Chapter 86 - A Peaceful Life and Tony Stark’s Crisis

Some time had passed since the battles with the Abomination and the Big-Headed Monster.

The area where the fight took place had already been cordoned off and was now under repair and reconstruction, organized by the city authorities. Meng Ran didn't know exactly who was footing the bill, but he could more or less guess—the military would have to shoulder a large part of the responsibility this time.

After all, Abomination was created from their star soldier, Blonsky. There was no escaping this massive black pot of blame—General Ross was going to have to carry it.

Meanwhile, the members of the Hexagram Alliance had returned to their peaceful daily routines.

Their activity patterns were simple: home → school → home → base → various New York districts → home. Their daily lives revolved around attending classes, going home, training at the base, and fighting crime.

Under the watchful protection of the Hexagram Alliance, New York City had transformed into a metropolis with excellent public safety. Crime rates dropped day by day, giving Meng Ran and his friends more and more free time.

They used that time to continue their regular training. Everyone's strength was steadily improving—even Harry had made noticeable progress.

Although it was a bit painful to admit, Harry was indeed the weakest member of the Hexagram Alliance.

His physical capabilities, after being enhanced to their peak, were even stronger than Captain America's, but his actual combat experience was woefully lacking.

The reason Captain America could stand toe-to-toe with almost anyone was because of his rich battlefield experience.

So even though Harry's body surpassed Steve's, when it came to an actual fight, he might not even be able to beat him.

Still, after all this time training, Harry's abilities had grown considerably.

They were all still young and smart, and with scientific, systematic training—and excellent physical foundations—their growth was fast and steady.

Meng Ran, after this period of rest, had finally regained his full strength. When Venom forcibly bonded with the Hulk, Meng Ran entered a weakened state, only able to exert about 70% of his power.

Now that Venom had fully recovered from that exhaustion, Meng Ran's combat strength had returned to peak condition.

That morning, Meng Ran and his family were having breakfast while watching the news.

On TV, the host was summarizing the day's top stories.

"It's now 8:55 a.m. According to the announcement from Washington, this morning at 9 o'clock sharp, Iron Man Tony Stark will be attending a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing."

"Let's look forward to what unfolds. With the meeting starting soon, we now switch to the live broadcast from Washington."

The television screen cut to the Senate chamber, already packed with people. Tony Stark sat at the front speaker's table, whispering something to Pepper Potts.

"Mr. Stark, let's begin today's agenda," said a chubby white senator at the podium, tapping his gavel.

Tony, however, continued chatting with Pepper as if he hadn't heard a word.

"Mr. Stark, would you please pay attention to what I'm saying?" the senator raised his voice.

"Oh! Of course, darling," Tony replied teasingly into the microphone.

Laughter rippled through the hall—and even Meng Ran's family watching at home couldn't help but laugh.

The hearing continued. The senator ignored the laughter and asked seriously,"Mr. Stark, do you possess a special weapon?"

"No." Tony's answer was firm.

"You don't?" The senator blinked in disbelief, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

"I don't."

"Well, that depends on what you define as a weapon," Tony added calmly.

The senator leaned back in his chair, then smiled faintly. "Iron Man counts as a weapon."

"The device I created is not a weapon," Tony replied, sitting up straighter.

"Oh? Then how would you describe your… device?" the senator pressed.

"It is what it is, Senator."

"For example?"

"It's a high-tech prosthesis," Tony said flatly. "That's the best description I can think of."

The audience burst into laughter again. A prosthesis? For them, that was the funniest thing they'd heard all year.

"It is a weapon, Mr. Stark," the senator said coldly. "I think it's in the best interest of the people that the Iron Man armor be handed over to us."

His tone was no longer polite—it was the language of authority and coercion.

Tony, however, matched him with equal firmness.

"Forget it. I am Iron Man. The suit and I are one."

"Handing over Iron Man would be handing over myself."

"That would be forced labor—or prostitution, depending on the state," he quipped, earning another round of laughter from the audience.

"I'm not giving it to you."

The senator, frustrated by Tony's irreverence, switched tactics. "We've invited a weapons expert to testify. Please welcome Justin Hammer, the Department of Defense's primary arms contractor."

Tony grinned. "Oh, sorry. I do see Hammer walking in—but where's the weapons expert?"

The jab landed perfectly, drawing laughter again.

Hammer forced a stiff smile and took the microphone, launching into a pompous speech attacking Tony and his technology.

Tony, unimpressed, simply closed his eyes and sighed, as if enduring a clown show.

When Hammer finally finished, the senator called Colonel Rhodes to read a few statements critical of Tony—clearly trying to pressure him into surrendering the armor.

But Tony Stark wouldn't be Tony Stark if he gave in that easily.

He hacked into the Senate's video system and played classified footage right there in the hearing room—footage that proved his point beyond doubt: the Iron Man technology was unique and irreplicable.

"There's only one Iron Man," Tony declared. "You want my tech? Forget it. But I can help in another way—because I alone can maintain world peace."

He raised his hands in a triumphant V-sign toward the cameras.

"What more do you want from me?"

"I tried cooperating with these clowns!" Tony shouted, gesturing toward the senators.

The chubby senator's face turned crimson as he slammed the microphone and shouted, "F*** you, Mr. Stark! F*** you!"

Tony didn't even bother responding—he simply mocked them further with gestures and remarks before striding confidently out of the chamber.

Watching the scene unfold, Meng Ran couldn't help but chuckle. "Classic Tony. No one hits government officials harder than you."

But then his expression turned thoughtful. "Still… your body should be starting to give you trouble by now."

Recalling the original storyline, Meng Ran knew that while this world had diverged in many ways, the general framework remained similar.

Iron Man had been flying around the world, enforcing peace—and the situation was now aligning eerily close to the events he remembered.

Which could only mean one thing: Tony Stark's next crisis was about to begin.
