Chapter 126 - Isn’t It Reasonable for an Ordinary Person Like Me to Fly?

Yet now, he had fallen to this point. Even among India's ordinary people, the slums he lived in were among the worst environments imaginable.

Ironically, just across the wall stood one of the world's most famous wealthy districts—a contrast that perfectly captured the unique character of India: luxury mansions rising amid endless shantytowns.

"Something like that. I got here through… certain channels," Bruce Banner said. "By the way, could you have your people back off a bit? I think you know what's inside me. Being held at gunpoint tends to make it angry. Trust me—you don't want to see it angry. If it wants to, it could tear down every house around here."

Natasha Romanoff hadn't expected Bruce Banner—no, the Hulk—to be so perceptive. She had already ordered her S.H.I.E.L.D. team to wait outside, far beyond visible range, yet he had somehow sensed them anyway.

His awareness far exceeded her expectations.

"Everyone, fall back another hundred meters!" Natasha ordered again.

Only then did Banner feel a faint sense of safety. It wasn't that he feared their weapons—he'd tried every method imaginable, and nothing could hurt him. Not even suicide.

What he feared was provoking the monster inside.

To keep it calm, he had to maintain emotional peace at all times.

Even the slightest anger, and he'd transform—and once that happened, the entire slum would be reduced to rubble.

"So, do you feel like talking now?" Natasha asked. She was curious why Banner had recognized her so quickly—logically, he shouldn't have.

Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a familiar notebook lying on the table inside the room.

Lin Feng's Diary (Bruce Banner's Copy).

In that instant, everything clicked into place. Of course—Banner had one too. That explained why he recognized her immediately.

Nothing strange about it now.

"You have a diary too?" Natasha asked directly.

"Too? What do you mean 'too'? You people have one as well?" Banner said, stunned.

He had thought the diary was his unique opportunity—only to realize he wasn't the only one.

But then it made sense. The cover clearly read "Bruce Banner's Copy." If there was his copy, why couldn't there be others?

With such a shared medium, there was no need for excessive explanations. They all understood.

Through the diaries, they had learned how terrifying the future could become. Mutual trust came naturally.

Banner already knew, for example, that he would one day join S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Avengers Initiative as one of its two top-tier combatants.

There wasn't much left that needed to be said.

"Can I ask how you got your diary?" Natasha asked.

So far, there were three known diaries: one held by Nick Fury, one by Tony Stark, and one by Thor. They had appeared randomly—no discernible pattern in time, location, or person.

She wanted to know how Banner's copy had shown up—perhaps there was a clue to its distribution.

"One day, it just appeared in front of me," Banner said, still baffled.

It had materialized out of nowhere, startling him. He'd studied it in every way possible, but never figured out how it worked.

"Have you shown it to anyone else?" Natasha asked.

"No. I know better than that," Banner replied.

Natasha exhaled in relief. Good. If he'd shared it, things could have gotten complicated.

Suddenly, Banner's expression changed. "It's updating," he said. "I can feel it—new content is appearing."

Natasha nodded. That was consistent with the others' experiences—whenever the diary updated, they felt a faint, inexplicable sensation, as if being notified.

It wasn't strong, and could easily be missed if one were distracted.

"If you don't mind, shall we read it together?" Natasha asked.

"Sure," Banner said after a moment's thought. Since she already knew about the diary, there was no point hiding it.

He avoided showing it to ordinary people because its contents were far too shocking. The things Lin Feng wrote—parallel universes, multiverses, timelines, alien invasions, gods descending to Earth, the Dark Dimension Lord Dormammu devouring everything—

Which of these could an ordinary person possibly accept?

Even if he told someone, it would sound like some online conspiracy theory—or the ramblings of a madman.

This world was nothing like what he had imagined. There were far more terrifying organizations and forces at work.

S.H.I.E.L.D., for one, operated in the shadows, handling the world's darkest affairs. Then there was Kamar-Taj—an order of sorcerers so powerful it defied comprehension.

The less a normal person knew, the safer they were.

They opened the diary together. Natasha activated her portable projector, turning the slum house into a temporary virtual conference room.

Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. had already evacuated the surrounding area—no risk of being seen.

It was Banner's first time joining such a meeting. Seeing each participant's face appear—especially the world-famous Captain America, Steve Rogers, and Iron Man, Tony Stark—left him momentarily stunned.

That these legendary figures also knew about the diary was astonishing.

Suddenly, everything Lin Feng had written made sense—no wonder he often mentioned that the timeline was changing from what he remembered.

Of course it was. These people had the diaries too and had avoided countless pitfalls in advance.

Naturally, history had diverged.

Banner now understood many things that had puzzled him before.

"This is Dr. Bruce Banner," Natasha introduced. "You should all recognize him if you've been reading the diary…"

"I do," Banner said simply.

"Everyone, Dr. Banner also has a diary," Natasha explained.

The group exchanged looks of realization.

"So there's really no pattern?" Tony Stark rubbed his chin thoughtfully. The distribution of the diaries seemed utterly random.

As far as he knew, there were now copies held by himself, Nick Fury, Thor, and now Banner.

There was no clear logic—except that all belonged, more or less, to the Avengers.

But even that wasn't consistent.

If it were purely based on Avengers membership, then why didn't others have one? Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye—all core members, yet none possessed a diary.

Clearly, being an Avenger wasn't the determining factor. There had to be something else.

The thought gave Tony a headache. If these diaries ever spread beyond their circle, the consequences would be disastrous.

"But seriously," Tony muttered, "he just went out flying for fun, and still had time to write in his diary?"

He scrolled through the new entry.

[Finally awakened the ability to fly! Isn't it perfectly reasonable for an ordinary, ridiculously handsome guy like me to be able to fly?Today's full diagnostic results are in—all metrics show massive improvement. Looks like I've entered Phase Two.I can now sprint 100 meters in under one second, which I'd say officially qualifies me as a speedster.Emmmm… why not? Even Quicksilver Pietro, the so-called 'disgrace of speedsters' who can still get shot by bullets, counts as one—so why can't I? (dog-head emoji)]

As soon as they read that Lin Feng had awakened flight, and even claimed "it's perfectly reasonable for an ordinary person to fly," everyone nearly flipped the table.

Reasonable?! Not in the slightest!

Thor almost lost his composure entirely.

Reasonable? He, the mighty God of Thunder, couldn't even fly without Mjolnir!

He had to swing his hammer to do it!

That alone showed how rare flight was in the current Marvel universe.

In the entire first-generation Avengers team, only two could "fly": Thor—thanks to his hammer—and Tony Stark, via his powered armor.

Both relied on external tools, not innate ability.

But Lin Feng? He could fly freely.

That was a completely different level.

How could they not be jealous?

The ability to soar through the sky, to swim through the air—who hadn't dreamed of that?

How infuriating. That damned mortal!
