Vannnilllite!! I heard my dad's furious roar as I speed walked away from the house laughing my butt off.
You're probably wondering how I got into this situation? Well we'll have to go back about an hour, after waking up without Petilil in my arms I slowly adjusted myself to get up, eventually noticing her on my desk in the sunlight, deciding to not bother her while she photosynthesized, I headed to the bathroom to do my morning routine.
Last night I went to bed early and woke up an hour earlier than usual. Once I finished up in the bathroom I quickly went back to my room, checking the time I realized that my dad would wake up any minute now to take his morning shower.
That gave me an evil idea, one that will get me punished, but it will definitely be worth it.
While I was hastily throwing on my clothes and chucking my homework into my backpack, my movements had disturbed Petilil. And by the looks of it, she wasn't happy with me disturbing her "ilil", she stated as she bent down two of the leaves on top of her head leaving the middle one still standing.
That was probably the closest thing to giving me the middle finger a Pokemon that didn't have hands or fingers could do. Raising my eyebrows in amusement at her actions, I decided to mess with her, moving my hand in front of her I flipped her off in return. "See Petilil, this is how you do it."
"Ilil!"
"I also can do this, and this", I started doing any hand movements that involved fingers, ending with a thumbs up.
"Illlliii!!" In frustration she started jumping up and down on my desk, at the unfairness called thumbs.
Both Petilil and I knew that Lilligant, including the Hisuian variant that I mentioned to her didn't have fingers, no matter the evolution she would never have fingers. Having had enough fun teasing my plant, while she was still having her pity party I moved around my room to find my hoodie, once I had it on I splashed some water from my hand on her.
"Sorry Petilil, but we'll have to get going soon."
Turning my back to her, I got on my knees, then using one hand to hold the head of my hoodie, while the other moved my hair into it. Petilil catching on hopped off the desk, and jumped into my hoodie then made herself more comfortable in her little nest.
With Petilil now comfortable, she was less grumpy, slowly making my way downstairs I had to go extra slow because aunt Hannah was sleeping on the couch. While using the slow stream of water to fill up my water bottle, I looked out the kitchen window and saw both the Leavannys and Lilligant outside in the sun.
As I observed them I heard heavier footsteps from upstairs, pausing my actions for a moment to hear better, I soon heard the sound of the shower starting. Smiling maliciously I headed for the pantry. Upon opening the door I grabbed a bag of Pokemon treats then moved towards to the freezer, and sure enough there was mama's Vanillite.
This particular Vanillite was generally lazy and would ignore everyone except mama, the only way someone else could get it moving was to bribe him. Vanillite feeling the freezer door moving he curiously opened one of his eyes.
I just shook the bag of poke treats, capturing his full attention, "Hey Vanillite, do you want a treat?" The Vanilite finally stopped lounging on its bag of ice and started hovering in front of me.
Taking out one of the treats and while waving it around I spoke, "Vanillite, I'll give you this if you can do one simple task for me, does that sound good?" Vanillite just gave me an interested look, I couldn't help but feel like the devil while making a deal.
"Vanillite, all you have to do is use your Ice wind move on dad, make sure it doesn't hurt him, just make it as cold as you can" Vanillite now understanding what it must do nodded then just opened its mouth not moving. My eye was twitching at the audacity of this lazy pokemon, making me feed him, The moment I put the treat in his mouth he just stared me dead in the eye while slowly chewing.
Luckily for him the treat wasn't that big, otherwise I would have chucked him out the window, before I could continue that train of thought, Vanillite finished then headed towards the stairs. Grabbing my stuff I headed out the back door, hearing a pleased hum from Petilil as I entered the sunlight. The other pokemon didn't really seem to notice me so I continued walking around the house.
My parents room was on the second floor, there was a little bathroom window near the edge of my house where I could make out the top of my dad's hair. After waiting for 20 more seconds I noticed in one of the corners Vanillite approaching while gathering light blue energy.
Eeeeehhhhh!!! Is what I heard from the house, "gooood, goood", I said while bringing my finger tips together doing my best Palatine impression after doing that I speed walked away cackling. I had to hurry since Vanillite would definitely sell me out for another treat, or mama would ask him to spill the information, I could only feel a sense of loss because I didn't have a phone to record my dad's scream.
While still chuckling at my dad, I arrived at school, since I had left the house early school wouldn't start for another hour. By now Petilil was constantly shifting in her little nest, taking a seat at one of the outside tables, I reached behind my head and plopped Petilil down in front of me.
We stared at each other for a moment before I slowly exhaled, "okay Petilil, you want to get stronger right?" Petilil just nodded "ilil", "alright first I need to know what moves you know besides tackle." Almost every Pokemon has the move, Petilil turned around and surprisingly quickly released a yellow looking powder, she had stun spore.
Next a green energy started forming over her. Once it was gone Petilil looked around and noticed a tree, the tree practically shook in fear as the tiny Pokemon charged at it, after Petilil finished I noticed a small indent in the tree, probably growth.
While I pondered Petilil turned to me trying to gesture with the three little leaves on top of her head. First pointing to the tree, then moving over to it touching it as she moved back to her initial position. Going over what I knew of Petilil, the move she was pantomiming was absorb, "was that supposed to be absorb?"
"Petilil." Was all she said before moving back over to me, once she was within grabbing range I put her into my lap and started bouncing her like a baby, then started strategizing while rubbing her head.
While Petilil didn't have many moves the few she had I could work with, "alright Petilil I have a few ideas to boost your combat prowess."
At this Petilil who was in my lap perked up and was eagerly looking at me, after taking a quick drink of water I started speaking, "For now Petilil while we wait for school to start I want you to practice releasing stun spore, try to make the spores release as fast as you can while trying to keep the area the same". After nodding Petilil hopped off me then started practicing.
Time flew by and eventually school opened and more people started showing up. With one of the other teachers unlocking the classroom we moved into our home room. While I was messing around with Petilil, I head the faint sound of whistling coming from the hallway, a few moments later, Kyra appeared then made her way over to me along with her Misdreavus in tow. Picking up Petilil I stretched out my arms presenting Petilil to Kyra, "Kyra look, I now have a pokemon a Petilil!"
Kyra just watched all this with a small smile along with a raised eyebrow, "so you got a Petilil?" She said testing the name, right I forgot none of us had a Pokédex and most kids didn't really care to know any other Pokemon outside of Sinnoh. "
Yes Petilil, she is a Unova pokemon, I just got her yesterday, isn't she adorable?" Kyra just shrugged, "eh would have been cuter if she was a Phantump.", "Haha, I'd expect nothing less from our resident ghost lover." Turning our heads we saw Noah approaching smiling while waving his hand at us.
During all this Misdreavus hovered closer to Petilil, then stretched out her lips and stuck out her tongue at Petilil blowing a raspberry, Petilil glared back at the pokemon looking as if she was ready for a battle.
Hearing the raspberry I looked over and saw the look in Petilil's eyes as she stared at Misdreavus, turning back to the conversation Kyra just huffed at Noah words with a small blush on her cheeks. We continued talking until class was about to start, finally recalling Petilil back into her pokeball letting her rest during school hours, which was when Barry arrived with Lucas.
While taking their seats I couldn't help teasing Barry, "So you can sit correctly, was your ass spared?" Barry's originally cheerful demeanor turned smug, "Indeed Hikari, I was able to play the sympathy card for my eye, so yeah, my ass was spared."
"Mr. Summers, do I need to call your mother?" right on cue Mr. Curtis walked in right as Barry finished, Barry first froze for a moment but at the mention of his mother Barry shrank back into his seat trying to look as small as possible, "Yes Mr. Curtis."
During lunch a few more kids had asked about Petilil, Lucas overhearing them put two and two together came over bombarding me with questions. "What type is it? What is her favorite treat? Does she need to eat or can she just absorb sunlight? What are her moves?"
I answered as many as I could but when he asked the last question I just smiled and looked over at Noah, who took a second to catch on but when he did we looked at each other with the same cat-like smile as we both turned to face Kyra, who suddenly had a bad feeling.
"How in the world did I get roped into this? Kyra could only grumble as she put her head on her desk, after much coaxing, and begging from both Barry and Lucas we had convinced her to battle me after school.
Now as I was standing opposite of Kyra as we were under the gaze of every kid from our class, once school ended everyone followed us, and were using one of the battle arenas in the local park for our battle. While most kids didn't have a pokemon it wouldn't be that hard to find a wild pokemon who would agree to battle, most of them were battle junkies, heck a battle could even even get momma's Vanillite moving.
You would think that my dad's Shinx would be the first to beat the crap out whatever random pokemon that thought going through our trash was a good idea but nope. If Vanillite ever heard something rustling through our trash he was the first out the door. While Momma wasn't a battler she had trained Vanillite to freeze any pokemon into an ice cube. Then Shinx would smack the cube in the general direction of the pokemon center. Every time we got a call from the pokemon center about that momma would take Vanillite out for ice cream.
Does that sort of count as cannibalism??
Back to me and Kyra's battle, we had Noah acting as our referee, "On this side we have Kyra with her Misdreavus, and on this side Hikari with her Petilil, who will win!?." Everyone was excited even Kyra who normally didn't like this much attention had a smile on her face.
"On the count of three both of you throw your pokeballs in, is that understood?" we nodded towards each other, "ready Kyra?", "Ready as I'll ever be"
"3, 2, 1, go!!"
The moment Noah finished we tossed in our balls, "Misdreavus", "Petilil" both of our pokemon announced their presence. Kyra didn't waste a second before calling out her first move, "Misdreavus use confusion."
"Misdreavus" it cried as it fired, "dodge it and get close to her" I called to Petilil, she dodged the initial blast but, "Misdreavus keep firing confusion until it hits" Kyra called right back as I finished speaking.
Having the smaller pokemon definitely helped in this battle, while Petilil wasn't that much smaller than Misdreavus it showed as Petilil was able to narrowly dodge Misdreavus's attacks.
As Petilil got closer to Misdreavus, Kyra also realized this with a frown on her face, she called out her next move "Scary face, astonish, then use shadow ball", now panicking a little I called out as fast I could, "absorb" we both finished at the same time.
The next thing we all saw was a giant ghostly looking head about the size of a minivan appeared for a few seconds then a small green orb left it, as it did Misdreavus returned to her normal form then a purple circle came out from behind her.
I could only wince as Petilil squeaked, realizing she flinched, "Misssssdreavusss" is what I heard next as I looked up to see Misdreavus flinging her shadow ball at Petilil.
By now the green orb had been absorbed into Petilil, Petilil regaining some health looked better until she saw the purple ball closing in on her. "Petilil use the blast from the ball to launch yourself and use tackle."
At my words everyone in the crowd looked at me as if I was an idiot, everyone knew normal type moves didn't work on ghost types. Petilil bent down slightly, making the shadow ball hit the ground behind her, but she couldn't escape unscathed; she looked severely roughed up.
After she landed Petilil got up then started charging forward as if this was the final push, Kyra probably saw this as a last ditch effort and didn't think much of it because she didn't give Misdreavus any new orders. Once Petilil was almost face to face with Misdreavus I finally called out my next move.
"Petilil, use stun spore", Kyra with her eyes wide called for Misdreavus to float higher, but it was too late, Petilil could already release stun spore pretty fast and with the little training she had this morning it only came to her slightly faster.
Misdreavus was enveloped in the yellow mist, as Misdreavus started coughing I made my move, "Petilil absorb", "ilil" by the time Midreavus's vision came back to her, Petilil had already absorbed her health. "Misdreavus, use astonish and follow up with shadow ball", Kyra called now looking worried
"Again" I called, just as before a purple ring came out of Misdreavus, but a green orb left her before the flinch could happen.
The hit landed and Petilil flinched, but Misdreavus was done the third absorb had finished her, swirls appeared in her eyes as she groaned softly.
After a moment Noah finally called the match, "Misdreavus is unable to battle, the winner is Petilil." I ran towards Petilil scooping her up and twirling her around, after a few more spins I stopped spinning and recalled Petilil into her pokeball.
Walking over to Kyra who had recalled Misdreavus, giving her a hug which startled her, "Hikari?"
two minutes later
"Hikari", "Yes", I responded, "Can you let me go?"
"Nope" I stated while picking her up, again startling her, after walking in a circle while she squirmed I finally put her down much to her relief, "that was brutal combination of scary face, astonish, and the shadow ball" Kyra just pho huffed smiling at the end.
"Yeah, trust me you would be surprised by what preschoolers say from overhearing their parents." By this time the rest of the class had encircled us, "Congratulations Hikari", "sorry spooky." "Better luck next time Kyra" is all we heard for the next few minutes.
Aside from Noah, Lucas, and Barry everyone just called Kyra spooky, "alright Kyra you want to head to the pokemon center?", "Yea, Misdreavus could use the treatment." We eventually parted ways with everyone, we arrived at the pokemon center we gave our pokemon to nurse joy, while we were walking Kyra turned to me.
"Just because you beat me this time doesn't mean I'll lose next time.", "I look forward to that time, by the way are you going to register to choose one of the three pokemon we get before our journey?"
We could register in groups of three or get mixed in with others to choose either a starter fire, water, or grass type. Kyra shook her head, "no I'm going to form a team that all has the ghost typing" . "Knowing you that makes sense."
"Alrighty girls your pokemon are all healed" , we heard as nurse Joy approached, we both grabbed our balls, thanked her, and left. After parting ways with Kyra I headed home.
Arriving home I found momma, aunt Hannah, the Leavanny's, Liligant, and dad with Shinx in his lap in the living room watching tv. Upon noticing me dad shook his fist at me while glaring at me, momma turned off the tv, "hello Hikari how was school?"
"School was okay, but I won my first pokemon battle" I said with all the pride I could muster, everyone in the room perked up especially Lilligant. I filled them in on the details of our fight against Kyra and her Misdreavus. By the end of it Petilil was being spoiled by everyone with treats, in the end today was a good day.
Or it least it would if not for the end, after Petilil was done being pampered it was late and everyone was tired. Because of the battle at school earlier I had completely forgotten about what I did to my dad this morning, evidently he did not. The only warning I had was a low voice from under my bed, "shiiiiinnnxx"
"Oh no"
"AAAAAAHHHHH"
(Author note - Thank you again for getting me to 10k views, I finally have the dream team mentally assembled, I wanted to get the pre journey chapters over with so that's why the chapter is so long. Next chapter there will be a timeskip and Hikari will go on her journey.
