Darren's smile became even larger as he exclaimed,
"Thank you, boss!"
Darren could tell from the amount of mana coming off the artefact that it was at least an A Rank artefact! Finding something like this in the market was very difficult and it would also cost a lot. Even though Darren could afford it himself, that didn't mean he wasn't very grateful!
Darren put it on and started testing it out with his drones, and Jason saw how Henry looked on in slight envy as she saw how much easier it was for Darren to control his drones. Henry turned to Jason when she felt his eyes on her and she looked away with a slight huff while folding her hands! She wasn't going to ask him for anything, so he didn't need to look at her like that!
Jason chuckled at her cute reaction before he turned back to analyzing the Spidermonkey. Jason guessed that the boss was slightly weaker than the Moonlight Wolf Boss that he had fought against in his first Red Gate, but since the Moonlight Wolf Boss was far stronger than before, the Spidermonkey boss didn't stand a chance.
'So I added 76 pawns to my Legion. It's not a bad number for a Red Gate. At least this entire situation wasn't for nothing.'
With the way the Spidermonkeys were structured, Jason decided that they wouldn't be very useful for direct attacks. The current Legion was filled with heavy hitters like the Adamantine ants and Moonlight wolves that would take a lot of damage and also deal just as much. But the Spidermonkeys would need to take a more evasive approach than that since their strength wasn't that high. Jason would be adding them to various teams of his legion and they would serve as distractions.
From the fights Jason had with them, he knew that they were fast and their webs were annoying to avoid, so they would distract enemies while the other more powerful members of the Legion went in for a frontal attack.
'I should promote the boss to a Rook so it can control the others and I won't have to waste mana on all of them.'
Jason looked up at the Spidermonkey Boss's head and saw what its tab looked like.

Jason had more than forty thousand kill points, so even if he converted two thousand of them to upgrade points, there wouldn't be any problems. Jason turned to Darren and Henry who were standing at the side and spoke to them.
"Start heading for the exit. I'll meet up with you soon."
Since the boss was dead, Jason knew that the Red Gate would've opened up properly so that they could leave. Jason might have told them some of his abilities, but there was a lot he wanted to keep to himself, so he didn't want them to see him upgrading the monsters in his possession. Both Darren and Henry looked like they were about to argue for different reasons, but Jason didn't give them a chance to argue as he commanded some of the wolves to start taking them away. The wolves moved behind the pair of them and the sight of the three-meter-tall wolves looming over them imposingly was more than enough to make them hold their tongue.
Jason grinned at them and spoke kindly.
"I won't take long, guys. I just need to finish off some things."
Jason was specifically talking to Darren. Even though Jason trusted Darren a lot more than Henry, there were still some things that you had to keep to yourself, both for your own safety as well as the safety of those that you trust. Jason didn't want to burden Darren with more knowledge than he would be capable of handling. Darren seemed to understand what Jason was trying to do and his face took on a more serious look as he nodded to Jason. They were then led off before Jason turned back to the Spidermonkey boss and began the upgrade points transfer.

Jason chose yes and he watched as the points were transferred. The Spidermonkey immediately began to transform in front of Jason's eyes. It grew even more imposing than it had been with its body becoming larger and stronger, and its mouth opened slightly to show that its canines were also growing longer and sharper. There was a purple hue surrounding the monster and if the monster had only been as strong as a B Rank before, then now it could easily take on a low-level A Rank with no issues! On the Spidermonkey's left bicep, the image of a Rook piece carved itself into its skin with the number [1] inside it, and Jason nodded in satisfaction as he looked at the new changes.

Jason felt his mana also increase as the Spidermonkey's mana increased, and he went closer and patted the Spidermonkey on the bicep with a smile on his face. It was a sturdy creature with fast reflexes and with this Jason was sure that his army would be a lot more balanced.
'Now, for a name. What sort of name can I give a Spidermonkey? Maybe... Lupin? Yes, that seems like a good name.'

Jason chose yes and nodded as the tab above the Spidermonkey's head showed [Lupin] as it's name. The Spidermonkey released a low cry before it leaned forward and poked Jason on the cheek with wide, curious eyes. It tilted its head at Jaosn like a child studying something new and Jason laughed at that before ruffling the hair on the Spidermonkey's head and then turning his attention to its subordinates. A monster like this wouldn't be very good at controlling monsters of a different species, so it would be better to just give it ten monsters from the Spidermonkey subordinates.
Jason did just that and he watched as the ten he chose began to transform and become stronger just like the other Rook subordinates. Their durability increased by a hundred percent and they also gained the special ability [Stonewall] that allowed them to receive less damage from ranged attacks.

The Spidermonkey's subordinate count increased to ten and Jason nodded in acceptance before ordering all the Spidermonkeys to head back into his alternate dimension. The Moonlight Wolf Boss was still waiting on Jason's order and Jason first glanced at the tab over its head to see how far it had grown.

Fenrir didn't lose a single subordinate in the battle against the Spidermonkeys and Jason happily scratched it on the neck with a smile! That was great! At this pace, Jason wouldn't have to worry about watching over his subordinates all the time since the Commanders were so good at handling them!
The Moonlight Wolf yipped happily and Jason finally waved it away with a smile and told it to head back into the Alternate Dimension with the other wolves. Jason then called on his [Adamantine Ant Queen], Raya, and she speared with a loud screech and skittered towards Jason. She came close to Jason and immediately began rubbing her head on his own and Jason couldn't help but laugh while trying to make sure she didn't cut him with her sharp mandibles.
"Alright, alright, that's enough Raya... We need to get to the exit. Come on."
Raya quickly went low and allowed Jason to climb on her once she heard his order, and Jason got up and held on tight as Raya took off! The exit was a far distance away but with his [Eye of the King], Jason could see that Darren and Henry were already moving through the Gate. Jason ordered the wolves to disperse and return to his Alternate Dimension and Raya sped up so that they would catch up to the others.

Chapter 162: It Was A Dragon!
As Jason got closer, his eyes slowly narrowed into a glare and his face morphed into a serious look as he recalled everything that the Santos Twins had told him about the SMD Director. Jason knew that the moment the Director heard about him coming out of the gate, she would know that the Santos twins had failed, so he was going to have to go past everyone immediately and catch her before she tried to escape.

On the other side of the gate, the SMD agents and other Enforcers were in the middle of a fierce argument as they tried to make sense of what had just happened inside the gate!
"I swear I saw it! It was a dragon! A fucking dragon!"
"Dragons don't exist!"
"Are you fucking kidding me!? After everything that's happened in the last ten years, you still find it hard to believe there could be dragons!? I know what I saw!"
"I saw a wolf! A large wolf that was as black as death!"
"I saw that too! The wolf was almost twelve feet tall!"
"You people are delusional!"
"Stop shouting and let's talk like adults!"
The enforcers were trying to make the SMD agents calm down, but it was obviously not working. The students who had been taking their assessment were seated at the side and they were curiously watching the entire situation play out. The students had also seen the wolf and dragon that the SMD agents saw, but they were all finding it hard to believe that creatures like that would exist inside a Red Gate!
This was only their first time going into a Gate and they had still been trying to process the spidermonkeys they were fighting when they were suddenly assaulted by one of the most intense pressures that they had ever felt in their lives. It was almost like a physical force was trying to crush them at that moment! And when some of the students dared to look up to see what was causing the pressure, they could swear that they saw a giant dragon spreading its wings out over the forest like a nightmare!
"I think... I'm going to stay away from Gates from now on."
One of the students suddenly said something crazy. It was a female and she had a haunted look in her eyes as she glanced at the Red Gate in front of her. The other students around her turned to her in shock when they heard her say that and one of them quickly told her not to make any rash decisions! They didn't even know if what they saw was real or not! They couldn't just make decisions based on something like this!
The girl hugged her body and grit her teeth as she shouted:
"There's no way that wasn't real! It was a monster and it could have crushed all of us in a second if it wanted to! If there are monsters like that in Red Gates, then we're just signing our lives away!"
The girl's words struck all of them deeply and the other students began to think about whether what she said was right or not, but one of them at the back spoke up before their minds could wander too far.
"I don't think all the gates are like this. This Gate was just weird."
"Yeah, none of the other superhumans ever said they saw stuff like this."
"We just imagined all that, I'm sure of it!"
"There's someone coming out of the gate!"
Everyone turned to the Gate again as they saw people coming out and they were all stunned to see Jason, Darren, and Henry leaving the gate together. Jason looked around at all the people gathered there with narrowed eyes. Some of the SMD agents and scientists came around immediately! They thought that Jason and the others were killed, so they were stunned to see him leaving the Gate like this. But they all stopped in their tracks when they saw what Jason was dragging behind him. The dead bodies of the Santos twins were dropped on the ground in front of the SMD agents, and you could almost hear a pin drop in the room from how silent things were!
"Jason. What happened?"
Keith spoke up from this side as he started making his way forward, but Jason didn't bother to give him a response as he turned and began walking out of the room. Keith called out to Jason once again to try and get an answer and he followed behind Jason as they left the others in the room.
One of the Enforcers standing at the side immediately pointed a finger at Darren and spoke with narrowed eyes.
"Explain. Now."
Darren's face was sullen and downcast, and when he spoke, there was an undertone of pain in his words.
"I don't know what happened, Mr. Enforcer. One moment, we were going through the assessment, and the next, these two... they attacked us."
The Enforcer's eyes narrowed in shock.
"They attacked you?"
Darren nodded.
"Yes, they attacked us. And if not for the boss - I mean, if not for Jason saving our lives... I don't even want to think about what they would have done to us."
"But they were your instructors. Why would they attack you?"
"I think they were pedophiles—oof."
Henry elbowed Darren once he said this and she gave him a look of disbelief! What the hell was he doing!? He had to sell the story, not make it unbelievable! If he started adding stupid shit like that, then it'd be harder to make them believe it!
The Enforcer raised a brow at both of them and they both smiled awkwardly in return.

[Jason's Apartment]
Gina drove her car into the parking lot of Jason's apartment and parked it beside the building. The sun had already begun setting in the sky and Gina released a sigh of tiredness as she leaned back in her seat. She checked her phone for any messages from Jason and she frowned when she saw there were none. Gina had been wondering how Jason's assessment was going for a while now. The assessment didn't usually take this long, did it?
'I'll just send him a message.'
Gina typed out a message asking Jason if he was doing alright and telling him to text her once he was done with his assessment and she sent it to him before getting out of her car and walking to the house with her artefact held in one hand. Some of the stronger superhumans in Gina's guild had been called out to help another guild in a Red gate earlier today and Gina couldn't wait to tell Jason all about it. The raid took far longer than she thought it would and that was why she was coming back so late, but she was also happy because the guild calling on her meant that they were starting to see her as one of the most important members of the Guild!
The only downside to the whole thing was that Randy, the C Rank that had been competing with Gina for the position of Vice-captain, was starting to become insufferable. Ever since Gina beat Randy in the training exercise, Randy had made it his personal mission to always cause one problem or another for her. Whether it was by going against every suggestion she made in meetings or by telling others that she was only growing stronger because she was using artefacts to boost her power.
It was getting annoying and Gina knew that if it continued like this without anyone doing anything about it, she might start to rethink remaining in the guild.

Chapter 163: The Phantoms Attack
Randy was starting to get annoying, and Gina knew that if it continued like this without anyone doing anything about it, she might start to rethink remaining in the guild. The Panthers always treated Randy like he was precious gold because of how strong he was, so they overlooked a lot of the things he did, but she was not going to let them sabotage her career just because of one person! Gina released another tired sigh as she stepped into the building and made her way up to Jason's apartment.
On a building on the other side of the street, five figures were crouched in concentration as they watched Gina move into the house. They were all dressed in black that covered them from view, and even in the light of the setting sun, you would barely be able to make out their figures from how well they had blended into the shadows of the building.
They watched Gina until she vanished into the building, and then the man in charge raised his hand and pointed forward. All five of them melted into the shadows and began their advance.
...
Ka-Cha!
"Riyala! I'm back!"
Gina called out as she opened the door to Jason's apartment, and she smiled as she saw Riyala appear from the living room with a plate of burgers in her hand. The Moonlight Wolves were also moving with Riyala since they had to make sure she was safe, and once they saw that it was Gina they came up to her and happily nozzled her face!
Riyala put her hand out and offered Gina the plate.
"Food."
Gina thanked Riyala while grabbed the plate. Gina and Riyala had been practicing English for the past few days, and Gina could say with pride that she had helped Riyala learn a lot of the more basic words she needed to use on a daily basis. Things like food, TV, thank you, and help were easy enough to teach Riyala, but Gina wasn't a professional language instructor, so she was finding it hard to teach Riyala any of the more complicated English words. But she swore that she wouldn't give up! She would make Riyala learn to communicate if it was the last thing she did!
Gina walked into the living room and dropped her staff to the side while taking a bite from the burger, and a happy smile spread on her face when she recognized the taste from all the food Jason had made for her before! She didn't know what she did to deserve someone like him!
Gina reached out and petted the head of the large wolf that came up to nuzzle her again, and she smiled at them before she finished off the rest of the burger and began heading for the bathroom. She needed to wash up before anything else! She was freaking tired!
But Gina suddenly stopped moving as she felt something shift in the room! The room went silent as Gina turned around slowly, and she watched as the guard wolves slowly began to move around with a dangerous aura around them! It was obvious that the wolves had also felt the change that Gina felt, but Gina couldn't exactly put her finger on what that was!
Riyala stood from the couch as she also felt the pressure in the room and narrowed her eyes as she looked over at the entrance. Riyala was a far better sensor than Gina, so Riyala was able to pick out exactly what was happening faster than Gina could.
'There's foreign mana in the area.'
Riyala looked around cautiously and tried to figure out where the mana was coming from, but no matter how much she tried to pick out the direction, she just couldn't! One of the wolves came to stand close to Riyala, and a second one went to circle around Gina protectively while the third wolf started heading for the door calmly.
There was a beat of silence in the room as the only sound that could be heard was the Spanish voices coming from the soap opera on the TV, but then, the next moment, the shadow in front of Riyala bulged and a figure in black burst out from it!
DOON!
ROARRR!
The pressure in the room suddenly tripled in intensity, and the Moonlight Wolf was on the move faster than anyone else could react! The Moonlight Wolf jumped straight for the figure with a roar and slammed into him, and both of them tore through the couch and slammed against the wall!
BOOM!
A massive crater dug into the wall of the house before the wall broke into pieces and exposed the apartment to the setting sun outside! The Moonlight Wolf and phantom fell out of the house to continue the fight, and the wolf that had been going towards the door turned around and dashed straight for Gina when it saw a figure appearing from behind her! The wolf slammed into the masked figure, and the man grunted in annoyance as he was also taken away! The wolves immediately set a signal to Jason telling him what was happening before they focused as more masked men began to appear from the shadows!
The men were all dressed in the same black outfit, and they held sais in their hands! Gina felt her heart rate picking up as the masked men looked at both her and Riyala threateningly, and her eyes darted to the staff that was lying against the wall beside her. She had to reach for that staff! She needed it!
Gina hadn't been able to tell before because she wasn't a good sensor, but now that the men were right in front of her, she was able to easily measure just how powerful they were, and it was obvious that every single one of them was a high-level C Rank or higher! She was seriously outclassed!
The men in the room all seemed to tense at the exact same time, and the second Gina turned to her staff, they dashed forward!
BOOM!
There were three men who weren't being held down by Moonlight Wolves, and two of them darted straight for Riyala while the third one headed for Gina! Gina backpedaled as she felt fear fill her heart at the intense look in the assassin's eyes, but the third Moonlight Wolf dashed past Gina and immediately confronted the man!
A bright blue light lit up the entire apartment from the side, and before Gina knew what was going on, a column of fire erupted around Riyala!
PHWOOM!
BOOM!
The flames were powerful enough to rival the power of a high-level B rank, and Gina felt her eyes widen in shock when she saw this! She had no idea Riyala was this strong!? The men all scattered in order to avoid the fire, and Gina used that brief moment of distraction to immediately dash for her staff!
BOOM!
A massive impact echoed from behind her, and Gina didn't dare to turn around to see what was happening! The ground under her foot shook, and the fire in the apartment began to tear through the floor as it passed through the building quickly! Gina dived forward when she realized that her staff was also going to fall victim to the fire, and she barely managed to grab it before it was engulfed!
Riyala put her hand out towards the assassins, and her blue flames shot out to attack them! The assassins easily dodged around it, and Riyala narrowed her eyes in concentration as she saw one of them fall into the shadows created by her flames! She slashed her hand across the air and sent out a blade of fire, and the second assassin put his hand forward and revealed an eyeball in the middle of his palm which quickly absorbed the flames and all the mana that came with it!
Riyala's eyes widened in shock!

Chapter 164: A Mad Scramble
Riyala slashed her hand across the air and sent out a blade of fire, and the second assassin put his hand forward and revealed an eyeball in the middle of his palm which quickly absorbed the flames and all the mana that came with it!
Riyala's eyes widened in shock!
'He's from Rewun! They're the only world I know that can absorb mana like that! And the other man fell into the shadows? The teacher told me that one of the Primordial Races could control the shadows! But he isn't a Primordial! Wait... They aren't primordials but I think I've heard about them before! They're the phantoms! The assassins that sell their services for money! This is my fault. They're here for me!'
WOOSH!
An arrow of wind suddenly flew past Riyala and slammed into a figure on her left side, and Riyala realized in shock that she had dozed out for a moment and had almost been attacked! She turned to Gina and saw Gina holding a magic staff while narrowing her eyes in concentration!
"Focus, Riyala! They can move through the shadows!"
Gina spoke loudly but Riyala couldn't understand a word that she said! Riyala felt a surge of anguish rising from her heart as she saw the injuries on Gina's arm and the tears in her clothes! This was all her fault! If she hadn't been here then they wouldn't have attacked! She could never do anything but hurt those around her!
"Riyala!"
Gina shouted in anger when she saw Riyala's flames starting to die down and Riyala immediately gained her senses back as she saw that one of the assassins was running toward her! Another arrow of wind headed for the assassin and they had to dodge out of the way to avoid it! Riyala immediately strengthened her resolve as she reignited her fire and made it surge back to life! The assassins all retreated when the fire increased in intensity and Gina wasted no time as she sent out a blast of wind to make them retreat even further!
At the side, the Moonlight wolves were having the fight of their lives against the other three assassins. All the phantoms that had attacked were somewhere in the high C Rank to low B Rank, and all three of the moonlight wolves that Jason had left behind were Pawn Rank II, so they were all evenly matched and the only difference between them was the skill the phantoms had as professional assassins! But the phantoms were still finding it difficult to defeat the wolves because all three wolves were Rook Subordinates, so they possessed a hundred percent boost in their defenses! It didn't matter how much damage the phantoms did, the wolves just kept coming back for more!
The moonlight wolves and phantoms tore through the house in a mad scramble for power that destroyed the entire apartment! The walls and furniture didn't stand a chance against the extraordinary power of the fighters and everything in the house was destroyed as the fight progressed!
The moonlight wolves weren't smart enough to think of any complicated strategy or plan of attack, but they had been given a single order by Jason and that was to protect the girls from any harm, so they were attacking with a reckless abandon that bordered on insanity! They were so intense in their attacks that they didn't give the phantoms any chance of melting into the shadows anymore and the phantoms were forced to think of new ways to attack!
The leader of the group, Yulyv, was being attacked by one of the larger moonlight wolves and he reversed his grip on his sais and stabbed downwards on the wolf's head as it tried to take a large bite out of him! The sais stabbed deep into the wolf's skull and Yulyv was sure that it pierced into the brain, but he was shocked when the wolf didn't even stop! It raised its head and carried Yulyv along with it before swinging the both of them into another wall at the side and breaking through it!
BOOM!
Yulyv barely managed to pull his sais out of the beast and he slid to a stop few meters away before looking down to see that his sais were chipped and almost broken!
'What sort of beast is this!?'
Yulyv narrowed his eyes at the Moonlight Wolf and he realized that there was something more to them than what he was seeing. Moonlight wolves weren't normally this strong unless they were the leader of their pack, and there was no way three pack leaders would be working together like this!
'Is there a master tamer around here? And why don't they die when I stab them? They definitely aren't normal!'
They had to change their tactic!
Whistle~
Yulyv let out a complicated whistle towards the other phantoms and they acknowledged his order silently as they continued their fight! Yulyv fell back and melted into the shadow behind him as he started to make his way towards Riyala and one of the phantoms that was currently fighting Riyala broke off and changed places with Yulyv so he was facing the moonlight wolf!
Yulyv appeared from the shadow outside the blue flames surrounding Riyala and Gina and he clapped his hands and called on his mana! Yulyv was from a world of desert wanderers who utilized wind magic to harvest spice and rare metals, so the moment his mana surged out of him, a gale of wind blew through the room!
WOOSH!
The wind tore into the fire created by Riyala and Yulyv pushed his hands forward before splitting them apart! The winds followed his orders and split the fire in half and the phantoms immediately ran forward through the opening in the flames! The fires were too bright, so the phantoms couldn't use the shadows to move closer to Riyala, but they knew that they were stronger than her, so the moment they got their hands on her, this battle would be over!
ROARR!
One of the moonlight wolves suddenly appeared from the side and slammed into the phantom beside Yulyv! Yulyv turned to the side and he saw that the Moonlight Wolf had already killed one of them! He grit his teeth in anger, but he didn't bother to stop as he continued running forward to confront Riyala!
WOOSH!
BAM!
A wind-arrow struck Yulyv on the side of his head and he turned with a growl towards Gina! His poison yellow eyes glared at Gina, but Gina didn't show any fear at all as she continued releasing more attacks! Riyala joined in and began to send fireballs at Yulyv and Yulyv was forced to dodge to the side as both attacks were too much for him to take head-on!
There were only four of the assassins left and from what Yulyv had seen, the wolves were most likely immortal. The only chance he had was to grab the princess and simply run for it while leaving the others to cover his escape! Yulyv didn't think that they would face such an intense fight when they came here, but it didn't matter. The only thing Alpha cared about was them completing their mission, so even if he was the only one to return, it would still be fine!
Yulyv dashed forward with his eyes locked on Riyala! Another arrow of wind flew for him from the side and he released his mana and used it to create a wind blade to counter Gina's attack! Riyala unleashed more fire, but Yulyv could already see that it was not as strong as before, so he easily used his mana to deflect it! The strength of the flames told Yulyv that Riyala was running out of mana already!
Yulyv picked up speed even more to try and get to Riyala! He just needed to touch her once! Just once!

Yulyv's danger sense immediately buzzed as he felt multiple projectiles heading his way and he turned to see more than fifteen wind-arrows all heading for him! Yulyv was forced to stop in his tracks and he waved his hand angrily to destroy the arrows with his own wind attack! Yulyv glared at Gina angrily and his eyes trailed towards the staff that she held in one hand!
Yulyv could tell from her mana that Gina was not that strong. She was only a C Rank and she wouldn't have stood up to him on any other day! But the staff that she was holding was an artifact and Yulyv was certain that it was helping her boost her attack!
More attacks came from both Riyala and Gina and Yulyv abandoned his initial plan and fell back into the shadows behind him! Both Riyala and Gina stopped their attacks temporarily as they looked around cautiously. Everything in the house was on fire and the walls of the building had been broken and torn beyond repair. There were sirens and shouts coming from outside and Gina knew that Jason would be here soon, so they only had to hold out until –
"GINA!"
Riyala suddenly shouted from the side when she saw a shadow move behind Gina and Gina turned around with wide eyes! A spell was already on the tip of her tongue and she stretched her hand out towards the attacker, preparing to release all her magic!
Slash!
But before she could do anything, a knife slashed across her midsection and Gina felt pain travel through her whole body!

[The SMD Building]
[A Few Minutes Before The Phantoms Attacked.]
Jason walked through the halls of the SMD building with a heavy frown on his face! The agents that he passed moved out of his way quickly once they noticed his intense aura and Jason turned the corner of the hall and began heading for the door at the end.
"Jason! Jason, wait!"
Behind Jason, Keitha and a number of other agents were following along quickly to try and make him stop! Keith had grabbed Jason earlier to try and stop him, but Keith was shocked when Jason easily broke out of his grip and kept moving. It was impossible to stop Jason right now unless he stopped on his own and with how intense Jason's aura was, Keith knew that Jason was not going to stop for anything! Keith looked at where Jason was heading, and he was able to immediately recognize the door ahead of them! That was the Director's office! What the hell did Jason think he was doing!? Keith swore and tried to speak up again!
"Jason –"
Jason calmly pushed on the Director's door and the door went flying off its hinges! It slammed into the wall on the opposite side of the room and Jason calmly looked towards Millicent. Millicent was inside the room along with another SMD agent and she was staring at her broken door with wide, disbelieving eyes! Her eyes trailed from the door over to the person who had broken it and she frowned.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Jason calmly walked into the director's office and stood opposite her before asking.
"Did you really think that those two would be capable of killing me?"
The Director's brow furrowed for a moment before she suddenly recalled that today was the assessment and she had sent the twins to make sure that Jason didn't make it out of the Red Gate! The mere fact that Jason was standing in front of her instead of the twins could only mean one thing! They had failed!
'Those fools!'
The director kept her eyes locked on Jason as she slowly began to stand while speaking.
"I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about. And barging into the room of the Director of the SMD is not something a mere superhuman has a right to do–"
Jason suddenly flashed across the room faster than anyone could follow and grabbed the director by the neck! Jason slammed her against the wall and she cried out in pain as she felt his powerful grip! How in the world is he so strong!? Wasn't he just an A Rank a few days ago!?
Jason seethed in her face.
"Your next words are going to determine if I kill you right now or not. Who ordered you to have me killed?"
"W-What...?"
Millicent stammered out in shock, and Jason's hand immediately tightened!
"Grk!"
Millicent held onto Jason's hand with a terrified expression on her face! Jason's hand was like an iron clamp blocking her windpipe and she couldn't even draw in any breath at all! What sort of power was this!? He was fucking strong! Millicent tried to speak, but she could only release a strangled cry as Jason's grip tightened even more! Millicent knew that any more pressure than this would break her throat!
Millicent dared to look into Jason's eyes and she immediately felt her heart rate spike when she saw the cold emptiness in there! There was no emotion at all and she knew right then that Jason would feel nothing about killing her!
"Jason. This isn't how we do things. Let her go."
A hand grabbed Jason from behind and tried to drag him back and Jason turned sharply to give Keith a hard look! Keith was frowning angrily as he pointed at Millicent!
"If you kill her now, then you'll be the criminal! She hasn't been convicted by a court, so you could be choking an innocent person for all you know! Let her confess at least!"
"Innocent?"
Jason seethed in disbelief and Keith looked away with gritted teeth! Keith knew that it was foolish to think that Millicent wasn't guilty of all this. There was no way she wasn't the one that made the twins go after Jason! But that was no reason for them to act like barbarians! They were already preparing a case against her, so they couldn't just take the law into their own hands!
Outside the door, there was already a crowd forming as many people who had seen Jason heading for Millicent's office gathered around. They all looked into the room with shocked gazes and no one could even dare to try and get involved since they had no idea what was going on!
"Move out of the way! Move!"
A voice shouted from behind the gathered agents and most of them moved out of the way immediately when they saw who it was! Liam, the correspondent in charge of all superhuman-related matters, forced his way through the crowd and shoved the last person standing at the door away so that he could get a look at what was going on inside!
Jason was still holding Millicent by the neck with Keith standing at the side and giving Jason a hard look, and Liam called out.
"Jason! What the hell are you doing!?"
Jason turned to glance at Liam before he turned away in disinterest and Liam immediately headed into the room with a folder in his hand!
"Look, Jason, you need to let her go right now. There's an Enforcers convoy on their way here to take her away. I already filed a legal case against her and they'll handle things. You can't kill her."
Jason grit his teeth in annoyance as he looked into the reddening eyes of Millicent! Millicent was already starting to turn purple from the lack of air and Jason had never wanted to kill anyone as much as he did at that moment! But Jason wasn't going to kill her. Jason wanted to know who it was that was behind her. The twins weren't able to give him much since they weren't told everything, so this was his only chance to figure out who wanted him dead.

Liam tried to make Jason let Millicent go, but Jason's eyes narrowed.
"She's not going anywhere until she answers my fucking question."
Millicent groaned while trying to pry Jason's hand off her neck!
"Cough! Cough! I... I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Like hell you don't. I don't think you understand how badly I want to rip you apart right now. Is this secret really worth your life?"
Jason's hands tightened again, and Millicent cried out in agony as she felt something crack in her neck! At that moment, Jason was just trying to use intimidation to make Millicent tell him what he wanted to know. Jason knew that he couldn't kill her while they were outside a gate like this. If they were in a Gate, then Jasn wouldn't have to worry about repercussions, but now that they were outside, killing her would not only make Jason a criminal in the eyes of the law, but it would also make the news reach his mother. Mira would have a fucking heart attack if she heard that Jason killed someone!
At his side, Liam frowned while racking his brain for a solution to this problem! He was the one in charge of superhuman relations, so if anything happened here, then it would be pinned on him!
"Jason, don't kill her! For fuck's sake, Jason, look at me!"
Jason turned to Liam with a cold stare, and Liam spoke quickly to try and calm Jason down.
"There are other ways to make her talk. The Enforcers—they have lie detectors and mindrunners. They can get inside her head and find out all the information you want to know. But that is only after she has been declared guilty by the court! Jason, look, I know you're angry. I'd be angry too if someone tried to kill me, but this isn't how things are meant to be done. I swear to you on my honor, I'll bring you the information you need. Just let her go."
Jason took a deep breath while glancing back at Keith. Keith might not be on Jason's side, but Jason trusted Keith's morality, and Jason knew that Keith would not lie to him in this situation. Keith nodded seriously to his brother's words and told Jason that his brother was right, and Jason finally released a calm huff.
Jason looked angry on the outside, but he was calm enough on the inside to accept Liam's words as the best course of action. Jason clicked his tongue in irritation before tossing Millicent aside and she landed on the ground in a rough heap! She began coughing to try and get some breath into her lungs, and both Liam and Keith released a collective sigh of relief once they saw the situation calming down!
Liam could sense from the amount of mana rolling off Jason right now that Jason was far stronger than he had been when they last met! Jason was definitely an S-rank now, so there was no way they would be able to stop him if he actually wanted to kill Millicent! They would have had to call in a commander from the Enforcers and that would have led to a fight that might wipe this entire city block off the map! There was a reason why the Enforcers were allowed to use lethal force against Stroner superhuman! It was better to kill a single rouge superhuman in cold blood than to allow them to cause billions of dollars in damage while rampaging around the city.
Jason's voice drew Liam's attention back to him.
"I'll hold you to your word, Liam. After saying all that, it'll be disappointing if you don't do as you promised."
Jason was looking at Liam with a heavy stare, and Liam could feel intense pressure coming from Jason at that moment. Liam gave Jason a single nod in response before he called on some agents to take Millicent away! The agents were still shocked by everything that was happening, and Liam had to shout at two of them to get them to snap out of their shock and answer him! The agents came forward and grabbed Millicent, and Millicent struggled in their grip as she pushed them off.
"Get off me! What the fuck is this!? You think you can just arrest me! I'm the director of the SMD! You work for me!"
Liam raised the file he was holding towards her, and Millicent frowned at it angrily!
"I filed a legal complaint with the Enforcers about your misuse of power in the recent assessment. You're being put on trial, and you will be court-martialed. So no, you aren't the director. Not anymore. Take her away."
Liam said the last words to the agents, and they nodded as they began taking her out of the office. Millicent still tried to fight back, but the agents ignored her protests since they now knew that Liam had legal backing for her arrest. Liam turned back to Jason and spoke.
"The Enforcers would also like a word with you since you were the one targeted. They'll be here soon, so we should head downstairs."
Jason ran a hand through his hair with a calm sigh and started to walk out of the room as well. Everyone moved out of the way to make space for him, and Liam followed after Jason with Keith trailing behind them.
Keith looked around at all the agents that were gathered there and made sure that none of them had their phones out at that moment. Keith didn't want any of this to get out to the public, so they had to make sure there were no recordings. Once he was sure that none of them were stupid enough to take a video, he sped up to catch his brother and Jason as they walked into the elevator.
The three men were silent as the elevator went down, and Keith glanced at Jason as he leaned back against the wall with his hands folded. There were many questions that Keith still needed answered, but he decided that it would be better to wait and see how things progressed before asking anything. The past few hours had been far too tense, and everyone needed to calm down before they started talking about these things again.
But suddenly, the tension in the elevator increased as Jason perked up! Jason's eyes narrowed, and both Keith and Liam turned to him curiously.
"Jason. What happened?"
Keith spoke up with a frown, but Jason didn't answer for a few seconds. Jason had just gotten a message from one of his subordinates that there was a foreign mana signature close to his house! The subordinates had not seen what was responsible for it yet, but the fact that there was something unknown close by was enough to make Jason anxious!
'I have to get back!'
This thought passed through Jason's mind as a feeling of anxiety filled his heart and he turned to Keith and spoke quickly!
"I won't be able to do the meeting today. My girlfriend is in trouble, so I need to go home."
Liam frowned.
"What...?"

The elevator door opened to the ground floor, and Jason didn't bother to wait or explain anything as he started making his way to the exit! Liam called out to Jason from behind as he tried to get him to stop! They needed to talk to the Enforcers before Jason went anywhere! But Keith had a more understanding look on his face as he allowed Jason to walk away. Keith had seen the seriousness in Jason's eyes and he knew that Jason was not playing around! Keith also had a girlfriend, so he knew that he would have the same look if he ever heard that she was in trouble!
But before they could go far, the door leading to the SMD building opened and three people walked in. Two of them were lieutenants from the Superhuman Enforcers, but the third person was someone who made every single person in the room pause in shock!
Commander Agiel.
The commander entered the SMD building with her hands in her pockets and a hard look in her eyes. She was wearing her Enforcers coat over her shoulders like a cape, and it seemed like the entire room ground to a halt the moment she appeared. Keith let out a curse from behind Jason, and Liam felt shock pass through his body once he set eyes on Commander Agiel! What the hell was she doing here!? The Enforcers said they were only sending lieutenants, so what the fuck would they send a commander!?

Liam felt shock pass through his body once he set eyes on Commander Agiel! What the hell was she doing here!? The Enforcers said they were only sending lieutenants, so what the fuck would they send a commander!?
Liam was the one who told the Enforcers to come here, but he didn't think that they would send such a high-profile officer for a case like this! They weren't prepared to deal with someone of her level!
Commander Agiel's eyes scanned over the crowd of agents at the SMD lobby before her gaze finally trailed towards Jason. The moment their eyes met, there was a silent spark that traveled from Jason straight toward Agiel. Her eyes widened slightly and she felt a strange emotion swelling from her heart and shooting toward him! It was like a sleeping beast that had been hiding away in Agiel's heart all this time finally began to crack it's eys open and wake up! Jason narrowed his eyes at Agiel, and Agiel knew at that moment that Jason had also felt the spark!
Agiel's mouth began to split into a mad smile as she pulled her hands out of her pocket and threw off her jacket. Agiel didn't even need to check anymore. There was no doubt in her mind about it. This man was no sheep! Jason was just like her! A predator!
"Jason Marc. I've been looking forward to meeting you for some time now. You seem to be in a hurry—"
"Get the fuck out of my way."
Jason cut Agiel off and Agiel's eyes narrowed even though her smile widened.
"Now, that wasn't very nice, was it? I've been informed that you're involved in a possible murder case. And I've been asked to ensure you don't go anywhere until we get to the bottom of this."
Jason grit his teeth in annoyance as Agiel moved to stand in his way, and he immediately activates his [Eye of the King] and looked through his subordinates' eyes to see what was happening back at his apartment. There was a flash of panic in his gaze as he saw some figures in black appearing through the shadows, and Jason knew that he had to get home immediately!
Jason's mana surged through his body like a tidal wave and Agiel's smile grew even wider as her mana also began to surge! The two S Ranks drowned the entire building in their power, and the agents and Enforcers all felt their hearts racing as they began taking steps away from them! The ground under their feet began to shake and the entire building groaned from the strain!
Keith immediately came forward to try and defuse the conflict before it got even worse!
"Commander! Jason isn't trying to run away. I think there's a real issue happening!"
Keith knew that he would receive backlash for what he was doing, but he had seen the serious look in Jason's eyes and he knew that Jason was not playing around right now. There were very few things that would make Keith go against his superiors, and family was one of them. If Jason was anything like Keith, then Keith knew that Jason would also go to any lengths for his family.
Agiel hummed.
"What are you talking about, Keith? I'm not holding him back, am I? I have no intention of holding him back. But if he wants to leave, then he'll have to get past me."
Agiel still had that smile on her face, and Keith cursed as he knew there was no convincing her right now! Agiel was a battle maniac that they always tried to keep in check, but when she found someone she really wanted to fight, there was almost no way to stop her!
Behind Keith, Jason's hand tightened into a fist in anger as he realized that there was no way to convince this woman, and he clicked his tongue as he finally came to a decision.
"To hell with all this. Ragnar!"
There was a single beat of silence as Jason suddenly shouted out a name, and in the next moment, the SMD building rumbled!
BOOOM!
ROARRRRRR!!!
Ragnar appeared from within Jason's Alternate Dimension in all his glory, and his wings tore through the building as he spread them wide! Ragnar's head completely destroyed the wall in front of it and every swing of its tail destroyed various pillars behind it! Just his appearance alone was enough to make the SMD building begin to come down!
"Holy shit!"
"It's a dragon! A dragon!"
The agents in the building all fell back to their asses in shock the moment they saw the large dragon towering over them! Every single person could only stare with wide-eyed awe as they saw the majestic being spread its large wings past the building walls, and Jason used that brief moment when they were distracted to jump up to Ragnar's neck!
"Home! Now!"
Ragnar released another roar at Jason's command and charged forward through the wall of the SMD building! It beat its wings and created a large gale wind around it as it prepared to take off, but a voice suddenly shouted from behind them!
"Jason Marc!"
Jason glanced back and saw that Agiel was running out of the building with a bloodthirsty grin on her face! She was making a mad dash toward Jason and Jason decided that he didn't have time for this! Jason was about to tell Ragnar to smack her away with its tail, but he was shocked when he saw Keith appear in front of Agiel with a determined look on his face.
Agiel stopped in her tracks as she looked into Keith's determined eyes and her brow rose in a coy gesture.
"What's the meaning of this, Keith? I would think that you of all people would know that we can't allow Jason to do whatever he wants."
Keith grit his teeth as he felt her words strike him deep. It was true that Keith was one of the most law-abiding people out there and on any other day, he would have tried to stop Jason as well. But there was something about Jason's expression from earlier that told Keith this was more than just some impulsive act. Keith felt in his heart that he was meant to be on Jason's side in this situation. And sometimes, you need to follow your heart more than your mind.
"I can't let you stop him, Commander. I'll explain everything to you. So please, just stand down."
Agiel tilted her head to one side emotionlessly, and the mana surrounding her body suddenly burst out in a violent wave. Did the Lieutenant just tell his commanding officer to stand down?
"It seems you've really grown a large pair of balls since the last time I met you, Keith!"
Jason saw the confrontation happening behind him and he knew without a doubt that Keith didn't stand a chance against Agiel on his own, so Jason called on two more of his subordinates!
"Raya! Fenrir! Get out here!"
The two subordinates charged out from the Alternate Dimension and began to head towards Keith to act as support, and Jason sent a silent thanks to Keith before he commanded Ragnar to take off! Ragnar blasted off the ground and into the air faster than anyone could stop it, and Agiel's expression became even more intense as she asked Keith one final time.
"Are you really willing to risk your life for this decision of yours, Keith?"
Keith grit his teeth and swallowed desperately before he nodded—
TWOOM!
BOOM!
It was an instantaneous thing! At one moment, Keith was still in the process of agreeing to his commander's words, and at the next moment, an unbelievable shockwave slammed into Keith's body and he was flying through the air! Keith flipped through the air multiple times and slammed into the wall of a building more than five hundred meters away and he coughed in pain as he opened his eyes! Only for his eyes to widen in shock as he saw Commander Agiel flying toward him with her hands pulled back! Fuck!
Keith put both hands up and called upon all the mana he had for protection as he braced for impact! But just before the hit could land, a force slammed into Commander Agiel from the side!

Commander Agiel flew toward Keith, with her hands pulled back and Keith cursed!
'Fuck!'
Keith put both hands up and called on all the mana he had as he braced for impact! But just before the hit could land, a force slammed into Commander Agiel from the side!
BOOM!
Commander Agiel was body-slammed by Raya at full speed and she catapulted away from Keith like a rocket! Keith didn't even know when he released a harsh breath of relief while breathing heavily! Commander Agiel's punch would have sent Keith straight to the hospital! The giant ant slammed into Agiel and took her toward the next building to give Keith some space to recover and Keith released another grunt as he pulled himself free from the crater and tried to get a look at what was happening!
Raya and Agiel slammed into a building a few hundred meters away, and Keith glanced down to see the giant wolf, Fenrir, running toward them quickly! The building that Agiel was in shuddered once from a sudden impact before another shockwave sent Raya flying out from the building!
Keith jumped off the building wall and intercepted Raya before she could fly too far! He caught her with grit teeth and held on tight as the both of them fell to the ground!
Boom!
The giant ant let out a screech in anger as it skittered on its feet after they landed and it turned to nudge Keith with its mandibles as thanks. Keith nodded to the ant and stood up while taking in harsh breaths! He looked up at where Agiel had been and he saw her walking out from the large hole in the building with narrowed eyes. Her gloves had come off and the space around her hands seemed to pulse with power as she glared them down!
"Move! Move, we need to get out of here now!"
"The commander is about to fight! If you don't want to become collateral damage, then get out of here now!"
"Evacuate everyone in the area and form a perimeter!"
Enforcers on the ground were evacuating citizens as quickly as possible! Once they saw Agiel getting serious, they knew that there was no way there wouldn't be collateral damage and they prioritized evacuating regular humans over everything else!
Keith grit his teeth as he shouted up at the commander!
"Commander, we can talk about this! You're being unreasonable!"
Keith hated the fact that the commander was so quick to violence! If they simply spoke about things, then he would be able to explain why he was standing in her way like this! But Agiel didn't even look like she heard what he said! Agiel kept her eyes locked on Keith with an apathetic look on her face and the mana around her body seemed to surge to new life!
ROARRR!!
Suddenly, a loud roar came from the side as Fenrir appeared through an adjacent building! He jumped at Agiel with all his strength as he tried to tear into her, but Agiel didn't even need to move! Agiel crouched into a fighting stance and her left hand came up in a parry that struck Fenrir right at the base of his jaw! Fenrir's entire momentum shot upwards as he felt intense pain from that hit and Agiel's right hand immediately pulsed with power as she slammed it into Fenrir's stomach!
TWOOM!
A loud sonic boom echoed through the region as Agiel's Gift broke through the sound barrier ten times in one second, and in the next moment, a sonic wave shot out from her hand and struck Fenrir right in the stomach!
BOOM!
Fenrir shot back like a bullet and flew through the air for more than ten kilometers [6mi]! He slammed through five buildings before bouncing into the ground like a basketball and finally smashing into the concrete hard enough to leave a massive crater! The wolf let out a strangled cry of pain and if you looked close enough, you would see that there was a large dent where Agiel had hit it!
Fenrir was a Rook class subordinate with five times its normal defenses and enough power to rival the Eldritch Rank Boss of an Orange Gate! But that meant nothing as far as Agiel was concerned! Agiel was an S Rank who was only a step away from entering the realm of the SS Ranks! An Eldritch Rank that was only strong enough to rival an A Rank superhuman didn't stand a chance against her! If not for the fact that Fenrir's defenses were so high, then there was no doubt that Agiel would have torn a hole right through its stomach!
Keith turned away from where Fenrir was lying and faced Agiel once more. Agiel was still standing above them and looking down impassively, but now her hair had fallen out from where she had tied it and it flowed in the harsh winds blowing through the city.
Agiel took a step off the edge of the building and her feet landed on a platform of air that kept her elevated! Agiel then took off into a run as she created more platforms in front of her and Keith cursed as he called on all the sand around him and slammed his hands together to form a large shield to protect him and Raya! The shield solidified into a material a hundred times more dense than steel and Keith knew it would not be enough! Keith called more and more sand as he formed three more shields in front of him and he leaned all his weight against the sand shield as Agiel flew into the wall with a flying knee!
BOOOM!!
"NGH!"
Keith grunted in exertion as he felt an impossible force drive him back and he cursed as a massive crack tore through his shield! Just how strong is this woman!? Raya charged to the side and raced forward to confront Agiel once more and Agiel grabbed Raya by the mandibles before turning around and slamming her into the sand shield!
BOOM!
Keith was pushed even further back by the impact and Agiel quickly dashed forward and slammed her hand against Raya's body!
TWOOM!
A sonic wave that was nearly two times stronger than what Agiel used against Fenrir erupted in the space between Agiel's palm and Raya's body, and this time neither Raya nor Keith stood a chance as they were both picked off the ground by the sonic blast and catapulted into a building far away!
BOOM!
Agiel's eyes narrowed in concentration, but her bloodthirsty grin never dimmed as she crouched and then shot after Keith once again!

[With Jason]
An unbelievable sight was currently taking place in the sky above the city of Riverdale! The late evening sun had already set in the sky, leaving the city cast in a darkened shade of orange and yellow light. But the city streets were still alive with activity as people went home from work and youths moved about from one bar or club to another.
But then a massive shadow moved across the air, and the people on the ground stopped whatever they were doing! Men, women, and children paused in their tracks, people parked their cars and some began filing out of various buildings and leaning out windows as they looked up into the air, and in all their minds, there was only one thought that repeated unconsciously:
'Am I dreaming?'
Because if this wasn't a dream, then no one would be capable of forming the words to explain what they were seeing moving through the air! A giant shadow passed over the buildings at a rapid pace as Ragnar raced forward to Jason's apartment, and one of the children raised his hand and shouted at the top of his lungs!
"Mummy! It's a dragon!"
It was like those words immediately spurred everyone else into activity as they realized that what they were seeing was actually real! They weren't dreaming all this! There really was a dragon flying right over their heads!

The crowd was starting to get more rowdy as time passed and many of the civilians got into their cars and began to follow after the dragon as it raced for the less developed side of the city! On the dragon's back, Jason had a look of pure fury on his face as he urged Ragnar to go faster! Jason's vision was torn between what was in front of him and the images he was getting from the wolves back in his house. The wolves had killed one of the five assassins that appeared and they were now taking on the others, but Gina and Riyala were also fighting against one of the assassins who looked very dangerous!
Jason suddenly had to refocus on the space in front of him as he gave Ragnar directions to take for the quickest route back to the house! Ragnar roared as he flapped his wings faster to increase his speed and Jason narrowed his eyes as he started to recognize the area that they were in! It was a few kilometers away from his house and they would reach it in a few seconds! In the distance, a large plume of smoke was rising from where Jason's apartment was, and Jason could see firefighters evacuating a lot of people from the area around the building!
Jason slowly got up from Ragnar's back and crouched with his hand on Ragnar's neck as they got closer and once Jason was certain that they were in the right position, he ordered Ragnar to descend! Ragnar turned downwards and shot towards the ground quickly, but Jason didn't wait for Ragnar to reach the ground. Instead, Jason let go of Ragnar's neck immediately and inclined his body downwards before kicking off and shooting down even faster!
Jason shot toward his apartment like a rocket and slammed into the ground with enough force to leave a massive crater behind before he charged forward and broke through the apartment wall!
"Gina!"
Jason shouted loudly while looking around and he felt his entire body freeze when he saw what was happening. Three men in black clothes were standing around the house and facing off against Jason's wolves. The man the wolved had killed was lying in a pool of blood at one side. And in the middle of the room, Riyala was kneeling over Gina's motionless body with tears in her eyes. Riyala's face was squeezed in anguish and the moment she saw Jason, she let out a strangled cry!
"J-Jason! I don't know what happened! The man cut her and she just fell! I can't heal her!"
The wound that Gina had received across her stomach had already been closed by Riyala's healing magic, but Riyala could tell that Gina was not yet healed. There was something else inside Gina that was killing her and no matter how much Riyala tried to use her magic to heal her, it was impossible for her to fix it!
Riyala's healing flames were a unique healing ability that worked only on internal and external wounds. Nonphysical things like diseases or poisons were impossible for her to reach. So at that moment, there was really nothing that she could do for Gina. Riyala cried out again when she sent her blue flames over Gina's body and tried to heal her, but Gina did not stir and her skin only grew paler as her heartbeat began to weaken.
The noise around the room was like static in Jason's ears. There was no sound getting through to him and he could almost feel the world falling to pieces around him.
At the side, one of the Phantoms cursed as he saw Jason appear and he dashed away from the wolf that was confronting him and towards Jason! He was close enough to Jason that he was sure he would be able to at least scratch him with his poison blade before Jason could react! The man lashed out with his blade, and Jason's adamantine-coated arm reached out and grabbed the man before he could stab him! Jason twisted his arm and the man let out a cry as his arm broke in half! Jason then grabbed the man's hair with his other hand and pulled!
"W-Wait—"
SQUELCH!
The man's head tore straight off from his body and blood sprayed across the floor!

Multiple notifications appeared in Jason's system tabs, but Jason ignored them as he mentally ordered the men to tell him what happened to Gina and how he could fix it!
In a split second, Jason got a full breakdown of what had happened. He understood who the men were, the sort of weapons they used for battle, as well as the power that they held. Jason felt a deep, vengeful anger rising from his heart the longer he heard the men talking. Everything that they said fueled the hatred that he had for every single one of the phantoms and when Jason rose his head to glare at the leader, Yulyv, the man flinched back at the sheer fury present in those eyes!
Yulyv was dedicated to finishing his mission and his desire to impress Alpha would have made him remain here no matter what happened, but after seeing Jason kill one of the phantoms so easily and then resurrect that phantom's dead body without any effort, Yulyv knew that this was one battle that he was not going to win! Yulyv immediately gave out a coded order to the other phantoms for them to retreat and all three of them fell into the shadows to run away!
'Kill them.'
Jason gave out a single order and he felt a dip in his mana as both of the phantoms, as well as one of the Moonlight wolves, fell into the shadow and chased after the fleeing phantoms!
Once they were gone, Jason walked over to Gina's body and Riyala moved back with a pained expression to give Jason some space. There were still tears falling down Riyala's cheeks and Jason ignored her as he held Gina softly. Jason listened desperately for her heartbeat and he felt even more despair when he could barely hear it! It was so slow!
'Can you do anything for her?'
Jason immediately sent a message to the system! The system was the largest archive of knowledge in the Primordial Expanse and Jason was sure that it would know what was wrong with Gina! There was no way it wouldn't have a way to heal her!
The system immediately sent a response.

[The subject has been poisoned by Hunter Toxin, a rare poison developed and used by members of the Raksha race of demons during their expeditions against other worlds. It is a nerve toxin that is fatal to any mana-wielding being below the S Rank. It kills the victims by slowing down their hearts and cutting off signals between their brain and the rest of their body. It can only be cured using the saliva of a Bluefin snowfish from the Demonworld of the Raksha.]
Jason felt hope rise in his heart once he read that! There was a cure! That means he could cure Gina!
"How can I get the cure?"
[The system does not advise the user to seek out the cure. The user is not at a power level sufficient enough to handle this task—]
"Just fucking tell me how I can get it!"
Jason actually shouted this time, and Riyala stumbled back and fell to her behind in fear! Jason glared at the space in front of him with eyes that were reddened from pure rage, and the system erased its previous tab and brought up a new one.
[The Bluefin Snowfish can only be found on Raksha. It is nearly five hundred Dimensional Leaps away from Earth, and it will take approximately [1] month to make the journey. By the time the user finds the Snowfish, there will be no use for it as the subject would already be dead.]
Jason grit his teeth in anger, and he felt a mad cry threatening to rise from inside him! But he clenched his teeth tightly enough to force his throat closed and focused all his energy on this single moment! Jason's mind began to run at an absurd speed as he tried to come up with a solution!
'The phantoms were the ones that poisoned her. They would have a cure, right? The men who came here didn't have a cure with them, but I'm sure the leader will at least have one dose.'
[The system advises the user to please listen. The subject does not have much time left. The Hunter's Toxin kills in five minutes, and the trip to the phantoms' hideout will take at least thirty minutes. It is pointless to try and find a cure.]
'So what the fuck do you want me to do!? Stop telling me what I can't do and tell me what I can do for fuck's sake!'
Jason could no longer hold in the anger in his heart! His head fell until his hair covered his eyes, and he stared at the pale face of his lover. Why wasn't he here when they attacked? Why was he so fixated on trying to do things the right way at the SMD building? If he had just ignored everyone and left, then would he have been able to save her? He felt so fucking useless!

Jason perked up once the system sent him this message, and Jason narrowed his eyes as he spoke.
'Tell me."'
[In the arid world of Arizon, three Dimensional Leaps away from Earth, a special creature known as a 'Lich' exists. This creature stands at the border between the realm of the dead and the living, and its soul has been soaked in the river of the afterlife. If the user is capable of acquiring the Magic Crystal from the heart of this creature, and combines it with the Artefact known as [Banshee's Tears], the user will be able to create the Elixir of Life—a special elixir that can bring the dead back to life.]
Jason nodded slowly. Okay, so it was just a matter of killing more monsters. It was just about getting more power. Jason didn't care if he had to kill a million creatures. All he knew was that he was going to cure Gina no matter what.
'But... does that mean I just have to let her die?'
Jason stared down at Gina's pale face again as this thought crossed his mind. Gina grimaced in pain from the poison coursing through her, and Jason grit his teeth again! He didn't know if he could watch her die like this!
[No, the user cannot let the subject die from the poison.]
'What? But you said...'
[The system stated that the Elixir of Life can bring a subject back from the dead, but there is a reason why it is not widely sought out by every being in the Primordial Expanse. In order for the Elixir to work, the subject's soul must not have left their body and gone into the River of the Afterlife. And in order to ensure this, the subject must have either died less than a minute ago, or their soul must still be present within their body. The method for ensuring a creature's soul remains within its body after death is unique only to the user.]
As the system's message slowly came into view, Jason's eyes could only grow wider and wider in shock. Jason was able to immediately decipher what the system wanted him to do, and for a long second, Jason was in too much disbelief to even speak. Jason let out a huff through gritted teeth before he growled out.
"Are you actually telling me that I have to kill her with my own hands?"
[Yes. The Necromancer System works by cutting the connection a soul has with the River of the Afterlife and creating a new connection between that soul and the user. This ensures that the soul remains within the subject's body until the user is ready to resurrect that soul. However, this method will only work if the user or one of the user's subordinates is responsible for the death of the subject. If the subject dies from the poison, then the user will not be able to save their soul.]
Jason's heart grew cold and hollow. It felt like a hot metal rod had stuck itself into his chest and torn straight through his heart before leaving nothing but a hole in its place! His hand around Gina's shoulder became numb, and it was almost like a thousand needles were piercing through his skin. A notification came from Jason's system that informed him about the death of the phantoms that had run away, but Jason didn't even have the presence of mind to acknowledge it! It was almost like he was lost in his own head!
If there was one thing that had never crossed Jason's mind in his entire life, it was the thought of Gina leaving him. Gina had always been there right beside him from the start. She was his best friend before he even knew what it meant to have a friend, and he loved her before he knew what the word meant. And now, Jason was faced with an impossible situation. He had to take the life of the woman he loved with his own hands, or lose her forever.
"Fuck!"
Jason grit his teeth as he tried to come to terms with the entire situation as quickly as possible, but his eyes snapped open again when he felt a hand touch his cheek softly. Jason looked down into Gina's eyes and he saw her giving him a tired smile. She ran her fingers over his cheek and she spoke in a low voice.
"You look so sad."
Jason looked away for a moment and closed his eyes tightly before he finally turned back and spoke to Gina.
"Don't worry, Gina. I'll fix this. I promise. I'm not going to let you die. You won't leave me."
Gina's smile became even sadder, and a line of blood ran down the side of her mouth as she struggled to let out her next words.
"You shouldn't blame yourself, Jason. Even if... I die. I want you to be happy without me. I want to see you smile for—"
"No."
Jason cut Gina off immediately.

"You shouldn't blame yourself, Jason. Even if... I die. I want you to be happy without me. I want to see you smile for –"
"No."
Jason cut Gina off with a hard look on his face. He took Gina's hand in his own and stared her right in the eye with more intensity than Gina had ever seen before! Jason's next words shook her to the core.
"I don't care about being happy and I don't give a fuck about smiling. Who cares about being happy if you're not there to be happy with me? What I want is for you to believe in me right now, Gina. Believe that I can tear through the very fabric of immortality to bring you back to me. Hold onto the hope that the man you love is capable of doing this. That is what I want to hear from you."
Gina's face was cast in a look of pure shock as she looked into Jason's eyes. There was no doubt present in there at all and Gina could tell that Jason truly believed that he could do exactly what he said. Gina felt a desperate emotion bubble up from inside her and it didn't take long before her face slowly began to squeeze in desperation as tears gathered in her eyes! Jason was right! Gina didn't want to die! She didn't want to be away from Jason! She didn't want to look at Jason being happy from somewhere else! She wanted to be here with him and enjoy every moment of that happiness together! She wanted to be with him!
"Please... sniff~ Please save me, Jason. I believe you can do it. I believe in you."
Those words alone lit a fire in Jason's heart that sparked something unbelievable! It was like Gina's belief was the only thing he needed to have in order for him to keep moving forward without any hesitation! And once he had that, Jason knew without a doubt that he could save his lover!
Jason nodded his head slowly as the [Moonlight Wolf's Tooth] appeared in his right hand. He gently lay Gina on the floor and his eyes hardened like steel as he ran a hand over Gina's cheeks. Gina's eyes were slowly closing already, and Jason put his hand over her eyes before leaning forward and taking her lips in his own for a heated kiss. The kiss tasted like blood and tears, and Gina could barely move her lips to kiss him back, but later in life, Jason would describe it as the single greatest kiss he had ever received.
The knife in Jason's hand came down!
SQUELCH!
"AHHH!"
Riyala shouted in shock and horror from the side as she saw Jason stab Gina through the heart! She scrambled backward immediately and she could only watch with wide eyes as Gina jolted with a pained gasp! Jason kept their lips locked together as he swallowed Gina's pained gasp, and even though Gina's eyes widened from the pain, Jason didn't remove his hand from over her eyes since he didn't want to watch his lover's lights go out!! Jason twisted the knife and dug it even deeper into Gina to make sure that she died from the wound before the poison could take her and it only took a few seconds before a new notification popped up from the system tab.

Jason finally relaxed the hand covering Gina's eyes and he leaned back and sat on his knees. His eyes were hollow pools of black that stared out into the space in front of him with a chilling emptiness and his face was set into a look of emotionlessness that would put fear into anyone that saw him. Jason looked at Gina's face and saw the peaceful lifelessness there and he almost felt this delicate control slip. But he forced it to stay in place as he took the knife and dragged it out from Gina's chest with another wet 'squelch'.
Jason turned around slowly to look at Riyala and Riyala let out a strangled cry of terror at the look she saw on his face. She swallowed as she attempted to move away from Jason, but she couldn't even find the strength to blink from the intense pressure she was feeling.
"Please heal her."
Those were Jason's only words and Riyala swallowed again as she quickly obeyed! Riyala had no idea why Jason did what he did. Killing the person you loved was the last thing Riyala would have ever expected from someone like Jason! But that was also the reason why Riyala knew that there was more to things than what she was seeing. Jason had come to a decision after he and Gina's conversation and Riyala knew that this was not how things would end. Jason had a plan.
Riyala put her hand on Gina's chest and her mana surged to life as blue flames surrounded her body. The blue flames traveled from Riyala's body and covered Gina in its light before they began to gather around the wound in Gina's chest.
Jason watched calmly as the wound slowly began to knit back together. Muscles and tendons and bones formed into what they had been before and it didn't even take ten seconds before the wound had vanished and left only clear skin in its place. Once Riyala was done, she quickly moved away from Gina to give Jason space again and Jason closed his eyes and took in one last shuddering sigh before he opened his Alternate Dimension and allowed Gina's body to fall inside.
The Alternate Dimension was a space outside of time, so Jason knew that Gina's body would remain in the condition that it had entered until he was ready to bring her back to life. The moment Gina's body appeared in the Alternate Dimension, all the subordinates that were inside the Dimension began to move towards her body. All of Jason's subordinates had sensed their King's desire to protect this woman, and they all responded with the same desire as they approached her. They formed a tight circle around the body of their King's lover before they slowly began to sit and lie down around her body protectively.
"Hello! Is anybody still in here!? We need to evacuate!"
"Is anyone in there!? Shout if you need any help!"
Various voices rang out from outside the building as the sound of sirens and firetrucks became louder. The building walls had been broken and there was a large amount of debris blocking the entrance into the building, so the firemen had to scale the large rocks and move some of the debris out of the way just to get into the house. But the flames dancing around the building and the intense smoke blocked them from being able to get in easily!
Jason slowly got up and took in a calming breath before he turned to Riyala and offered her his hand. Riyala stared up at Jason in surprise as she wondered if he was really okay. Gina's blood was still staining Jason's clothes and hand, and there was a look in Jason's eyes that told Riyala that Jason was not completely present in the moment. But Riyala could sense that Jason was not interested in mourning for Gina and it would be foolish for her to try and ask him any questions now. So Riyala hesitantly took his hand and allowed him to raise her up.
