Following Natasha, Banner walked through the spacious corridor, where technological facilities on either side flickered with cold blue light, and mechanical operators worked in an orderly fashion. The entire sky carrier exuded a sense of high-tech militaristic coldness.
He couldn't help but feel shocked, silently estimating the cost of this sky carrier in his mind. Even though he was a scientist and usually didn't pay much attention to financial matters, the scale of this investment was enough to make him feel incredible. He couldn't help but whisper to Natasha, "How much would it cost to build this sky carrier? Could S.H.I.E.L.D.'s budget have already exceeded that of a country?"
Natasha smiled slightly, not answering directly, her tone carrying a hint of teasing: "Dr. Banner, this is one of Earth's defense lines. It's best not to think about its cost, otherwise you'll get a headache."
Banner lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then sighed: "It seems this operation is truly extraordinary, otherwise they wouldn't deploy such high-spec equipment." His voice was low and carried a hint of helplessness, but his eyes revealed caution about the current situation.
"It's precisely because the situation is urgent that we must mobilize all our strength," Natasha said, leading him through a heavy steel door. Ahead, the entrance to a conference room was faintly visible, with several Agents standing outside the door, their gazes sharp as eagles patrolling the surroundings, clearly ensuring watertight security.
Banner stopped and asked in a low voice, "Besides me, what other 'geniuses' have you brought in to deal with this alien threat?"
Natasha smiled slightly with a hint of mystery, her tone relaxed yet serious: "You'll meet them soon. Each of them has their own strengths, and they are the top existences on Earth. You could say that the most powerful and unique combat forces on Earth are gathered here right now."
Banner's brows furrowed slightly, and a hint of unease appeared in his eyes: "This sounds more like an alliance built for war... not a scientific research team."
"War is always forced upon us, and this time, we have no choice," Natasha said, looking at him with a determined gaze and speaking in a deep voice, "Earth needs a team that can contend with alien forces, and you are a crucial member of it."
Banner sighed helplessly, took a deep breath, and muttered softly, lowering his head, "I hope I don't bring about a greater disaster."
Natasha patted his shoulder and said with gentle encouragement, "You just need to do your best, and we'll handle the rest. Remember, you're not alone."
The two continued to walk forward, gradually approaching the heavy metal door.
Banner pushed open the conference room door and immediately saw a familiar figure sitting lazily in a chair with his legs crossed—it was Tony Stark. He held a can of soda in his hand, drinking it casually. Seeing Banner and Natasha walk in, a playful smile appeared on his face, and he waved: "Hey, Dr. Banner, long time no see! But I remember the last time we met was after saying hello to your 'Hulk friend', right?"
Banner smiled awkwardly and scratched the back of his head, clearly not wanting to mention that "meeting" in a rage.
Tony stood up and casually adjusted his suit, but his eyes showed curiosity: "Honestly, since then I've looked up a lot of information about you and the 'Hulk', you're truly an incredible guy." He said this as he walked over to Banner, examining him as if evaluating his "ordinary person" image.
Banner also smiled slightly, trying to ease the atmosphere: "Tony, actually, I didn't have much of a good impression of weapons company presidents like you before... but since you transitioned into the energy industry and designed that suit of armor, I admit, I've started to admire you a little."
Tony raised an eyebrow smugly: "Oh, this is truly an unexpected compliment! And it's from one of the smartest brains in the World." He pretended to be surprised and patted his chest, "I'm almost overwhelmed. You know, 'geniuses' like me always crave recognition from our peers."
Banner couldn't help but laugh, with a hint of helplessness in his eyes. Although the man in front of him was extremely narcissistic, he had to admit that Tony indeed had the capital to be arrogant.
After a few pleasantries, Banner's expression gradually became serious, and his thoughts couldn't help but be drawn back to his previous experiences. He asked in a low voice, "Tony, you say... does S.H.I.E.L.D. really have a way to control beings like me? I once fought that monster called 'Abomination', and Dominic was also involved in the battle... but we all know that this kind of danger won't completely disappear. Will S.H.I.E.L.D. plan to find them again?"
Tony shrugged and put on an indifferent look: "Frankly, I haven't been 'hanging out' with them lately, after all, I've been fully devoted to 'my career' during this time, thinking about doing something green and environmentally friendly." He shook his head lightly and added, "But if they really want to find me, I might make them wait, after all, it's an 'environmental cause', who doesn't like 'fresh air'?"
Banner couldn't help but smile slightly, thinking Tony's teasing was quite timely and just happened to ease his tense emotions a bit.
At this moment, Natasha interjected at the right time, a playful smile on her lips: "Tony has indeed been much quieter lately—they say his girlfriend keeps a tight leash on him." Her tone carried a hint of teasing, deliberately dragging out the word "girlfriend" as if to watch Tony's reaction.
Tony rolled his eyes helplessly and spread his hands in feigned innocence: "Well, I can't help it, who made me meet a super Agent girlfriend? Besides, some people can't have dinner with a 'cold and beautiful female Agent' every day." After saying this, he deliberately glanced at Natasha, with a hint of a smile that wasn't quite a smile.
Natasha smiled lightly and retorted indifferently: "As if I'm not an Agent. Don't forget, I've always been 'working' at S.H.I.E.L.D., unlike you who just plays around everywhere."
Tony shrugged and laughed: "Alright, Natasha, then please let the 'S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent' help us see what surprises are in this plan. You know, I'm not the kind of guy who blindly follows everything."
Banner watched the two of them tease back and forth, and his heart gradually relaxed. He realized that although he had chosen to live in seclusion, he didn't seem to be isolated and helpless in this team now. Natasha's calmness and determination, and Tony's humor and confidence, all gave him a strange sense of security.
He lowered his head and muttered softly to himself: "Perhaps... I should try to believe again."
Just then, the large screen in the conference room lit up, and the image of Nick Fury appeared on the screen. His stern gaze swept over the three, and his voice was low and powerful: "Welcome, Guardians of Earth. What we are about to face is an unprecedented challenge."
