"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 222: Playing with Fire—And I'm Already Full
The exorcism was a complete success. Shuo felt a deep, satisfying comfort settle into his bones—no lingering aches, no awkward aftereffects. He slipped on his clothes, mood light as he reached out to ruffle Origami's silvery hair.
"Lunch is on me today. If you're still not feeling well, take it easy and rest a bit more, alright?"
Origami hesitated, cheeks tinged pink. She swallowed, voice a little too casual.
"No need. I feel great now. I'll just go freshen up."
She tossed on a loose jacket and slipped out, leaving Shuo alone with the still-slumbering Tohka. He paused, then gently healed her lingering wounds before heading to the kitchen.
Soon, the air filled with the mouthwatering scent of home cooking. Tohka, lured by the aroma, blinked awake. She glanced at the rumpled sheets, her cheeks flaring red. Then she scratched her head, muttering in confusion,
"Did I just hear… squishy noises? Was Origami sneaking snacks again, or was I just dreaming?"
Deciding it wasn't worth puzzling over, she got up—just in time to see Shuo setting lunch on the table.
"Wow, Shuo, you made so much food!"
He grinned. "Hungry, Tohka? Go wash up and dig in."
"Mm!" She hurried off, returning moments later to dive into the feast with her usual gusto.
Origami soon joined them, freshly washed and quietly taking her seat. Her eyes lingered on the red date pastries, the nourishing chicken soup, all the little touches that showed Shuo's thoughtfulness. Warmth bloomed in her chest.
But after only a few bites, Origami set down her chopsticks. Shuo frowned, concern in his voice.
"Not to your taste?"
She shook her head, almost shy.
"It's not that. I'm just… already full."
Shuo glanced at her nearly untouched bowl of seafood porridge, puzzled.
"Full? You barely ate anything."
Origami's cheeks deepened to crimson. She looked away, voice barely audible.
"I… already had something else."
Shuo froze. For a moment, he was speechless—then silently finished her leftovers. No sense in wasting good food, after all.
After lunch, Shuo suggested, "Why not move into the Spirit Apartment with me?"
Origami nodded, her answer soft but certain.
"Okay. I'll pack up my things and come over."
A little more time spent in each other's arms, then Shuo rounded up Tohka and the three of them headed home.
The living room was a gallery of reactions—every girl on the sofa staring at Shuo and Tohka with a different expression.
Crunch!
Kotori snapped her lollipop in half, her eyes narrowing with disdain. Her voice was low and biting.
"So you're saying—not just Tohka, but Origami too? You did those forbidden things with both of them last night!"
Shuo hadn't even opened his mouth when Tohka's face turned beet red. She stammered, at a total loss.
"We're in love, you know!" Shuo shrugged, flashing a roguish grin that nearly sent Kotori into orbit.
"Tch! You three-legged perv, your brain's just a pile of dirty magazines. You're such a scumbag…" Kotori's glare could have melted steel.
To Shuo, it was nothing but the bitter rage of a sore loser.
"Hey, thanks for the compliment!" He grinned, unbothered. He'd been called worse, and honestly, the more "debts" he racked up, the lighter he felt.
Besides, wasn't this just a jealous girl's helpless fury?
Suddenly, Yoshinon—the rabbit hand puppet—let out a cackling laugh.
"Ahaha! Looks like Shuo's finally showing his true colors!"
Yoshino, cheeks burning, ducked her head. She might look innocent, but there was a veteran's blush on her face.
Was he really that hungry? Well, Yoshino was technically a legal loli, after all…
Kurumi's eyes sparkled with mischief.
"My, my, Shuo-chan, you really are naughty—playing a threesome with Tohka and Origami."
She leaned in, voice sultry.
"If you want, I can send a clone or two to keep you company. Or maybe Sawa and I together?"
"Kurumi! Wh-what are you saying?!" Sawa, Kurumi's friend, was first shocked, then mortified.
What do you mean 'me too'? You want to throw yourself at him and drag me down with you?
But then again… her best friend finally had a guy she liked, and such a great one at that. If only she could have someone like that too…
No, no, what was she thinking? This was her friend's man! She couldn't possibly…
Watching Sawa shake her head furiously, Shuo nearly burst out laughing.
"Relax, Kurumi. You're all my wings—I'll always love you all."
With that shameless line, Shuo's mouth curled into a wicked smile. He reached out and pulled Kotori into his arms.
"And of course, that includes my dearest little Kotori."
"Ugh! When did I ever become yours? Don't say weird things, and let go of me, you perverted lolicon!" Kotori huffed, struggling in classic tsundere fashion.
"Heh, you've got good taste, kid." Nia chimed in, puffing out her unimpressive chest with pride.
Shuo snorted. "Please, Nia, your figure and looks are nothing special. At best, you're an underdeveloped wing. But don't worry—I'd never hold it against you!"
"Wha—underdeveloped?!" Nia, wounded, dropped her beer and threw herself into Reine's arms.
"Waaah! Reine-chan, he broke my heart. I need a hug!"
Reine, now covered in Nia's tears and snot, could only sigh in silent regret. Why had she ever given the Second Spirit Crystal to such a hopeless otaku?
Everyone watched Nia's over-the-top dramatics, equal parts exasperated and amused.
With the show over and nothing pressing that afternoon, Shuo clapped his hands.
"Alright, let's hit the mall! We need to get ready for the school trip."
