STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC218: Ungratefulness

Chapter 218: Ungratefulness

"I need to go somewhere, so you two can stay here and talk about the details of the guild. I'll be back soon. Juliet, make sure Griselda doesn't do anything crazy while I'm gone. Riyala, wait for me here, okay?"

Jason asked that last part to Riyala in her own language, and Riyala immediately perked up and nodded with a smile! Riyala hadn't understood a single word that they had been saying there all along, and she had just stood to the side and been watching in a lost daze. She wasn't very comfortable being left alone with all these strangers, but she was sure that they were trustworthy since Jason had been smiling and laughing around them. She would just stay quiet and try to melt into the background until Jason comes back.

Griselda, on the other hand, let out a frustrated sound when JAosn told Juliet to watch over her! Did Jaosn think she was some sort of child that needed to be babysat!? Griselda huffed at Jason, and Jason just chuckled as he finally left the house. Once he was gone, Gresilda turned her focus over to Riyala as she crept closer and spoke in a conspiratorial voice.

"So, you're from another country, are you? And you were staying in this house all alone with Jason all night and without his girlfriend here to watch over the two of you... How interesting..."

Griselda's voice made Riyala shriek in shock and she scrambled to get away! Griselda raised a brow when she saw the intense reaction from Riyala and she wondered what made her so spooked! It wasn't like Griselda was trying to eat her or anything!

Griselda brought out a phone and opened her translator app.

"Come on. I've got a translator here, so let's have some girl talk..."

Griselda's face spread into a sinister smile and Riyala let out a hiccup in fear as she began taking steps back! She really didn't like being alone with strangers!

——

[King's Substitute] has been activated.

Jason's body vanished from outside the house as he was transported into the Orange Gate that he sent his Legion to! The Rook Rank Spidermonkey Boss, Lupin, appeared in the spot that Jason had been standing, and it let out a small cry before it immediately melted into the shadows to prevent anyone from seeing it.

Jason took in a calming breath as the rush from the teleportation slowly left him and he looked around the new area he had appeared in. It was a swampy region with large gnarly trees growing out from a large lake filled with green water and moss. The entire region was just an enlarged swamp and Jason could hear the sounds of insects and toads echoing through the air from where he was. Jason was currently sitting on the root of one of the larger trees. The roots had spread out across the surface of the swamp and formed a platform that was sturdy enough for people to walk on.

To Jason's left side, multiple Adamantine Ants and Spidermonkeys had gathered the bodies of the swamp vipers that they killed together, and on Jason's other side was a large group of superhumans who were looking at him in shock. The first person Jason noticed was the woman whom he recognized the most, Madam Rose. She was giving him the kind of look he would normally see on Gina's face whenever there was some large plot revelation in the soap opera she was always watching. Her mouth was open and her eyes were narrowed in pure shock as she pointed at him.

"You...?"

The woman spoke in surprise and Jason only gave her a blank look before he spoke to them all.

"The Gate should be open now that the Boss is dead. If you have any injured members, then take them with you and follow that Ant. It'll lead you back to the exit."

One of the Adamantine Ants came forward with a screech to tell them to follow it, and murmurs echoed from all the superhumans there. They looked from one person to another while whispering curiously, but one of them immediately stepped forward with a frown. It was the leader of the Lightbringers and he was not happy!

"What do you mean we should leave like this!? Are you trying to take all the credit for clearing this gate!?"

This one statement made the rest of the superhumans increase their whispering and Jason felt his eyes narrow.

"What did you say?"

The leader of the Lightbringers almost took a step back in shock when he saw the anger in Jason's eyes, but he steeled his resolve and stepped forward again before saying:

"You're the summoner who called the monsters to save us, right? We're grateful that you did that, but that doesn't mean we didn't do anything! We killed many of the monsters before you came to save us, so don't we deserve some sort of compensation!?"

"Yeah, we should get some crystals!"

"Many of our members died here! You can't just leave us with nothing!"

"If you didn't come, then we would've still won!"

"Don't hog the glory!"

The people there immediately began to voice their anger at the lack of any compensation! None of them had been able to say anything when the monsters were gathering the crystals because they had no idea what was really going on, but now that they could see that there was a human controlling the monsters, they were more confident in saying what they really thought!

Jason felt a cold annoyance rising from deep in his heart when he heard their bullshit. They were really trying to demand crystals from him after he saved their lives? If Jason hadn't come here with his monsters, then they would all be dead! One of the Adamantine Ants came towards Jason and handed over a large bag containing all of the crystals and Jason saw how the superhumans perked up once they saw him take it. Jason looked towards the Leader of the Lightbringers with a cold gaze before he opened his Alternate Dimension and threw the crystals inside.

"Hey, where did they go!?"

The leader of the Lightbringers was immediately angry when he saw the crystals vanish into thin air, and Jason spoke with as much poison as he could.

"People like you make me wonder why I go out of my way to help strangers, if this is the thanks I'll get. You would have died in this Gate if I didn't send my subordinates to help you, and instead of saying thank you, you're demanding the crystals that you didn't work for? Fine then, if you want it, then I'm standing right here. Come and get it."

Jason's aura suddenly turned into something sinister and all the superhumans took steps back as they felt the raw bloodlust wash over them! The leader of the Lightbringers fell back to his ass in fear as he felt the intense aura and he swallowed as he felt a cold sweat go down his back! Jason turned his gaze toward Madam Rose who was standing with the other superhumans and she raised her hands in surrender and shook her head to make sure he knew she was not asking for anything. She also thought that they deserved some sort of compensation since they used a lot of resources to enter the Gate, but she was more than grateful that she was alive, so she wouldn't dare to ask for more than that!

Jason turned away from them and spoke coldly.

"I won't repeat myself again. Get your fucking ass off the floor and get out of here. Now."

The large Adamantine Ant let out a loud screech towards the superhumans, and this time no one dared to say a single word as they were all ushered away from the tree and towards the Gate. Jason let out a calming sigh as he shook his head. If Gina was here, she would've probably slapped that man for being so stupid.

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC219: All Four Elemental Types

Chapter 219: All Four Elemental Types

Jason turned towards the dead bodies that were piled up in front of him, and he put his hand out and gently pet Raya on the head when she came closer and rubbed against him. Jason looked over at the boss of the swamp vipers and he whistled low when he saw the sheer size of it. Seeing it through Raya's eyes gave him an idea of just how large it was, but there was nothing that could have prepared him for how large it would be from his own perspective! Its body alone was half as thick as Raya's own and it was long enough to wrap around her more than six times!

"It'll be very useful in water-type dungeons. I already have monsters for Earth, Air, and Fire, so now that I have this, I shouldn't have any issues regardless of what type of Gate I enter."

Jason gained a small smile as this thought crossed his mind, and he put his hand out towards the pile of dead monsters and spoke while spreading out his mana.

"Resurrect."

Doon!

A pressure passed through the region and Jason watched as more than a hundred Swamp Vipers began to slither out from their bodies.

All of the regular swamp vipers were barely over a hundred in number and Jason was a little disappointed since he knew that he would have gotten more if the other superhumans hadn't killed any of them. But Jason didn't allow that to bother him much. Losing those many vipers in exchange for saving the lives of some people was good enough. Jason just had to find another aquatic-type gate at a later date to get more aquatic-type subordinates.

But what had really gotten Jason's attention now was the skill that his new subordinates had given him. The ability to breathe and move around freely within any body of water was already very broken, but the upgraded skill also gave him a boost in his stats whenever he was underwater. And since Jason had still not resurrected the Boss, he knew there would still be one more upgrade for the skill.

Tens of large snakes were moving around Jason's feet and their hisses filled the swamp and made most of the other insect and frog-type monsters run away in fear. Jason easily walked through the large circle of snakes while petting some of them on the side before reaching the large body of the boss. Jason put his hand out and spoke:

"Resurrect."

Jason's mana surged out from his body and latched onto the boss' soul before dragging it out in all its glory! The boss raised its head into the sky and let out a hiss that sent shivers down the spines of the weaker monsters! Its body had a shiny black luster around it, but its mouth was a cave of midnight black! It turned its head down toward Jason and Jason spread his hand invitingly for the snake to come down to him!

The snake immediately lurched towards Jason and Jason had to brace himself and plant his foot into the ground as he caught the giant creature!

Boom!

"Oof! Hahaha, you're a big one, aren't ya?"

Jason laughed as the snake began to slither around him while rubbing its body against his own. It let out another hiss and Jason laughed when he realized that it was trying to warn the other snakes to stay away from him. The snake was a female viper and it was very territorial towards anything it considered as its own.

"It's fine, it's fine. Come on, I need to check my tabs."

Jason spoke with a laugh while climbing out from the snake's coils. He sat on the snake's body high up in the air and let out a small sigh as he saw Raya screeching at the snake in challenge.

"No fighting, two of you. I don't want Ragnar coming out here."

Jason reprimanded them both and he told Ragnar to calm down inside his Alternate Dimension. The large dragon was already begging Jason to unleash it upon the both of them! Jason had no intention of watching the three of his strongest subordinates fight in a swamp, so he told Ragnar to wait until he sent them back into the Alternate Dimension. They could fight all they wanted once they were in there!

Jason turned to that tab that opened in front of him.

This skill is not evolvable.

——

Jason hummed at the new skill he got, and he decided that he would try it out the next time he was in any body of water. There were so many worlds out there that Jason was sure he would eventually end up in a Gate or a world that was located underwater. At least with this skill he wouldn't have to worry about drowning.

Jason finally turned back towards the giant snake he was sitting on and he saw that it was giving him a curious look while waiting for his order. Jason looked up its tab and he read the information there.

——

[Upgrade Points: 0/50]

——

"It's similar to the Skyking."

Jason had this thought while comparing the tabs for the two monsters. They both had the same upgrade limit and even their mana level was the same. No wonder it had a hard time fighting against Raya. Raya was just far stronger than it was.

[Would the user like to assign a name to the new subordinate? Yes/No?]

A new tab appeared, and Jason hummed as he turned towards the large snake once more. What name would be good for a serpentine monster? Many names filtered through Jason's mind, but in the end, only one name stuck with him.

"Salazar."

The snake hissed in delight once it heard Jason mutter the name and Jason grinned. The name was from an old show about magic that Jason had watched as a kid, and it had stuck with him because of how fitting it was.

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC220: The SMD Raid

Chapter 220: The SMD Raid

[Would the user like to choose the name [Salazar] for the subordinate? Yes/No?]

Jason chose yes, and he watched as the stat tab over Salazar's head changed.

Salazar hissed once more in pure delight, and Jason pat it on its head before standing and jumping back to the ground. Jason told all the subordinates to return to the Alternate Dimension and he watched as they all vanished. Once Raya and Salazar appeared in the Alternate Dimension, Ragnar immediately began a fight with them, and Jason just ignored it since he was sure they wouldn't go overboard.

Jason looked around once more with a calm expression before he connected with Lupin on the other side of the Gate and activated the Rook-Class skill.

[King's substitute had been activated]

Jason vanished from the area and reappeared in front of his house. Lupin would find its way back through the shadows, so Jason didn't have to worry about it. Jason looked up at the sky and saw that the sun was only just rising. A lot of things had happened since last night and it almost made Jason think that multiple days had passed instead of just one night. Jason had given Liam till noon today to bring Tobias and Katarina to justice, but he was quickly losing his patience the longer time passed.

"Have you found anything yet?"

Jason sent a message out to Alpha and the other phantoms that he had sent to Greenville for an investigation and he heard Alpha's apologetic voice echo through his mind.

"My king. I apologize, but there has been no sight of the Artefact in any of the BloodRaven guild headquarters or the Artefact dealers in the city. We are currently heading towards the home of Katarina Ford to search there as well."

Jason grit his teeth in annoyance! Why the fuck was it so difficult to find this one artefact!? It had already been more than twelve hours since Gina died and he hadn't gotten anywhere yet! Jason thought that the Lich's Heart was going to be more difficult to acquire, but right now it seemed like the [Banshee's Tear] was far worse!

Ka-Cha!

The door to the house suddenly opened and Jason turned as he heard someone speaking while walking out.

"—I'm just going to see if I can find Jason. I won't be— Oh, Jason! You were out here? I thought you left."

Juliet put her phone back in her bag and she saw Jason standing there and she smiled while walking closer, but she stopped when she saw the frown on Jason's face. She asked Jason if there was something wrong, and Jason released a breath to calm himself before he asked.

"I need you to help me with something. There's an artefact I'm looking for. You said your company also dealt in artefacts, right?"

Juliet nodded.

"Yes, but we aren't really the forerunners. If you're looking for something rare, then you might have to ask Royal Armory or the Black Knight company. What is it?"

"An A-rank artefact called Banshee's Tears."

Juliet immediately frowned as she ran through all her memories, but she eventually shook her head.

"Sorry, I don't remember an artefact like that passing through our company, but I'll make some calls to contacts in the other companies and see what I can find. I'll only take a minute."

Jason nodded in thanks and he watched as Juliet walked over to one side and began to make a call. Jason waited for a few seconds for her to finish the call and she finally turned around with a complicated expression on her face. She thanked the person on the other side of the phone before she spoke to Jason.

"The Royal Armory group was supposed to get a new delivery from BloodRaven and they said the [Banshee's Tears] was a part of it. The trucks were already prepared to leave the guild houses, but the delivery never came. I think it was held back because of the SMD raid that started earlier. The Enforcers in Greenville are currently in a standoff with the BloodRaven guild."

"What?"

Jason frowned in surprise at that information. Jason didn't think that things were that serious. Didn't Liam say that they were going to try and find a diplomatic solution to the problem first? How in the world did it escalate into a full-out battle!?

Jason immediately activated his [Eye of the King] to see through the eyes of one of the phantoms that was watching Liam and he saw that Liam was standing outside a large mansion along with various other SMD agents. There were police cars and military trucks parked around the area and the sound of explosions and screams of battle could be heard echoing out from the large mansion in front of them. Jason was about to tell the Phantoms to go and see what was happening inside the building, but he decided that this wasn't what was really important to him at that moment.

Juliet had just given Jason a clue to finding the [Banshee's Tears] that he had been looking for all this time! Jason's subordinates had searched through most of the buildings and storage facilities in the whole of Greenville for that artefact, but they weren't able to find it because it was never in a building in the first place! The BloodRaven guild had already packaged the artefact, so it would be in one of the transport trucks that they used to move artefacts around!

Jason immediately sent a new order to all the subordinates in Greenville and told them to start searching through all the transport trucks that had any artefacts inside them! Alpha and the other subordinates quickly accepted Jason's order and began to do as they were told and Jason turned to Juliet and told her that he would see her later.

"You're leaving? To where?"

"Greenville. Just take care of things here until I get back, and make sure Riyala doesn't go anywhere. I'll leave it to you."

Before Juliet could say another word, she felt a strange sensation fill the air around Jason and Jason suddenly vanished from his spot! Juliet let out a shrill scream and took many steps back when a strange person dressed in black appeared where Jason had just been! What the hell is this!?

The person looked like a ninja from the stories Juliet had read as a child, it turned to Juliet with a blank look on its face and it tilted its head to one side in curiosity before it suddenly melted into the shadow of the building and vanished from her sight. Juliet felt a shiver go through her body and she shook her head while releasing a sigh. She was already used to seeing crazy things since the emergence of superhumans, but Jason was so unpredictable that she didn't think she would ever get used to the things he did!

——

[Greenville]

The city of Greenville was alive with action. Sounds of police vehicles and desperate reporters could be heard all around the city and the citizens could all tell that something big was taking place. In the heart of Greenville, the building that housed Katarina Ford, the strongest supporter in America, was currently surrounded by policemen and SMD agents who were all looking towards the building with intense gazes. Enforcers were moving quickly into the building with mana suppression cuffs and magic weapons, and there were loud explosions echoing from inside the building as an intense battle raged on!

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC221: The Intense Rebellion

Chapter 221: The Intense Rebellion

The SMD agents around the city street were trying their best to keep the civilians and reporters away from the building, but it was a herculean task due to how many people had gathered to see what was happening. Every street around the building was occupied by reporters. Some of the more desperate reporters had even begun climbing up to rooftops and boarding helicopters to try and get a better view of the mansion. One of them was the same blond beauty who had been present during both the battle between Keith and Raygun, as well as the appearance of Jason's Dragon over Riverdale.

She was standing on top of a building a few hundred meters away from the mansion and holding one hand up to her ear as she listened to the words of her colleagues back in the studio. Once she was done listening, she turned back to the cameraman in front of her and spoke quickly.

"Reports from our sources in the SMD tell us that they have found reasonable cause to believe Katarina Ford was involved in the murder attempt that nearly took the life of Jason Marc during his assessment! These sources also believe that the BloodRaven guild is responsible for various unexplained murders that occurred within Superhuman Assessment Tests over the past few years. As of now, we know that Tobias Grant, the head vice-captain of the BloodRavens, escaped sometime during the night, and the enforcers have already put forward a bounty for anyone with information on his whereabouts! There is currently no information on whether or not Katarina is willing to cooperate with the Enforcers, but from the scene behind me, it appears she is actively resisting their arrest!"

A helicopter swerved across the sky as a cameraman leaned out and took a video of the large mansion under attack. A massive explosion made the helicopter shake, but the cameraman made sure to stay steady as a reporter in the back broadcasted what was happening to everyone at home.

Liam was standing far from the building along with the Head of Superhuman Relations from Greenville, watching the entire scene play out with a frown. At that moment, the only thing crossing his mind was how in the world things could have gone so horribly, terribly wrong.

Things had started off as normally as any other raid. The SMD agents responsible for Superhuman Relations, along with some members of the Enforcers, had come to the home of Katarina Ford to apprehend her. Liam thought that this was just going to be a simple affair. They had proof that she and her Guild Vice Captain were involved in the murder attempt of Jason Marc as well as other superhumans over the years, so they didn't even expect her to put up a fight since they had always seen her as an easy-going person who never wanted conflict!

But things did not go as planned at all. The Enforcers had gone in with their cuffs, and Liam had waited outside expecting them to come out a few minutes later with Katarina. But instead, what they got was a large explosion that took off the western side of the building, as well as many smaller explosions that were still echoing through the region. The sound of fighting raged through the entire mansion, and Liam watched as one of the Enforcers jumped out from the window on the top floor with a superhuman from the BloodRaven guild, and they both plummeted to the ground while still trading blows!

It appeared that Katarina was not willing to go down without a fight, and she was going to do everything in her power to ensure they didn't take her in. According to reports from his agents, Liam knew that there were various members of the BloodRaven guild as well as some maids living here with Katarina. Liam didn't think that they would be a problem since he knew the Enforcers were stronger than all of them, but from the level of fighting taking place inside, Liam could tell that the Enforcers were being put through hell!

"Did she boost their power using her support? Most of the Enforcers are high-level B Ranks and low-level A Ranks, but the BloodRaven guild members are mainly C and B Ranks. The only way they could fight this well is if their power was boosted."

Liam squeezed his hand into a fist at that thought and turned around to talk to the Head of Superhuman Relations in Greenville. The man was standing beside Liam with an expression that mirrored Liam's shock, and Liam couldn't blame the man. Liam had planned a two-pronged attack on both this building and the vice-captain's house, but from what he'd heard, the vice-captain had escaped on a plane last night and was most likely in Riverdale right now. Liam needed to get back to Riverdale as soon as possible, so he had to finish this quickly. If they allowed this fight to get any more intense, then they might put the entire city at risk.

"Call for backup. Tell them to send a Commander or multiple high-level A Rank Lieutenants. Katarina won't go down without a fight."

The superhuman Enforcers present were mainly B Rank and low-level A Ranks, but it was obvious that they were not going to be enough to handle the superhumans in the BloodRaven guild. Liam hoped they would be able to handle all of this without involving a commander, but it was obvious that it would be impossible.

The Greenville Head turned to Liam in surprise and saw the serious look there. He was about to say something, but another loud explosion suddenly echoed through the region and everyone ducked as massive chunks of rock and debris flew off the building and spread out over the street! Liam cursed while moving out of the way as a large rock slammed into where he had just been. What the hell was going on in there!?

"Just call for backup! They need to get here as quickly as—"

"Liam."

"Holy shit!"

Liam screamed while jumping away from the voice that suddenly spoke from behind him! He turned around quickly and felt shock pass through his body when he saw Jason Marc standing there! How the hell did he get behind him like that!? Jason was looking toward the mansion with a frown on his face. He was wearing a long black coat that covered his body all the way up to his lower face, but Liam could tell that he was not happy.

Jason turned to Liam and Liam quickly coughed into his hand and got his breathing under control to get rid of the shock from earlier. Jason couldn't blame the man for being frightened—the situation was already very tense, so it was understandable. Once Liam was back on his feet, Jason spoke only two words.

"What happened?"

Liam sighed and rubbed the back of his neck as he started to give Jason a rundown of everything that had happened till then. He told Jason about how they had come to apprehend Katarina, but she ended up fighting back against them and they were currently trying to find a way to reach her. He also told Jason that Tobias Grant had escaped to Riverdale the previous day, so they had to finish things here before they would be able to go and apprehend him.

Jason hummed while turning back to the building. His mind was only half-focused on the event unfolding in front of him, and the other part of him was paying attention to Alpha and the other phantoms that were going through the various trucks parked in the BloodRaven warehouse on the other side of the city.

'I'm going to have to go in there myself.'

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC222: I Found It!

Chapter 222: I Found It!

Alpha slipped in through one of the cracks in the truck and appeared through the shadow inside the storage compartment. The truck was filled with various boxes containing artifacts, and Alpha quickly began moving through them one after the other while trying to find the Banshee's Tears.

Jason narrowed his eyes as Alpha moved from one to the next and for a moment, he thought that they weren't going to find it here either. But just as Alpha opened the second-to-last box, she exclaimed in Jason's mind as she saw what was inside!

"I found it, my king! It's here!"

The [Banshee's Tear] was a round blue ball that looked like a teardrop. It glowed with an iridescent blue light that made it look very beautiful, but other than that, there were no other properties that made it stand out from any other artifact. Unless you were well informed, you would never know that it was one of the ingredients necessary for the [Elixir of Life].

Jason felt a desperate breath fill his lungs at that moment as he closed his eyes and sighed! Liam watched Jason's relieved expression from beside him in confusion, and Jason didn't bother explaining himself. Instead, Jason told Alpha to take the artifact into the shadow since he had a new mission for her and the phantoms. Alpha did as she was told and Jason waited until he was sure that the artifact was secure.

——

Banshee's Tear

Rank: A

Boosts: +100% Recovery Speed to all Injuries, -50% Damage from Poison

Hidden Boost [Dormant]: One half of the precious [Elixir of Life]

Description: A healing-type artifact that can only be discovered in the hidden alcove of the Banshees. This artifact possesses high healing and recovery abilities, and equipping it during a battle will reduce the stamina loss the user experiences over time.

——

This tab appeared in Jason's system, and Jason just glanced at it before he turned away to give the phantoms their next command while bringing out his phone and searching for a picture of Tobias Grant.

"Go to Riverdale and start from the airport. Sweep across the entire fucking city until you find this man."

Alpha got the image of Tobias Grant from Jason's thoughts and the phantoms all nodded as they prepared to begin their new mission. But before leaving, Alpha asked an important question.

'What should we do when we find him?'

'Kill him.'

Jason's answer was simple and straightforward and all the phantoms took off immediately to complete their new task! Jason walked past Liam and started heading for the mansion in front of him.

"Wait, where are you going!?"

The Head of Superhuman Relations from Greenville called out when he saw Jason walking forward, and Liam immediately cursed!

"Jason!"

Liam quickly began to follow after Jason when he saw that Jason wasn't stopping. He tried to put his hand on Jason's shoulder, but he wasn't even able to make Jason slow down. Liam cursed a second time and spoke louder.

"Jason, the Enforcers have this under control. You said you would give me till noon!"

Jason turned to Liam and Liam stared into his eyes seriously! They couldn't cause an incident by putting one S Rank superhuman against another! If Jason and Katarina ended up fighting here, then they could kill everyone closeby! It was a recipe for disaster!

Jason shook his head and spoke calmly.

"You can come with me if you're that worried, but it'll be better for me to handle this myself. I can handle Katarina without causing much damage, and there are questions I need answers to."

Liam bit his inner cheek and turned to look at his colleague who was standing to one side. The man still looked confused by what was happening and Liam could tell that they were out of their depths. Jason was already here, so wouldn't it be better to have him take care of things rather than waiting for the backup to arrive?

Liam clicked his tongue in anger before he finally relented!

"Fine! Hold off on that backup and call the enforcers back!"

Liam said this to the Greenville Head of Superhuman Affairs and the man was confused by the order! Was Liam really going to leave a raid like this in the hands of some newbie!? They were dealing with the strongest Guild in the country! There was no way one superhuman would be enough!

"Just do it!"

Liam shouted at the man in irritation and the man finally took his comms and started telling the enforcers in the building to retreat. The sound of explosions and fighting was still rampant, but the enforcers started jumping from windows and running out of the building while carrying any injured that they could save. Jason began making his way forward and he passed the various SMD agents and enforcers that were still waiting outside.

"Wait, is that the Dragon boy? The one I saw on TV?"

"That's Jason Marc. What the hell is he doing here?"

"I heard this whole operation is because they tried to kill him."

"He isn't even in the SMD. Why are we letting him inside?"

The officers who saw Jason began to whisper amongst themselves as they wondered what was going on. Jason was very popular with the public because of Ragnar's stunt from the previous day, so they easily recognized him.

Jason ignored the murmuring coming from the officers around and he climbed the large stairway leading up to the mansion, but he was suddenly stopped by one of the higher-ranked enforcers who had been standing outside. The man put his hand on Jason's chest and pushed him away from the door with a frown before he turned to Liam.

"What is the meaning of this? You called us back so you could send a rookie inside?"

The man's voice was hard and deep, and he almost sounded like a father reprimanding his children with the look he was giving them. Liam immediately began to try and explain things to the enforcer, but Jason stepped up to the man and looked him right in the eye.

"Get the fuck out of my way."

There was a loud silence that suddenly settled over the area. The enforcers all looked at the pair of men in a standoff and they collectively held their breath as they waited for what would happen next. There weren't many superhumans who would dare to stand up to an enforcer the way Jason just did, and they all knew that this could escalate into a fight if they weren't careful.

But they were all shocked when the enforcer suddenly moved to the side and stepped out of Jason's way. Jason continued to move up the stairs and Liam followed after him with just as much surprise as everyone else. Behind Jason, the high-ranking enforcer stood with his head bowed! His hands were tightened into fists and he swallowed desperately while trying to get his heart rate under control! That had been the most terrifying moment of his life!

At the moment when Jason threatened him, it was almost like he had been standing in front of a giant! Jason's pressure was unlike anything he had ever felt and he knew that there was no chance of him ever winning against someone like that!

Jason approached the front door calmly. There was debris and blood staining the front porch, and Jason could feel the sand crunching under his feet as he entered the building with Liam following behind him. Inside the building was silent. They were standing at the start of a long hallway and all the lights and candles had been turned off so the entire house was completely dark.

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC223: Clearing The Way

Chapter 223: Clearing The Way

Liam touched Jason's shoulder and Jason felt an invigorating feeling pass through his body as Liam's mana washed over him. Jason turned to Liam curiously and Liam just shrugged.

"It's not much, but that should boost your stats by about thirty percent for the next hour. Okay, so what now?"

Jason didn't really need the stat boost, but he was grateful for it. Especially since he was running low on mana from the massive distance he had covered using the previous [King's Substitute].

[Predator's Gaze] has been activated.

Jason's eyes bled to red as he activated this skill, and he watched as the area in front of him brightened up immediately. The hallway was lined with various broken vases and splintered wood, and there were dead bodies littering the floor. Jason narrowed his eyes to focus his [Predator's Gaze] even more, and he gained a smile when he saw red silhouettes standing behind the wall at the end of the hallway. They were waiting for Jason to get closer so they could attack, and Jason couldn't help but chuckle in amusement as he began to head into the darkness.

Jason activated his [Black Fog] and the entire hallway suddenly filled up with a dark smoke that prevented anyone from seeing anything at all! Liam immediately began to take steps back in surprise when he saw the fog, but Jason told him to stay still. Jason sent a message to two of his subordinates and he watched as they appeared from his Alternate dimension and walked into the real world. The first person was Rosa Santos, one of the twins who tried to kill Jason earlier, and the second person was the Dragonborn imperial guard that Jason had killed while rescuing Riyala. Jason immediately commanded both of them to go and clear out the various superhumans hiding in the shadows.

Rosa charged forward first! Her ability [Schrödinger] was already active so it didn't matter how powerful the superhumans in front of her were or how much they had been supported by Katarina! Her base abilities immediately surged to match their own, and she turned the corner of the hallway in a perfect spin that positioned her right beside the first superhuman!

Slash!

Her blade tore through the superhuman's neck and he let out a strangled cry as he stumbled back in pain and fell to the ground!

There was another superhuman beside him, and he immediately tried to use an artifact to fire at Rosa! But Rosa fell back into the fog before he could fire the weapon and his attack missed by a mile! He started to breathe heavily while looking around for where she had gone! The black fog had completely restricted all his senses, so he couldn't find her!

'What the hell is this smoke!?'

The man thought this as he began backtracking. This entire situation was becoming too much for him to handle. He was one of the most loyal members of the BloodRaven guild. He had lived his entire superhuman life as a follower of Katarina, and he believed in all his heart that she was a goddess brought down to earth for their salvation! When the SMD agents appeared at the door of the mansion a few hours ago to try and capture their goddess, the BloodRaven guild members had all locked themselves inside to make sure that no one could get in. They knew that the Enforcers were there for Katarina, so they began thinking of a way to help her escape.

But what they didn't expect was for Katarina herself to refuse their help. Katarina was still holed up inside her chapel, and when they told her that they needed to leave the building, she told them that she was not interested in going out of the chapel. She didn't care if the Enforcers were there for her or if they wanted to arrest her. She was not going to leave this building and there was nothing anyone could do to change her mind!

After that, the members of the BloodRaven guild decided to split into two groups. Most of them came out here and began to hold the Enforcers back as much as they could, and the rest of them stayed back to try and convince Katarina to change her mind! They were still not sure if she was ever going to listen to them, but they were determined to make sure no harm came to their goddess!

The man gripped the weapon in his hand tighter and watched the darkness around him with a heated gaze! He couldn't falter at this point! He was fighting to protect the goddess, so he was not going to fail! The man slowed his breathing and allowed his heart rate to drop as he waited for any sign of movement, and he was immediately alert when he saw a figure shift from his left! He turned around with the weapon and prepared to shoot, but before he could do anything, he felt a sharp pain pierce into his back! A sword burst out from his stomach and he let out a strangled cough as he turned around to look into the blood-red eyes of his killer. The Dragonborn twisted his sword sharply and pulled it out in one smooth motion and the man fell to the ground and slumped.

The man had been a B Rank that was being boosted by Katarina's support, so if this had been a regular fight, then it was likely he would have won against the Dragonborn, but the inability to see anything was too much of a disadvantage, and it gave Jason's Legion the freedom to move however they wanted!

The screams and shouts continued to resound across various parts of the mansion as the Dragonborn and Rosa continued their rampage. Jason decided that he wasn't going to bring out any of his larger monsters in this fight since it would be overkill. The Santos twins and the Dragonborn were natural killers and they all had enough experience from their time alive to make sure they took out all the fighters without much effort. And Jason was also sure that there was no one stronger than an A rank among the Guild members here, so those two would have no problems since they were also A Ranks.

"What's happening? I can't see anything."

Liam spoke from behind Jason as they walked forward and Jason just shrugged as he spoke.

"I'm clearing the way forward. Just stick close to me and you'll be fine."

Liam didn't understand what Jason meant by that, but he had a guess that it had something to do with this fog. What was this, and how in the world was Jason able to use it? This was definitely another type of Gift, but Jason said that his Gift was necromancy. Liam was still trying to figure out the full truth about Jason's abilities, but he decided that he would just let it go for now since they were in the middle of a mission.

Jason continued sweeping through the mansion as he went. Jason was following the trail of mana that he could feel leading deeper into the building. The mana was mostly concentrated in a room in the center of the mansion, so Jason was sure that this was where Katarina would be.

BOOM!

An explosion rang out from the side of the mansion as one of the superhumans finally managed to kill the dragonborn soldier, but the superhuman was easily killed by Rosa immediately after, and Jason used up a small amount of mana to resurrect the dragonborn and sent him back into the fight again.

A loud scream echoed from another superhuman when it saw that the Dragonborn was coming back to life, and Jason turned sharply when he saw a ball flying towards him! Jason easily dodged to the side to avoid the ball, and he let out a calm hum as the ball exploded behind him!

BOOM!

The entire left side of the mansion was suddenly eradicated, and Jason raised an eyebrow in surprise as he turned back and saw that it was a man who had thrown it. The man had his eyes closed, and he was standing a few meters away from Jason with a grin on his face. Jason narrowed his eyes at the man and watched curiously as the man produced two more balls from his back pocket and threw them at Jason as well! The balls flew straight at him, but two of the Phantoms appeared in front of Jason and crossed their arms as they tanked the explosion!

BOOM!

'He's using mana to sense his surroundings?'

Jason realized that the man was using the same technique that he used to detect the Santos twins in the Red Gate. The man had given up on using his senses and was now using his mana to search the area for opponents. Jason spread his mana outwards to see how strong the man was and he scoffed when he saw that the man was only a low-level A Rank. Jason told three of the Phantoms to get rid of the man, and Jason continued walking as the man turned his attention towards the incoming attackers! It didn't matter how skilled they were at using their abilities. Someone as weak as that didn't stand a chance against Jason's Legion!

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

"Argh!"

The sounds of explosions and screams echoed from behind Jason, and Jason ignored all of them. Liam was still moving with Jason, and since Jason didn't allow him to see through the fog, he couldn't see much of what was happening. As Jason moved, he shifted his perspective towards Alpha and the other phantoms that he sent after Tobias, and he saw that they were currently searching through various abandoned warehouses and houses where Tobias could be. There were no leads on Tobias's whereabouts, so the only way they would be able to find him was by targeting every area that had a high mana density and then combing through it to see if Tobias was there.

But since Tobias had only landed in Riverdale this morning and he was trapped there by all the SMD agents looking for him, Jason was sure that he wouldn't be that far away from the airport. They would find him eventually. Jason turned his attention back towards the fight happening in the mansion, and he watched as Rosa tore through another superhuman that had been swinging her sword wildly!

In the chapel located at the center of the mansion, Katarina knelt before the crucifix with her hands joined in prayer. She had heard the sounds of fighting and battle echoing through the mansion, and she could tell that her subordinates had been clashing against the Enforcer, but the loud echoes had stopped a few minutes ago and now there was nothing but silence! Anyone else would think that this meant the fighting was finally over, but Katarina knew better! Even though there were no more explosions, the battle still raged on!

Katarina sent out her mana towards all her subordinates, and she was using every bit of power she had to support them and ensure they gained as much of a power boost as possible. But even with her support, she could feel the lives of her subordinates being snuffed out one by one! It was happening so quickly, and Katarine couldn't help but feel saddened about the number of people that she was sacrificing just to extend her life for as long as possible. Was this really worth it? She always knew a day like this would come, so why was she fighting the inevitable end? Why was she still afraid to face the promised King?

No, Katarina couldn't die yet. She had done too much and come too far to stop now! Katarina made a lot of mistakes in her life, and she knew that no amount of apology would fix the mistakes she made. She destroyed the minds and lives of so many people just for her own selfishness. She had even taken her brother and made him into a puppet that lived only to do her bidding, just to ensure that she lived for a moment longer. This wasn't something you could simply apologise for. Katarina had no choice but to see this through to the end.

Katarina could feel through her magic that her brother still lived. She knew the magic signatures of every single person she supported, so she was sure that the brother was somewhere out there! And Katarina also knew that he was likely creating a plan to escape so he could come and save her from this mess. That was what she had programmed him to do, after all.

Katarina felt a deep sadness fill her heart when she had these thoughts and she stood up slowly as she turned around with a more serious expression! Behind her were five women dressed as nuns. They were all members of Katarina's guild, and they possessed enough power to be regarded as A Ranks. These five nuns were the subordinates whom Katarine had blessed the most out of all her guild members. With the amount of boosts she had given them, they were powerful enough to even take on low-level S Ranks! And since none of them had any regard for their own lives due to the fact that Katarina's [Mana Shots] had molded them into loyal slaves just like Tobias, the nuns were willing to lay down thier lives to ensure Katarina was safe.

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC225: Rune of Mortal Severance

Chapter 225: Rune of Mortal Severance

Massive impacts echoed from outside the chapel, and Katarina waited with her hand held in front of her as the impacts grew louder and closer! A force slammed into the chapel door and made the room tremble, and Katarina knew without a doubt that the King had reached her dwelling place. An even greater force slammed into the door a second time, and this time it tore the door off its hinges and sent it flying towards them! One of the nuns immediately went in front of Katarina and diverted the flying door to the side to make sure it didn't hit her. Meanwhile, Katarina simply stared at her visitor.

Jason was standing at the chapel entrance with his hands in his coat pockets. There was an empty look in his red eyes that sent a shiver down Katarina's spine the second it was directed at her, and at that moment, Katarina knew with certainty that this man was the King.

'I'm not going to live through this.'

Katarina didn't even know where this thought came from. It was like an instinctual declaration that ran through the head of every species the moment they faced off against an opponent far stronger than they were! Life was not a movie, and reality was too cruel for anyone to think that it worked in their favor! It was the same way a cornered deer would stand no chance against a Lion! The moment you faced an opponent that far surpassed your power, and you had no plan other than to fight back in desperation, there was no doubt that you were not going to live to see the next day!

The nuns charged forward immediately they saw Jason, and Katarina closed her eyes and turned away from the sight so she wouldn't see what was about to happen. Jason put his hand to the side and summoned one of the Dragonsteel swords he had retrieved from the Phantom base! The first nun to reach him had a long spear in her hand that she thrust forward with a shout, but Jason easily sidestepped the attack and slashed his hand across her midsection! The sword easily passed straight through her body, and before she even knew what was happening, her top half was falling away from her bottom half!

Jason started to walk into the chapel with calm strides! The second nun held twin daggers and tried to perform a sweep attack that would take Jason off his feet, but Jason simply stood his ground and allowed her attack to land.

BAM!

The nun's eyes widened in shock when her leg slammed against Jason's own, and there was no reaction at all! It felt like she had just kicked a tree! Jason twisted his sword into a reverse grip and brought it down on the nun's neck in one smooth movement that didn't allow her to retaliate!

"Grk...!"

The third and fourth nuns attacked simultaneously from opposite sides! One of them had a fire-based Gift that she used to shoot flaming arrows at Jason, and the second one was a brawler who wore gauntlets on her hands and prepared to pummel Jason!

Jason didn't even bother to stop his stride! Instead, he called on Rosa, the Dragon Rider, and they both appeared from behind the nuns and stabbed them through the back! The nuns let out choked cries when they felt the swords pass through their bodies, and Jason dismissed his subordinates and allowed the bodies to fall to the ground lifelessly! The final nun was still standing in front of Katarina with a nasty glare in her eyes. She was holding a long sword and pointing it at Jason fearlessly! It was obvious that she didn't care what had happened to the other nuns! She was willing to lay down her life if it meant protecting Katarina! Jason scoffed at the pitiful sight as he kept walking forward.

"Stop! This is your only warning!"

The nun thrust her sword forward in what she believed was a threatening way, and Jason eyed her for a moment before he narrowed his eyes in irritation and sent out a surge of pure mana!

Doon!

The nun gasped when she felt the intense mana push against her, and her hand shook! She stumbled back as the weight of Jason's mana increased even more, and she eventually fell to one knee when it became too much! What in the world was this mana!? It was astronomical! She had never heard of an S Rank with this much mana in her life! Jason walked up to the nun and looked down at her impassively, and for the first time that night, Jason saw fear flash through her eyes.

Slash!

Jason's sword came cut through her neck and the nun was dead before she could say a word.

Jason flicked his sword to one side to get rid of all the blood dripping off it and commanded the five battle nuns to head out of the chapel and make sure there were no other superhumans around the area. The nuns bowed once more before they melted into the shadows and went to do as Jason commanded. They were all Rooks, and Jason could already think of various applications for them since they had such good teamwork.

'An attack force made up of Battle nuns was the last thing I expected to have.'

This thought brought a small smile to Jason's face, but Jason's smile vanished as he turned to face the woman he had come here for. Katarina Ford still had her eyes closed in discomfort as she looked away, and Jason allowed his eyes to trail over her regal appearance calmly. There was no denying that she was a beautiful woman. She had caramel skin that glowed in the orange light of the candles surrounding the chapel, and her hair was a pure white that contrasted well with her skin. She was undeniably attractive. But she was also a fucking coward!

Jason walked up to Katarina and harshly grabbed her face! Katarina's eyes snapped open in fear, and she became even more terrified the moment her eyes met Jason's piercing gaze! Jason positioned his sword against Katarina's heart, and Katarina immediately shouted:

"Wait! You'll kill everyone if you kill me!"

Jason's eyes narrowed. What?

"What are you talking about?"

Katarina reached up and pulled her shirt down to reveal her dark caramel cleavage. If Jason were any other man, his eyes would have immediately gravitated toward the skin of Katarina's exposed breasts and how her large chest seemed to strain against her gown, but Jason wasn't interested in that at all! Instead, Jason's eyes moved to the tattoo carved into Katarina's chest just between her breasts. It was a black tattoo of a multi-headed hydra, and Katarina spoke quickly.

"This is the [Rune of Mortal Severance], and it allows me to share my lifeforce with every person I share my power with. I have given my mana to more than fifty thousand people in the past ten years. So, if you kill me now..."

Katarina didn't need to complete her sentence for Jason to know what she was trying to say. Katarina was currently sharing her life force with more than fifty thousand people across the country, and if Jason killed her, then he would kill them all.

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC226: Self-Sacrifice

Chapter 226: Self-Sacrifice

Jason didn't know if Katarina was telling the truth or not, but he could feel a significant amount of mana pulsing out from that tattoo, and he knew that it had to have some extraordinary function! Jason felt anger swell in his heart as he realized how fucking twisted this woman truly was! She was so terrified of death that she was even willing to wager the lives of all those people just so she could preserve her own!

'Is she lying?'

Jason immediately asked this message to the system, and the system responded quickly.

[The rune carved into the subject's chest is indeed the [Rune of Mortal Severance]. It is a special magical item that is used mainly by the leaders of cults and secret organizations to protect their lives and the secrets of their cults. If the leader of the cult bearing the Rune were ever to be killed, then every member of the cult who has dedicated their lives to the leader will also lose their life to ensure cult secrets cannot be extracted from them.]

Jason grit his teeth in anger at this answer! He dragged Katarina with a rough tug, and Katarina felt fear pass through her heart as Jason seethed right in her face.

"You fucking coward..."

These were the only words that Jason said at that moment, but they struck Katarina so deeply in her heart that she didn't even know when she began to tear up! Katarina's eyes watered desperately, and she sniffed in despair while looking up at Jason. Jason's frown deepened as he saw this, and he clicked his tongue in irritation before he tossed her to the side roughly! Katarina fell to the ground at the foot of her altar, and Jason calmly walked over to the first seat facing the altar. He sat down and leaned against his sword before looking down at the crying woman with an impassive stare.

Katarina continued to cry as she hugged her legs desperately, and Jason offered her no words of compassion. The sound of footsteps echoed from outside the chapel, and Liam finally appeared from the darkness outside while breathing heavily. Jason had left Liam a few minutes ago to find where Katarina was, and Liam only managed to find his way here now! He looked around at all the dead bodies littering the floor and grimaced at the loss of life! He knew that they brought this on themselves by attacking first, but that was no reason for him not to feel bad that they died!

Liam then turned away from the dead bodies and faced the front of the chapel where Jason and Katarina were. Jason was leaning forward and staring at Katarina, and Katarina was on the floor crying profusely! What in the world did Jason do to that woman? Liam wisely chose to stay back and simply watch what was going to happen. He stood a small distance away from the pair with his hands behind him as he watched the events unfold. Back with Jason and Katarina, the woman was still crying as she sat on her knees. She hugged her hands around her body and bowed her head in shame, and Jason's frown only deepened as he finally spoke.

"Your crying is becoming irritating. Stop."

Katarina shook at Jason's words and put a hand up to her mouth to try and muffle her crying. Jason waited until he was sure that she wasn't wracking with sobs anymore before he spoke.

"You and I have never met before today, that much I'm sure of, and yet you decided, for some fucked up reason, that it was necessary to get rid of me. Tell me why you were after my life."

Jason's gaze pierced into Katarina, and she found herself looking away from how heavy it was! Katarina placed her hand against the floor to hold herself up and stared down miserably, and Jason barked in anger!

"Answer me!"

Katarina shook in fear once Jason shouted at her and she immediately spoke up.

"I... I wasn't after your life. I never wanted things to turn out like this. If I had a choice... I would never interact with the world outside these walls again. I just want to be left alone."

How pathetic. Jason couldn't stop this thought from crossing his mind as he heard what Katarina had to say. She sounded like someone who had truly given up on life, and she was simply holding onto her pathetic existence out of fear of death. Jason stared at Katarina calmly and spoke.

"What really happened in that Green Gate ten years ago?"

Katarina's entire body shook at the mere mention of the Green Gate, and Jason watched as she had a near meltdown! She put her hand on her head and pressed her forehead against her knee while letting out a low cry! Her eyes were wide as she stared at something in front of her that only she could see! Jason immediately called on one of his subordinates, and Rosa appeared from beside Katarina and grabbed her by the arm! She pulled Katarina up, and Katarina let out a pained cry as she was forced to face Jason once again.

Jason's eyes were still completely devoid of all emotion, and he simply stared at Katarina while calmly waiting for an answer. Behind them, Liam thought about intervening since things were starting to spiral out of control, but he decided against it. This was important, and Liam also wanted to know what Katarina had to say.

Katarina looked into Jason's eyes for a few seconds, and she could see her own mad image reflecting off his pupils. She bowed her head, and a miserable laugh echoed from her mouth. Rosa was still holding her up, and that was the only reason why she stayed on her feet when she spoke.

"You want to know how it happened in the Gate? Do you want to know why I was driven away from humanity and secluded myself from the world for so long? Did you think that it was fair? Five of us were sent into the Green Gate alone. Five newly awakened superhumans, without any support or aid from the government, like lambs to the slaughter. We were thrown in there and asked to save the world. They called up the Five Rulers and told us we would be heroes! But that was a lie! We were Martyrs! Sacrifices! They fully expected us to die, and we would've if not for him! You have no idea what it was like! No one knows what it was like for us! What we saw in there wasn't some Magical Beast! We met the devil himself!"

Katarina suddenly shot her head up to Jason once again, and Jason could see madness in those eyes! Jason narrowed his gaze as he simply listened, and Katarina let out a small laugh as she continued.

"We weren't even good enough for a warmup! The five of us were like ants before that monster! I stared at it and I knew without a doubt that it would be the catalyst that ended the human race! We're nothing in front of the monsters out there! Nothing! Do you think I could still live amongst these doomed animals after seeing something like that!? Do you think I'd want any part of this world after knowing what was waiting for us!? Hahah! You think I wanted to kill you? If you want to save this world, then you'll do it yourself! Take a sword and fall on it so we don't have to suffer through that madness! Sacrifice your pathetic life for the sake of the other humans!"

STRONGEST NECROMANCER SYSTEMC227: You Don't Understand

Chapter 227: You Don't Understand

Katarina's breath was coming out in harsh puffs as she glared at Jason heatedly! This was the first time Jason would see her express so much emotion, and Jason weathered all of it with a calm look on his face. Jason had gotten a lot of information out of Katarina's rant just now. The first bit of information was the fact that Katarina had been far more affected by the presence of the Primordial than Cersai thought. When the Rulers first went into the Gate, they had only been S Rank individuals. The five of them were the strongest that humanity could offer, but Jason knew without a doubt that they were not powerful enough to handle what was inside a Green Gate!

S Ranks would find it difficult to even take on Yellow Gates, so Green Gates would be far beyond their limits! So the Rulers must've gone through hell inside that gate before Jason's father arrived to help them. But what really stuck with Jason was the fact that Katarina was telling him to end his own life. She made it seem like his existence was what would determine whether or not the human race would end.

Liam's face had taken on an expression of complete confusion as he listened to the conversation. Not only did he not know what Katarina was talking about, but seeing the normally calm Katarina look so terrified while talking about her trip into the Green Gate made him realize just how serious this was! Katarina was the weakest of the five Rulers, but that didn't mean she wasn't powerful! Anything that would make her look like this was enough to put true fear into him!

Liam stepped forward.

"Jason, what is she talking about—?"

Jason suddenly put his hand up to stop Liam's words, and Liam immediately paused his advance. Jason didn't even bother turning around to regard him, and that was enough of a dismissal for Liam to know that Jason didn't want him interfering. Liam wisely chose to stay silent and he listened as Jason continued his questions.

"Was that why you were trying to kill me? You think taking my life will prevent the Primordial from killing everyone?"

Katarina was still breathing heavily, but now her head was bowed, and she was staring at the ground as she spoke.

"Yes, I do."

Jason huffed and said,

"Then you're a fool."

Katarina suddenly looked back up at Jason and she felt surprise pass through her when she saw Jason's condescending look. Jason pointed his sword at her and spoke like a man giving advice to a child.

"You went into a Green Gate and met a monster capable of destroying the world if it were unleashed, and for some reason, you decided that your best course of action would be to kill the one person capable of standing against them? You know, I thought you were only a coward for using the lives of so many people to protect your pitiful existence, but I was wrong. You're nothing but a pathetic little girl. A fool who doesn't even know the meaning of the word 'courage'."

Jason stood from the bench and towered over Katarina. Both of them were around the same level of power, but at that moment, Katarina didn't feel any of the superiority that she would normally feel when facing off against another superhuman. She felt small and powerless as she gazed up at Jason.

"Rather than finding a way to fight back against that monster, you decided to lock yourself in a self-made prison and you allowed your subordinates to carry out your dirty work so you didn't have to feel guilty about the twisted things they did. You're nothing but a parasite, Katarina. A parasite that feeds on the life of others and runs away when things don't go your way."

Katarina allowed her head to fall once again. Jason just didn't understand. He hadn't been there when they met that monster, so there was no way he would be able to comprehend the sheer monstrosity that was coming for them. They couldn't fight back against something like that. It didn't matter if all the humans on Earth ganged together under one banner or if they built the strongest weapon their minds could conceive! It still would not be enough! The only thing they could do was to follow its orders and hope that it would show them mercy when it returned.

"You just don't understand..."

Katarina muttered quietly, and Jason turned away from her when he suddenly got a message from the Phantom he sent to kill Tobias Grant. One of the Phantoms had found the BloodRaven vice-captain in a secluded mansion a couple of miles away from the airport. It called on the other Phantoms and they made their way toward where Tobias was. Tobias was surrounded by his guild members, and the moment Tobias noticed a change in the atmosphere, he immediately knew that there was something hiding in the shadows.

The Phantom attacked the group and the ten Pawn Rank Rook-Subordinates held off the other guild members while Alpha went after Tobias! Tobias' Gift allowed him to create long whips made from flames and he used it masterfully to try and kill Alpha, but Alpha was more than capable of handling herself in a fight. Tobias was only an A Rank, so his speed and strength were around the same level as what Alpha had, but unlike Tobias who was fighting for his life, Alpha didn't have the fear of death holding her back, and that was more than enough to create a significant difference in power between them!

Alpha charged at Tobias while expertly dodging his whips and the moment she got close enough, she used her poison blade to leave a long cut along his arm! Tobias cursed as he quickly slashed his whip across the air to drive Alpha back and Alpha moved back and simply stood at a distance. Jason watched through the [Eye of the King] as Tobias's stance began to become unsure. Tobias staggered and stumbled as he moved forward, and sweat began to pour from his forehead as his vision swam. The knife that Alpha had used to attack Tobias was the same poisoned blade held by every member of the Phantoms, and all it took was that single cut for Tobias to begin losing himself.

The poison in the blade became less potent the stronger a person was, so unlike Gina, who had fallen down after only a few seconds of being cut, it took Tobias nearly a whole minute before he fell to one knee. He put his hand on his head and let out a grunt as the poison started to work through his body and it wasn't even two minutes later when he fell face first into the dirt.

Alpha walked up to Tobias' prone body and she drew the sai at her waist. She turned his body over and looked into his wide, suffering eyes before plunging the sai into his neck to kill him in one go.

Jason released a calm sigh when he got this message. At least the person who planned to kill him was dead, so he didn't have to worry about them targeting his family for now. Jason glanced at Katarina, and he hummed when he saw the look of confusion on her face. Katarina was staring at the floor with wide eyes and she seemed to have just realized something terrible. Jason was confused for a few seconds about what could have happened, but he suddenly smiled when he realized what it was.

"So you can feel when your subordinates die as well?"

Chapter 228: A True Coward

"So you can feel when your subordinates die as well?"

Katarina looked up at Jason in shock, and she felt a tremor go through her heart when she saw the knowing look on Jason's face. Katarina just felt the link that she had with her brother shatter to pieces. The only reason something like that would happen was if all of her mana was completely removed from her brother's body... or if her brother was killed.

Katarina suddenly felt an intense feeling of sadness fill her heart at the realization of what had just happened! Even after everything that she had done to her brother and all the evil that her brother had committed in her name, Katarina still loved him dearly! He was one of the only people that she still cared for in this world, so it was almost too much for her to bear when she realised that he was gone. Katarina put a hand over her mouth to stop a sob from escaping and she fell back to her knees. Jason brought his sword forward and used it to lift Katarina's head to face him again, and Katarina tried her best to control her sobs as she faced Jason's piercing gaze.

Jason spoke in a commanding tone.

"I really don't give a fuck about your sadness now. In fact, the only thing your crying is doing is pissing me off. You have no right to feel sad after all the fucked up things you've done. I might not be able to kill you because of that Rune, but there are still ways I can make your life hell if you don't give me exactly what I want. Now, tell me everything that happened when you faced the Primordial."

Katarina sniffled once more to try and clear her throat, and she hesitated for a few seconds before she finally began to explain in a low, sad voice. She started from when the five Rulers went into the Gate and met with various monsters. They fought off some of the monsters there and were making progress, so they thought that they were going to be able to close the Gate easily, but they had been seriously mistaken!

Before they could even fight against the Green Gate Boss, another Ripple opened up in space and from that ripple, a creature walked out. Its figure wasn't something that Katarina could explain with words. It was almost like staring upon something beyond human comprehension. She just couldn't wrap her head around what it was! All five Rulers were affected seriously by the creature's presence, and when the creature spoke, two of them passed out!

Its voice resonated deep in their heads, and when Katarina tried to explain what the sensation felt like, Jason could see genuine terror in her eyes! It was as if she was reliving that moment all over again, and she could still feel the fear that she felt then! Katarina had to quickly move on and she started to explain what the creature had said. It told them that it was a Primordial and its mission was to prepare the humans for the coming of 'The One Above All'. Its people were on a mission to colonize all of the Primordial Expanse, and they decided that Earth would be their first colony in this part of the Primordial Expanse.

But the Primordial wasn't interested in returning to Earth with the Rulers. Instead, he was willing to send them back to Earth alive, but in exchange, they had to do something for him. There was a prophecy from one of their Primordial Seers that spoke of a man who would be strong enough to oppose their conquest. That man would be the King of Earth and his presence would delay the coming of 'The One Above All'. If they wanted Earth, then they needed to take care of this man first. But the issue was that the Seer did not yet know who this King would be or what he looked like. The Primordials were a race of very long-lived beings and so they were a very patient group, so they decided that they would give the task of finding and killing the King to the Earthlings themselves.

The Primordial promised them that if the five of them found this King and ended his life before their next coming, then they would not only spare the five, but they would also ensure that the five were given significant power in the new world order. All they had to do was kill one man.

It was a tempting offer. All five of the Rulers had been S Rank superhumans at the time, so they were regarded as the strongest of humanity, and all five of them could feel that they did not possess the power needed to take on a creature like this! In fact, even now that Katarina as well as every other member of the Rulers had grown far stronger than before, and even the whole planet had also grown more powerful, the Rulers knew that they still did not stand a chance against that one single Primordial. It was a terrifying thing to imagine what sort of power the rest of the Primordial race would possess, or what sort of monstrosity something as strong as the Primordials would refer to as 'The One Above All'.

"So you see what I meant now, when I told you to simply fall on your sword and die? Don't you think it is a mercy you should be willing to grant us? If you truly think that the world deserves any form of protection, then this is the greatest thing you can give us. Lay down your life so that we can live. Sacrifice yourself so that the rest of us will stand a chance at survival. Please... I beg you. My words alone are not enough to convey that creature's power. You would never be able to understand it unless you saw it yourself. You would never know true fear unless you stood before its power. It is not something we can withstand."

"I see..."

Jason took his sword away from Katarina's throat, and Katarina's eyes widened when she saw the nonchalant look on his face! Was he really going to ignore all her warnings? Did he think she was joking!? Jason's eyes were empty of all emotions, and he gave Katarina a condescending look before he spoke up.

"You really are the biggest coward I've ever seen if you think killing the one person who could have saved you was your only option. That's why you never stood a chance both now and back then, you're the sort of person who gives up before the battle even begins. The coward who runs away at the first sight of danger. If the Primordial wants my life, then let them come. I'll give them a fight unlike anything they have ever seen, and I will make sure they suffer for their ambitions. 'The One Above All' can go fuck itself for all I care."

Katarina could only stare up at Jason in shock as she heard his words and the absolute confidence that was laced in them. She fell back to sit on her knees, and she couldn't stop a self-pitying laugh from escaping from her mouth. Her mind travelled back in time to what had happened after the Primordial appeared. There was another man who came into the gate just when they thought there was no more hope for them. Someone who was strong enough to challenge the Primordial without fear.
