Chapter 123 - Chapter 125 Open again

Perhaps because he was no longer under the control of the mind scepter, a defeated Loki began looking for a way out.

He knew that although the Chitauri soldiers were still causing trouble, that was all they were—trouble. It was now almost impossible to rely on them to conquer Earth.

"What solution do you have?"Thor asked impatiently, gripping Loki's shoulder. Deep down, Thor hoped that if Loki could do something right for once, maybe he could plead his case when they returned to Asgard.

With everyone staring at him, Loki finally spoke:

"I once boarded a Chitauri ship… and I discovered a secret. These Chitauri… they're not a true species. They're weapons."

"Weapons?"Steve frowned, unsure what Loki meant.

"Yes. They're not alive in the way you think. They have no souls, no thoughts of their own. They don't act with purpose—they act because they're controlled. Every movement is dictated by a central brain."

He paused, then continued:

"In other words, destroy that brain… and they all die."

"Is that brain on the mothership? But Clark already closed the portal."Clark immediately remembered—in the original movie, the war was won because Tony destroyed the Chitauri command ship.

But now the portal was closed. Even if they knew what to do, there was no way back—unless…

Loki simply shrugged. "I can reopen the portal."

"Open it again?"Steve glanced at the soldiers still wreaking havoc. He wasn't sure it was worth the risk. The last time that portal opened, a full army came through.

Could Loki be trusted?

"Let's do it," Clark finally said.

"We're all at our limits. If we keep fighting like this, someone's going to die. It's worth trying. Even if Loki's lying, we don't lose much. I'll destroy the command ship myself."

Then Clark turned to Thor:

"You guard the portal. Try to stop any Chitauri from making it through. They'll be grouped together as they come in—easier to handle."

He turned to Tony:

"You stay in the city. Make sure none of them escape Manhattan."

Then to Diana and Steve:

"Sweep the city. Kill every last one hiding in the buildings."

Finally to Banner:

"Hulk… smash."

"ROAR!"

With orders issued, Clark took the Tesseract from Natasha, grabbed Loki by the collar, and flew to the roof of Stark Tower, where the machine was still intact.

"Where's Dr. Selvig?"Clark realized he hadn't seen the man in a while.

"No idea. He snapped out of it, so I knocked him out. He's probably hiding somewhere."Loki replied casually, taking the cube from Clark.

He inserted it into the machine and adjusted the components.

"One more thing. You'll need to tell Stark to turn the building's power back on. Without it, the cube won't activate."

"No need. I'll try something else."Clark extended his hand toward the cube, believing that his own Space Stone energy—and his solar energy—would be enough.

Moments later, golden light flashed from his palm, and a massive surge of power blasted outward from the cube, nearly knocking Loki off his feet.

Within seconds, a bright blue beam shot into the sky—the portal reopened.

"Now!"Clark flew directly into the newly opened rift.

On the other side of the portal, Chitauri soldiers had been waiting—still under command, circling the last known location of the gate.

The moment it reopened, they surged forward—only to find a man with an 'S' on his chest waiting with glowing fists.

Golden-blue light erupted.

Leviathans shattered. Flyers exploded.

Clark tore through them like a storm of vengeance.

After clearing the area around the gate, Clark soared into the unknown star system. There, he saw it:

An endless sea of Chitauri soldiers.

They weren't charging yet, only waiting—waiting for orders, waiting for a path to Earth, waiting for the signal from their commander's brain to claim the Infinity Stones.

But Clark didn't waste time.

He didn't even look at the horde.

He blasted straight toward the Chitauri mothership, where the central brain was housed.

That was the real target.

Earth was still being ravaged by Chitauri soldiers. More were preparing to enter.

But if Clark destroyed that brain—all of them, on both sides of the portal, would die instantly.

Clark could feel it: the defenses around the ship weren't as tight as they should have been. Maybe because too much of the brain's energy was being spent trying to command so many Chitauri across the galaxy.

Or maybe the shields weren't even up.

That was fine by Clark. Shielded or not, he would end this.
