Gu You slowly opened his eyes. The eight soul rings around him quietly retracted.
He had never experienced such a marvelous feeling. Even the act of breathing seemed to draw the power of the world into his body. With each breath, the fluctuations of his bloodline fused imperceptibly with his soul power, gradually and naturally elevating his cultivation.
"Come on, the third seal."
His gaze sharpened. He was about to do something big again.
He gently pressed his chest with a smile.
In an instant, a terrifying force of destruction spread outward.
His heartbeat was loud and clear.
Eternal radiated dazzling multicolored light. It connected to the void where the seal of the Purple-Gold Dragon Emperor resided.
It had begun to loosen.
Two divine rings appeared behind Gu You's head, rapidly shrinking and expanding as if breathing. At the moment of expansion, the surrounding destructive energy surged toward the back of his head and started forming the third divine ring.
At the same time, scales began to spread across Gu You's entire body. His bloodline surged violently.
The Purple-Gold Dragon Halberd appeared beside him, circling him like a loyal guardian.
'What the hell is this third seal?' Gu You's tightly shut eyes twitched. A thought suddenly struck him.
'No!'
This third seal... it was meant to fully convert his human bloodline into that of a dragon.
It would make him a soul beast, completely!
His mind went blank for a moment. After living as a human for so long, he was now about to be transformed into something else?
Shaking his head, Gu You sighed.
'Since I've chosen the path of a soul master, there's no turning back.'
'Besides, so what if I'm not human? And what if I am?'
'Are all humans truly worthy of being called human? Are all soul beasts truly beasts?'
Though that may be true, Gu You still wanted to retain a part of his human bloodline.
He made up his mind. At that moment, he used a dragon claw to slice open his other hand. A drop of crimson blood, tinged with purple and faintly glimmering in rainbow hues, emerged.
The drop of blood slowly turned into a mist and gradually merged into his newly formed soul core.
Let them completely fuse.
Although this drop of blood carried traces of the Purple-Gold Dragon Emperor and Dragon God bloodlines, it also preserved a portion of Gu You's original human bloodline.
'Let this drop of blood live on with the soul core, for all time.'
And so, the soul core's name became: "Eternal."
Surprisingly, the third seal turned out to be much simpler than Gu You expected. There was no pain—barely any sensation at all.
But once broken, he found that the Purple-Gold Dragon Emperor martial soul had completely merged into his being.
Even his Martial Soul True Body had undergone a unique transformation.
He could now manifest his martial soul true form without needing any soul rings.
The purity of his bloodline granted him a special connection to the Purple-Gold Dragon Halberd, almost as if it were part of his body.
Overall, this transformation put his power beyond the reach of any ordinary Limit Douluo.
...
An entire day passed before the rest of the Blood God Army gradually awoke. The sensation was extraordinary. Everyone felt reborn under the nourishment of that immense life energy.
When Gu You returned to the Blood God Battalion, Xue Yi was already waiting for him.
"Although I probably shouldn't ask, I can't help myself. That overwhelming life force—what exactly was it?" Xue Yi stared at him curiously.
Gu You paused for a moment and said, "Have you heard of the Child of Nature?"
Xue San's face changed. He blurted out, "Of course I have."
The Child of Nature was one chosen by the natural world itself. On the Douluo Continent, such individuals held high status and possessed the power of nature. They were rare throughout history.
And every single one of them was a peerless genius.
"I get the idea," Xue Yi said. "No need to explain further."
He stared deeply at Gu You. "This time, you brought immense benefits to the whole corps. Everyone received life energy nourishment, and their cultivation has increased. What kind of reward do you want?"
"Reward? There's a reward? I wasn't expecting that! Anything I want?" Gu You's eyes sparkled with excitement.
Xue Yi had been smiling until that last part. Then he chuckled helplessly.
"Of course. As long as it's not too outrageous."
"Alright then, I'll say it straight. I want my own personal mecha regiment!" Gu You said without hesitation.
Xue Yi looked at him for a moment but didn't object. "Fine. I'll report to Long Tianwu. You'll get the best answer possible."
"Thanks a lot!"
Gu You left in high spirits. He was about to have his own army.
'Forget that mercenary nonsense,' he thought. 'Unless they send ten Limit Douluo at once, who's going to stop me?'
Xue Yi smiled. This reward was well within bounds. After all, the mecha corps still had room.
Compared to the Blood God Army's highest reward—red-grade mechas—this was nothing.
...
There were still several days left before the next round of the Star Dou Battle Network. After the final mecha battle post-bye-round, there weren't many matches to play.
Ding!
Gu You's Blood God Ring lit up. A soul communication alert came through.
"Xue Yi, hello."
"Come see me. I've already promoted your rank. Tianwu has agreed. You're not just part of the Blood God Battalion now—you're officially the commander of the Blood God Sixth Mecha Regiment."
Gu You's heart warmed. He expressed his gratitude.
When he arrived, he was surprised to find not just Xue Yi present, but all nine of the Blood God Battalion's Blood Gods—Xue Yi through Xue Jiu.
"Greetings, sir!" Gu You stood at attention and saluted.
Xue Yi looked at him solemnly. "As per your request, and after verification and discussion with the corps command, we've decided to promote you to the rank of Colonel! This also serves as a combined reward for your outstanding performance in the Star Dou Battle Network."
"Yes, sir!"
Gu You stepped forward as Xue San approached holding a tray draped with red cloth. Resting on it were two dazzling shoulder insignia.
Two stripes and three stars—gleaming with golden brilliance.
Every young man dreams of being a soldier. And any soldier who doesn't dream of being a general is no good soldier. As a boy, Gu You had dreamed of becoming a commander too. Seeing the stars and stripes before him, he couldn't help but beam with excitement.
Xue Yi personally affixed the insignia to his uniform. The other eight Blood Gods all smiled faintly.
Xue Yi said, "Now that your rank exceeds Lieutenant Colonel, from this moment on, you are no longer an auxiliary member. You are now an official probationary member of the Blood God Battalion. Your next goal... is him."
He pointed at Xue Jiu.
"Outside of the Nine Blood Gods, probationary members..."
