The air grew nippy as darkness descended. The forest was even more ominous and weirdly still—no sign of life. Not like I was surprised. I mean, everything seemed to have withered, but then, at least the writhing sound of maggot should be evident. Yet, nothing.
Sophia and I cleared a spot in the forest where we could sit. Nonetheless, not a good place since everywhere was practically rotting, but it was better than just standing and risking our strength vanishing quickly.
"How long do we stay like this?" Sophia's teeth chattered as she spoke. She wrapped her arms around her, but it barely did any good. "I think I am going to freeze to death."
We'd both freeze to death. I was too cold to think straight. My limbs were starting to get numb; it was only a matter of time before we both succumbed, and well, maybe died.
