawned, as though receiving divine inspiration. "Perfect! Beerus, do you dare accept a wager with me?!"

"Hmph. Am I afraid of you? What stakes are you proposing?"

"We'll hold a tournament! The victor claims all Super Dragon Balls—how does that sound? If you lose, you surrender everything stored with King Kai. Naturally, we'll do the same with our collection."

A tournament? Beerus hadn't anticipated this specific proposal.

Raditz had predicted precisely this development, his slight smile conveying satisfaction. "Acceptable terms."

"Hey, Raditz, don't make unilateral decisions!" Beerus still deliberated whether to accept. From his perspective, victory would be excellent, but defeat meant losing the Super Dragon Balls. With Earth resurrected in Champa's universe, the food competition's entire dynamic would shift dramatically in his rival's favor.

Whis, however, stood firmly beside Raditz and fanned the flames of competition. "Oh my, is Lord Beerus feeling... frightened?"

"Should I be scared?! Fine, I accept your challenge!"

Beerus finally committed to the gamble. After all, his universe boasted multiple Saiyans and numerous exceptional warriors. Regardless of competition format, defeat seemed impossible.

Amid the sound of crashing waves and distant thunder, the supreme deities of both universes established the terms for a cosmic tournament.

Everyone present felt tremendous excitement hearing these developments. Fighting against Universe 6's finest warriors, engaging in genuine interdimensional combat—what an extraordinary opportunity! Even spectators who wouldn't participate felt thrilled at the prospect of witnessing such high-caliber battles.

"Raditz, you're forbidden from participating. You hold the position of Supreme Kai." Champa suddenly remembered the Saiyan's unique status. Though Raditz's strength didn't match his own divine power, the gap had narrowed substantially. Champa harbored genuine fear that continued improvement might see Raditz eventually surpass him.

He hastily sealed this potential exploit, establishing preventive measures before they became necessary.

"Understood. I won't participate." Raditz had never intended to compete personally anyway. With his current strength, he unquestionably ranked as the number one warrior beneath Gods of Destruction across both universes. Even Hit couldn't compare to his evolved capabilities.

Universe 6's warriors would provide more than adequate challenge for Goku and the others.

Believing he'd secured crucial advantage, Champa announced terms happily. "Excellent! Five warriors per universe. The tournament begins in seven days at the neutral boundary between our universes. Bring your Super Dragon Balls then!"

"Hmph. As you've stated." Beerus' agreement carried cold finality.

Beerus already possessed candidate selections in mind. Even without Raditz participating, he still commanded two legendary warriors—Goku and Vegeta. The remaining three slots... His gaze swept across the assembled fighters, slowly settling on Frieza attempting to slink away and hide.

The tyrant's eyes widened as divine attention locked onto him.

"Frieza! You're participating as well, or I'll destroy you myself!"

What?!

Beerus' thunderous declaration froze Frieza mid-step, his expression shifting to complete bewilderment. What does this have to do with me?! What crime have I committed to deserve this?! He'd arrived on Earth anticipating glorious revenge, and now wanted nothing more than to weep at his catastrophic misfortune...
