"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 223: Swimsuit Shopping Girls, and a Chance Encounter with Miku
After getting ready, Shuo glanced at Kotori and Yoshino, pausing just long enough to let the question settle.
"Hey, Kotori, the school's heading to Orumi Island for a field trip in two days. Got any plans?"
Kotori shrugged. "School's on break. Nothing lined up."
"In that case, why don't you bring Yoshino and Nia along and join us on Orumi?"
"Why?"
Kotori, Yoshino, and Nia all turned to him, curiosity written across their faces. Clearly, none of them had worked out his angle.
Shuo just sighed, half-exasperated, half-amused.
"Everyone who can cook will be gone. Who's going to take care of you? You want Nia—the kitchen disaster—to drag you and Yoshino out for takeout every day?"
He paused, then added, deadpan:
"Or, you could try Nia's home cooking."
A heavy silence fell.
Kotori and Yoshino both shot Nia a look—equal parts terror and disbelief. Their faces went pale.
"Forget it… I'd rather eat takeout than risk Nia's cooking. Yoshino, we're going with them, end of story!"
"Mm! Mm!" Yoshino nodded furiously, pure survival instinct on display.
It was no joke: last time Nia boiled an egg, she nearly transformed it into a science experiment gone wrong. Her attempt at fried rice had so much oil, it was basically a hazardous spill.
"Hey, hey! Don't look at me like that—it was just a little mistake…" Nia protested, but the judgment in everyone's eyes only deepened.
A "mistake"? More like a culinary crime.
Soon after, the group finished getting ready and made their way to Tenguu City's largest shopping mall. With the beach trip coming up, the girls were determined to pick out the perfect swimsuits. Shuo, not wanting to play favorites, made sure Origami was invited too—she was family now, after all.
"Welcome to—"
The greeter at the mall entrance stopped mid-sentence, eyes wide. A guy strolled in, holding hands with two girls, followed by a parade of beautiful young women. The poor employee took a psychic hit straight to the heart.
Shuo ignored the shell-shocked single, whistling as he led the group toward the swimwear shop. Along the way, every guy who caught sight of them was struck by a wave of envy and existential despair.
Why him? Why did he get all the gorgeous girls? Meanwhile, they hadn't even held a girl's hand.
Born human—what a cosmic joke.
Inside the women's boutique, Kurumi, Origami, Tohka, and the others split up to browse swimsuits. With summer vacation around the corner, the racks were overflowing with the latest designs—every color, every style, every level of boldness.
Bikinis, one-pieces with daring slits, skirted suits, even V-cut swimsuits that were little more than a suggestion—everywhere you looked, mannequins and display tables were draped in temptation.
To top it off, the store's salesgirls were modeling the newest, sexiest styles themselves, turning the shop into a living catalogue.
For any guy, this would be paradise—except Shuo knew better than to step foot inside. He valued his social life too much to risk that kind of death.
"Hey, Tohka-chan, I bet this swimsuit would look amazing on you."
Nia's grin was pure mischief as she picked up a purple V-cut bikini that was basically just two strings.
Tohka's eyes went wide. Her cheeks blazed red.
"Wha—Nia! I can't wear something that indecent!"
Nia just shrugged, holding the swimsuit up for inspection.
"Why not? You've got the figure for it. I'm telling you, you'd look incredible."
She unfurled the "swimsuit"—if you could call it that.
"And if you wore this, our dear Shuo would be completely hypnotized."
Tohka hesitated, actually wavering.
"Really? You think Shuo would… like it?"
If it was for Shuo… well, maybe…
Kotori, unable to watch anymore, swooped in.
"Quit it, Nia! Stop tricking Tohka."
Even Kotori's cheeks were tinged pink as she snatched the swimsuit away and glared.
"Don't listen to her, Tohka. I promise, that scumbag would love you in any swimsuit!"
"Okay… I get it."
Tohka snapped back to her senses, mortified at the thought of modeling that for Shuo.
Meanwhile, outside the shop, Shuo slouched in a lounge chair, idly scrolling his phone. His mind, however, was elsewhere—imagining Kurumi, Tohka, and Origami in all sorts of swimwear.
Ever since Kotori had dragged him to a swimsuit fashion show (and promptly sworn never to do it again), he'd been banned from "helping" with swimsuit shopping.
Still… what would they pick this time?
Clack!
A sudden noise on the table snapped him out of his daydream. He looked up, expecting Tohka or one of the girls.
Instead, he found himself staring at a slender girl in a black baseball cap, oversized sunglasses, and a black mask. Long, silvery-purple hair spilled over her shoulders.
That kind of incognito getup, plus the unmistakable hair—
"Miku? Long time no see. What brings you here?"
Miku giggled, voice bright and playful.
"Knew I couldn't fool you, Darling! Even with this disguise, you spotted me right away."
With a flourish, she dropped the act, plopped down beside him, and peeled off her mask and glasses.
