Chapter 91 - The God Who Talks Big, the Mortal Who Kneels to Survive

On the top floor of Stark Tower, Loki's dark green cape fluttered in the wind, his hand tightly gripping the Mind Stone, its tip glowing with an intimidating yellow light. He waved the scepter, coldly scanning the staff in the hall, and said in a low voice, "Get out, mortals, you are not worthy to be here. When I rule the World, you can come and worship me." At his command, the controlled staff members turned around, their faces expressionless, and walked one by one towards the exit, like driven zombies.

At this time, only one person remained by Loki's side—the doctor who possessed the technology to activate the spatial channel, Eric Selvig. He looked at Loki beside him, his eyes showing a hint of fear, but also a slight unease. He knew that once the spatial channel was activated, it would mean the terrifying result of unleashing the Chitauri army.

Loki turned his head to look at Selvig, a meaningful smile on his face, and said in a low, threatening voice, "What, Doctor Selvig, do you also want to resist my will?" As he spoke, the yellow light at the tip of the scepter trembled slightly, as if hinting at the impending terror.

Selvig's throat bobbed. He took a deep breath, his expression clearly tense, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He nodded and said cautiously, "I... I just want to make sure... make sure everything is foolproof." He lowered his head, pretending to be busy checking the equipment, his hands trembling slightly, fearing that saying the wrong thing would incur Loki's wrath.

Loki let out a light snort, a cold smile playing on his lips, his tone laced with sarcasm, "Oh, foolproof? Humans are always trapped by this so-called 'safety' and 'assurance', it's ridiculously boring. Your lives are nothing more than this, Selvig."

Selvig lowered his head, his face pale. Although he was afraid, there was a hint of hidden unwillingness in his eyes. He couldn't help but ask in a low voice, "Loki, do you really believe that the Chitauri will keep their promise? Will they really... submit to you?"

Upon hearing this, Loki glanced at him, his tone cold with a hint of disdain, "Selvig, your understanding is too shallow. The Chitauri obey power, and I—" He raised his scepter, his eyes filled with an unconcealed fanaticism, "—will control all power! Earth, the Universe, all the stars will bow under my rule."

Listening to Loki's wild claims, Selvig's eyes showed a trace of complex emotion, and he muttered in a low voice, "Rule... but rule only brings more chaos and destruction..."

Loki suddenly turned back, his tone icy as he questioned, "What? Are you doubting me, or are you questioning your own worth?" He slowly aimed the tip of the Mind Stone at Selvig, as if a single thought could strip the scientist of all free will.

Selvig immediately waved his hands and quickly responded in a low voice, "No, no, I... I would never disobey. I... I'm just worried... worried that I can't ensure the complete stability of the device." His voice trembled slightly, his heart filled with self-doubt and fear, even wondering for a moment if he would die here.

Loki curled his lips into a cold smile, gently patted Selvig's shoulder, his voice soft but containing a hidden threat, "Rest assured, Doctor. You are a crucial part of this great plan; as long as you don't mess up, you will live well. After all, I need your mind, and I don't want you to become useless just yet." His tone was full of false gentleness, as if treating Selvig as a valuable chess piece.

Selvig nodded slightly, forcing out a smile, but his heart was trembling with nervousness. A hint of struggle flickered in his eyes, seeming to want to persuade Loki to stop, but looking at the other's cold face, he ultimately swallowed all his words.

Loki lightly waved the scepter and said coldly, "Now, activate the channel and let the Chitauri army descend upon Earth! I will show them that I, Loki, am a true god!"

Selvig took a deep breath, his trembling hands beginning to operate the equipment, while in his heart he prayed, praying for some miracle to prevent the impending catastrophe. But he knew that as long as Loki was here, his prayers would only be a joke. He didn't want to die, nor did he want to serve this crazy plan, but at this moment, he had no choice.

Loki slightly looked down at Selvig who was operating the equipment, his expression self-satisfied and arrogant, as if the entire World was submitting to him. His eyes flickered with unconcealed fanaticism, and he slowly spoke, his voice low and with a hint of mockery, "Do you know, Selvig, you mortals, full of talk about freedom and independence, yet stumbling forward in invisible chains? I, Loki, am not of the mortal kind. I am a god, a god from the Norse mythology that you worship."

Selvig's hands, operating the equipment, paused slightly. He furrowed his brow, his lips moved, as if wanting to say something, but his eyes were full of helplessness. A resistance surged in his heart, wanting to refute, but he didn't dare to speak.

Loki caught this hesitation, curled his lips, and continued, "You mortals, faith, worship, passed down for thousands of years. Look at your President, your countries, those politicians—they call themselves 'public servants', but they are your true rulers. You treat them as leaders, obey their will, but who can possess true freedom?" Loki's voice grew deeper, his eyes holding a hint of contempt, "Now, I am before you, Selvig. I am the true god, and you are merely a mortal ruled by me."

Selvig looked up at Loki, trying to argue, "You make it sound like... everyone is waiting to be ruled. But we—" He hesitated, his voice gradually lowering, as if not daring to defy Loki's cold scepter. "Humans exist precisely because we have free will, don't we? We don't need a god to tell us what to do." Although his voice was weak, it carried a hint of hidden resistance.

Loki laughed coldly, clearly not taking these words to heart. "Freedom?" he repeated dismissively, his gaze seemingly looking beyond Selvig, "Freedom is just a fantasy for mortals to comfort themselves. Do you have the freedom of choice, or control over your destiny? You are just a group of ants, meticulously bound by so-called faith, so-called freedom. What I bring you is the only true 'stability'." He emphasized his tone, seemingly pleased by Selvig's resistance, "You know, I am your god."

Selvig couldn't help but whisper, "But even a god can be questioned... We humans will always question, explore the unknown, even gods." His words held a hint of hesitation and struggle, as if engaged in some internal contest, "That is our—the meaning of free existence."

Loki's smile became even colder. He slowly approached Selvig, gently waving the scepter in his hand. The yellow light shone on Selvig's face, like an invisible sense of oppression. Loki's voice was low and full of sarcasm, "Free existence? In your hearts, isn't so-called freedom just a delusion? Humans always try to break free from constraints, but ultimately they just put themselves into another kind of Shackles. The more you crave 'freedom', the more you fear true rule." His tone gradually rose, "And I will become your only Master. This is not glory, but your only destiny."

Selvig's face turned pale, illuminated by the yellow light of the scepter, but he struggled with unwillingness in his heart. He took a deep breath, forced out a hint of firm expression, and said in a low voice, "You cannot control us forever, even if you call yourself a god. Humans... will not always yield."

Loki's smile turned cruel. He slowly raised his hand and gently touched Selvig's chest with the scepter, his tone soft but full of threat, "Oh? You think you will resist? Then come on." He sneered, saying contemptuously, "But I will make you pay a greater price for every attempt. I will make so-called freedom your heaviest burden."

"Oh oh oh oh, no, no, I yield... I really yield!"

Selvig trembled, raising his hands, his knees went weak, and he directly knelt before Loki, his face full of fear.
