A day and a half passed in a flash.
Jiraiya and the others arrived at the Hokage's office right on time.
When they saw Naruto and the rest of the younger generation already assembled, they weren't particularly surprised. After all, these kids had shown terrifying strength during the graduation exam—strength not inferior to their own.
"Let's go," Kitazawa said as he rose to his feet.
The group quickly made their way to the clearing before the Forest of Death.
Time ticked by in tense silence.
"They're here."
Hiashi, Byakugan activated, detected the Akatsuki's approach and immediately warned everyone.
A few breaths later, sharp whistling cut through the air as more than a dozen figures shot in from the distance and landed heavily on the ground.
At the front stood the Six Paths of Pain.
Behind him were six Akatsuki members—new recruits, completely absent from the original story.
Kitazawa narrowed his eyes. As expected, Zetsu and Obito are hiding in the shadows and haven't shown themselves.
That was only natural.
Zetsu had always served as Akatsuki's intelligence operative, rarely, if ever, displaying combat power.
And Obito's Kamui was perfect for ambushes. He was far more dangerous lurking in the dark than standing in the open.
"Yahiko?" Jiraiya blurted out when he saw the Deva Path.
"Hand over the Seven-Tails and Nine-Tails, and I can spare your lives," Pain said coldly, completely ignoring Jiraiya.
"That's absolutely impossible," Kitazawa replied with a firm shake of his head.
"In that case, I'll show you the power of a god."
Without another word, Pain gave a sharp wave of his hand.
Summoning Technique!
The Animal Path swiftly formed hand seals and slammed his hands onto the ground.
In an explosion of smoke, giant Summoning Beasts appeared one after another—the Hell Hound, the Giant Bird, the Fighting Bull, the Panda, and more.
"The three of you, use the Summoning Technique," Kitazawa ordered, glancing at Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata.
The three immediately bit their thumbs and pressed their hands to the ground.
With three thunderous booms and clouds of white smoke, three colossal figures emerged: Gamabunta of Mount Myōboku, Manda of Ryūchi Cave, and Katsuyu of the Shikkotsu Forest.
Jiraiya, who had been about to perform his own Summoning Technique, froze mid-seal.
He stared at the three familiar Summoning Beasts, momentarily dazed.
Fugaku and Hiashi felt their hearts stir as well.
The Konoha Sannin's symbol had always been the Summoning Beasts from the Three Great Sacred Grounds.
Now it was clear: the future of Konoha would rest on the shoulders of this new generation.
Before they could dwell on the thought, the battle between the Summoning Beasts had already erupted.
Their massive bodies brought overwhelming destructive force.
For a time, the mountains shook, the ground quaked, and dust billowed into the sky.
"Let's go!" Naruto shouted. "Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
In an instant, a dense swarm of Shadow Clones filled the battlefield.
Naruto charged straight toward the other Akatsuki members, his clones surging beside him.
Yakumo followed close behind. She had already realized her Genjutsu was useless against the Rinnegan-bearing Six Paths of Pain.
Multiple Arrows!
Standing firm, Hinata drew and released her bowstring.
Nine Yin Release Arrows streaked across the air.
Neji, his Byakugan locking precisely onto the Animal Path, unleashed his attack.
Absorption Seal!
The Preta Path suddenly flashed in front of the Animal Path, intercepting the Spiral Arrow.
The powerful technique was swallowed up in an instant, absorbed completely.
Sasuke's gaze, meanwhile, had settled on the Asura Path. Aside from the Deva Path, the Asura Path's firepower was the most terrifying.
Shino raised both hands.
A dense cloud of Kikaichu erupted forth, surging straight toward the Human Path.
"You all stay back and watch for now," Kitazawa said, stopping Jiraiya and the others from taking action.
According to the original plan, Naruto and the others were only supposed to handle the six Akatsuki members.
But it was obvious those six alone weren't enough to pressure them. Adding the Five Paths of Pain to the field would finally make things about even.
"Shinra Tensei!"
Pain's gaze locked onto Kitazawa.
An invisible repulsive force exploded outward, blasting away the Naruto Shadow Clones blocking his way, then continued surging straight toward Kitazawa.
"Wood Release: Wood Locking Wall!"
Kitazawa clapped his hands together.
Thick wooden pillars burst from the ground in front of him, curving inward and joining overhead to form an arched barricade.
The repulsive force slammed into the wooden wall, making the entire structure shudder violently.
"Fall back!"
Kitazawa shouted a warning, then sprang into the air.
"Lightning Release: Chidori Senbon!"
Mid-leap, he flicked his right hand. Brilliant lightning flared, condensing into countless senbon that rained down toward Pain.
With Shinra Tensei still on cooldown, Pain immediately flashed to the left, narrowly avoiding the attack.
Kitazawa landed and rushed after him without hesitation.
To the north, the Forest of Death bordered a stretch of continuous mountain ranges.
At that moment, Obito stood atop one of those peaks, masked, silently overlooking the distant battlefield.
Unlike before, he carried a war fan.
It was the Uchiha war fan, capable of deflecting and absorbing enemy ninjutsu, then converting it into a violent storm.
In the original story, Obito had once used this fan to deflect Naruto's Rasengan.
Madara was even more outrageous—he had batted away one of Naruto's small Tailed Beast Balls with the same type of fan.
Obito's gaze was fixed on Kitazawa, his eyes burning with a deep, festering hatred.
He had not forgotten the humiliation of having his arm severed.
Even if the one who actually did it was Kakashi.
Just then, Zetsu emerged from the ground beside him.
Its body was split cleanly into black and white halves—Black Zetsu and White Zetsu combined.
Of course, this White Zetsu was the original body.
"What terrifying strength."
Black Zetsu stared at Kitazawa, who was currently suppressing Pain, and couldn't help but mutter in shock.
In its view, aside from the chakra reincarnations of Asura and Indra, such a powerful existence shouldn't appear in the ninja world.
And Kitazawa was clearly not Asura's or Indra's reincarnation.
His age and bloodline didn't match at all.
On the contrary, Naruto and Sasuke were highly likely to be the current reincarnations of Asura and Indra.
They were both born in the same year Madara died.
One from the Uzumaki clan, one from the Uchiha clan.
"Can Nagato win?"
White Zetsu's voice broke the silence.
"Pain alone will have a hard time winning."
Black Zetsu thought for a moment, then continued, "He has to use all Six Paths together, or summon the Gedo Statue."
It was very familiar with Senju Hashirama's power and the might of Wood Release.
Kitazawa wasn't on Hashirama's level, but judging from his current performance, his strength was clearly above Pain's.
"If I find a good opportunity, I can help him."
Obito's tone was icy.
His confidence came from Kamui and Izanagi.
Kamui would let him approach Kitazawa without being noticed.
And even if he failed, Izanagi could rewrite his death.
Black Zetsu and White Zetsu stayed quiet at that.
They both understood the hatred Obito held toward Kitazawa.
At the same time, they knew that if Obito cooperated with Nagato, killing Kitazawa was genuinely possible.
In truth, Obito wasn't the only one.
If a suitable opening appeared, Black Zetsu would also seize the chance to launch a sneak attack on Kitazawa.
However, Black Zetsu had always been extremely cautious.
If there was even the slightest hint of danger, it would immediately abandon the attempt.
It had waited a thousand years to rescue Ōtsutsuki Kaguya. Patience was second nature to it.
Unless driven into a true dead end, it would never act rashly.
"Is this the power of a god? Nothing special!"
After trading blows for a while, Kitazawa raised his voice and mocked his opponent.
On the sidelines, Jiraiya, Fugaku, and the others watching the clash all let out a quiet breath of relief.
Until now, the Akatsuki Organization had weighed heavily on them.
They had already captured seven Jinchūriki, and even Ōnoki and the Fourth Raikage had been helpless before their strength.
But now, seeing this fight, it seemed—as Kitazawa said—they weren't as terrifying as they had imagined.
"You want to see the power of a god? As you wish!"
The Pain immediately drew back the chakra he had distributed to the other Five Paths.
Kitazawa's taunt was the signal he'd been waiting for.
Even an act had to be played with full force.
"Planetary Devastation!"
Pain rose into the air, hands pressed together.
A small black sphere appeared in the sky, radiating a horrifying suction.
In an instant, the ground convulsed.
Trees, rubble, plants—everything not rooted deep enough—tore free and surged upward into the heavens.
"What is this?!"
Fugaku and the others stared wide-eyed, faces filled with shock.
The earth-shattering sight made their hearts pound.
On a distant mountainside—
Obito's gaze sharpened.
"It's Planetary Devastation."
Black Zetsu's mood visibly lifted. "Nagato has finally shown his true strength!"
"But Kitazawa has the Flying Thunder God," White Zetsu reminded him. "He can dodge planetary devastation."
At the mention of the Flying Thunder God, Obito's expression twisted with resentment.
Back then, he had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, brimming with confidence, and attacked Konoha to unleash the Nine-Tails.
He hadn't expected to be completely outplayed by Minato's Flying Thunder God.
"He can dodge it, but the others can't," Black Zetsu said with a shake of its head. "Kitazawa's only option is to forcibly break Planetary Devastation."
"This is an opportunity," Obito murmured, his heart stirred by the thought.
Planetary Devastation was hailed as the strongest sealing technique in the ninja world.
Once you fell within its range, the overwhelming gravity took hold. Even your chakra flow would be disturbed, leaving you unable to move.
"If Planetary Devastation can work, it's worth trying," Black Zetsu said thoughtfully.
At the edge of the Forest of Death—
"Defend!"
Jiraiya shouted, though he didn't need to. Fugaku and Hyūga Hiashi had already moved.
The all-encompassing suction was dragging them toward the sky.
For the first time, they truly understood how terrifying the legendary Rinnegan was.
For a moment, everyone's thoughts turned to Kitazawa, worry tightening in their chests.
At that same moment, Kitazawa was calmly considering how to deal with planetary devastation.
He thought it over, then decided not to use the World-Ending Arrow to shatter it like he had last time.
This time, he wanted to try drawing Obito out.
He could confirm Obito's location through Minato if he had to—but that was a last resort, to be used only when there was no other choice.
If Obito would come out on his own, that would be ideal.
Sage Mode.
Wood Release: Wood Golem Jutsu!
Kitazawa swiftly formed hand seals.
The next moment, a colossal wooden golem erupted into existence.
It planted itself before everyone, bracing against the crushing pull of planetary devastation.
Jiraiya and the others immediately felt the pressure ease.
They couldn't help but stare up at the wooden giant, shock written all over their faces.
This Wood Golem was far larger than the Summoning Beasts of the Three Great Sacred Lands—its massive form seemed to pierce the clouds themselves.
Not only Jiraiya and the others, but even Hiruzen and Tsunade back in Konoha could clearly see the towering wooden golem.
"Kitazawa's Wood Release already has the shadow of the First Hokage-sama," Hiruzen said, astonishment written across his face.
As a disciple of Tobirama, he had personally witnessed Hashirama's Wood Release.
That near-invincible power had once convinced him that no one else could ever wield such a technique.
Yet now, Kitazawa's strength was drawing closer and closer to that level.
His rate of growth was terrifying.
Tsunade couldn't help but smile at Hiruzen's words.
She might always lose her bets, but this time, she'd wagered on Kitazawa—and she'd been right.
She cast a sidelong glance at Kurenai.
Once this was over, she intended to have a talk with her.
