In the depths of space, a golden figure streaked through the void at lightspeed. Planets blurred past in the distance, and even interstellar ships were left far behind as the figure surged forward.
Whoosh!
It was Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers. Her body flared with golden energy as she entered her Binary Mode, and her speed continued to soar. Carol hadn't mutated or transformed through experimentation—she had become what she was by absorbing part of the Space Stone's immense energy.
Boom!
There was no sound in the vacuum of space, but waves of radiant golden energy rippled around her like shockwaves, distorting the starlight. Captain Marvel came to a halt before an enormous planet looming ahead.
It wasn't that Carol didn't care about the safety of Earth—on the contrary, this planet's existence was so terrifying that even she felt compelled to keep her distance.
The planet was strange. From afar, it looked massive—several times larger than Earth. Yet, as Carol drew closer, its size seemed to shift, appearing no larger than Earth's moon.
But it wasn't its size that chilled her blood.
What truly disturbed her was the face.
The entire surface of the planet was shaped into a colossal humanoid visage. Gigantic tentacles sprouted beneath its mouth, writhing through the void in eerie silence. The sight was monstrous, alien, and alive.
Whoosh.
The planet's eyes suddenly opened. Two enormous, crimson pupils flared to life, bathing the surrounding stars in their glow. The vast tentacles beneath its mouth stirred, and an overwhelming cosmic presence washed through space, making even Captain Marvel instinctively lower her head.
"Under the crown of the great and mighty god Ego, your glory illuminates the universe. I, the humble Earthling Carol Danvers, offer you my greetings."
Though she was among the strongest beings in the universe, even Carol bowed before the power radiating from Ego the Living Planet. His strength was immense, his wisdom ancient, and his presence divine.
Ego was one of the few true cosmic gods. His very body was a living planet, existing for millions of years, a being of unimaginable power and consciousness.
Even Thanos, without the Infinity Stones, would have been devoured by Ego without leaving a trace.
"An Earthling…?" Ego's rumbling voice echoed across the stars. "Ah, yes. I remember visiting that backward planet decades ago."
The planet's mouth opened, revealing rows of jagged fangs that glimmered with cosmic light. His voice carried both age and authority as he projected a beam of energy before him.
Within the projection, a hologram of a middle-aged Earthman materialized, facing Carol.
"I can sense the energy within you," Ego said, his tone turning predatory. "Such power… You've come to me as the perfect meal."
A gleam of greed flickered in Ego's vast eyes. The energy flowing through Carol's body was enormous—exactly the kind of cosmic sustenance that could help him grow stronger.
Carol lifted her chin, her expression calm but defiant. "Your Majesty, mighty Ego—my strength may not rival yours, but if I wish to escape, even you won't be able to stop me."
Having absorbed the Space Stone's power, she was supremely confident in her speed. No one in the universe could match her flight through space.
Ego's eyes glowed brighter as his projection studied her energy signature. Having lived for eons, he instantly recognized the unique aura of the Space Stone.
"Hmph. You dare to intrude upon my domain uninvited?" Ego scoffed. "What are you planning, little insect?"
Despite his disdain, Ego's interest quickly waned. As powerful as he was, interstellar travel at warp speed drained enormous amounts of his energy. The effort to consume Carol wasn't worth it.
"Lord Ego," Carol said evenly, "I've come to request your aid. I need to reach Earth as quickly as possible."
Ego's massive eyes narrowed.
"To show my sincerity," Carol continued, "once I arrive, I'll tell you the current location of your heir on Earth."
Her words made Ego's vast planetary form tremble with excitement. His eyes flickered between suspicion and hunger—but his ancient wisdom assured him Carol wasn't lying.
"Deal," Ego said. "And don't bother carrying any of my seeds with you. I'll send one myself."
A massive hand of pure energy formed from the planet's surface, holding a radiant, multicolored seed.
It was one of Ego's life seeds—a piece of his essence that could burrow into a planet, absorb its energy, and slowly consume it from within.
Without hesitation, Captain Marvel took the seed. Bargaining with a being like Ego was pointless—refusal meant death.
Boom!
Ego's projection transformed into a swirling cosmic vortex, distorting the surrounding space into a tunnel of light. It was a wormhole—Ego's personal gateway through the cosmos.
"This passage connects to Earth," Ego said, his immense voice echoing like thunder. "It's old and unstable, but it will take you there instantly."
His planetary face twisted into what might have been a smile—or something darker. Carol sensed the hidden excitement in his tone but chose not to question it.
"Then, great Ego," she replied solemnly, "once I've resolved the crisis on Earth, I will fulfill my promise."
With that, Captain Marvel shot forward, plunging into the swirling tunnel and vanishing into its depths.
"Ah… Earth," Ego murmured. "Such a wonderful world. This time, I will not be alone."
His massive form pulsed, expanding and contracting with emotion. The once-barren surface of his planetary body began to blossom into lush, garden-like terrain filled with countless energy avatars—extensions of his will.
Boom!
On Earth, in the state of Minnesota, a rift opened in the night sky. A streak of golden light burst forth, then vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Plop.
A glowing seed fell to the ground below, embedding itself in the soil before rapidly taking root and sprouting.
"Damn it, Ego…" Carol hissed as she streaked through the atmosphere toward New York. Her expression was grim. "He's more cunning than I thought. He still has an avatar hidden here."
She had planned to seal Ego's influence once she arrived, but it was too late.
On Earth, Ego's seed had already been drawn to his surviving avatar—burrowing deep into the planet's heart.
