Alex sighed. The headache he anticipated had come earlier than he thought.
He rubbed his throbbing temples as he walked down the hallway that led away from the council room to his safe space. His study. He wondered if the boy was still there, then his jaw ticked in response to the thought.
That was one of the reasons for his headache. Aside from the fact that the council kept countering all his opinions because they wanted to prove a point to him, the orphan boy kept popping into his head at random moments like a bad joke. And each time it happened he had to grind his teeth to focus. His mood, worsting, fortunately kept the council just beyond the line.
The council was determined to show Alex that he couldn't rule, that he wouldn't sit on the throne after his father. Alex couldn't care less cause he knew there wasn't a thing they could do. He already had his plan. He would sit on the throne long enough to change the council members which is something no other king has done before.
The council members and dukes were direct linage from the first awakened humans who tried to stop the brothers. So no king had tried change the council members before. But he was sure they were corrupt now. He would be the first king to change things around here.
Alex's shoes suddenly came to halt as he was about to turn the corner, into the hallway that would take him into his study. He heard muffled voices coming from the other corridor. Alex concealed his presence and turned the corner slowly, not wanting to alert who ever was there. The sight before him made his eyes narrow in quiet anger.
