Evelyn looked at her daughter and her eyes softened immediately. She slowly raised her hand and wiped the tears from Elena's face.
"I am fine," she said gently. "Because of you."
Her voice was still weak, but the warmth in it was unchanged. She then lifted her hand and softly caressed Elena's head.
"Thank you," she added quietly.
Elena shook her head at once. "There is no need to thank me," she said, her voice firm despite the emotion in it. "I would do anything for you."
Evelyn's eyes grew softer at her words.
Meanwhile, Reginald carefully opened the container and scooped out some warm chicken bone broth that Elena had brought. He adjusted Evelyn's bed gently, raising it slightly so she could sit more comfortably. Then he placed a napkin around her neck with careful hands, making sure she was at ease before bringing the spoon closer.
"Slowly," he said softly.
He fed her sip by sip, patiently waiting after each spoonful to make sure she was comfortable.
