Chapter 88 - The First Intern: Parker (2/4)

"What do you want to do?"

Before Tao Wen could even approach the old lady, an elderly man stepped protectively in front of her, his expression wary as he stared at Tao Wen.

"Uncle, Aunt, he's here for me! He's the one I told you about before—that gentleman!"

Peter Parker's voice carried a hint of excitement as he looked at Tao Wen. He hadn't expected Tao Wen to come looking for him, and in such a cool car no less.

"Really?"

The two elders exchanged surprised looks. Of course they had heard about Tao Wen and knew that he was the one who had saved Peter's life.

"I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you."

Peter's uncle apologized with a polite expression.

"Hello."

His aunt greeted Tao Wen curiously, her eyes flicking over the man's elegant suit and the luxurious car behind him.

Tao Wen smiled warmly. "You must be wondering who I am and what I do, right?"

He continued, "Actually, I'm Tony Stark's business partner. Together, we're contributing to society—developing all kinds of new machines and technologies. During my last conversation with Peter, I realized he has incredible potential. He could become an excellent scientist. So, I'd like to take him to our company as an intern employee."

"Really? That's wonderful!"

Peter's uncle's eyes lit up. As a born-and-raised New Yorker, he naturally knew how rich Tony Stark was. Stark Industries—one of the top three wealthiest corporations in the world.

And to think Peter had such talent—it made him genuinely proud. It was the best opportunity for Peter to learn and build a bright future.

Peter's aunt smiled as well. She'd always hoped that her nephew could excel someday, and hearing that he might work for Tony Stark's company made her both proud and relieved.

As for Tao Wen's identity—they had no doubts. After all, a Rolls-Royce wasn't something ordinary people could just drive.

"Peter, are you willing?" Tao Wen asked, turning his gaze toward him.

"Of course I am, sir!"

Peter's voice trembled slightly from excitement. As a high school freshman, he understood perfectly what kind of chance this was—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He'd be a fool to turn it down.

"Good. Then let's go. Say goodbye to your uncle and aunt."

Tao Wen smiled.

"Uncle, Aunt, I'm heading out!"

Peter waved to them.

"All right, come home for dinner tonight," his uncle and aunt both said warmly.

"Goodbye."

Tao Wen gave them a polite wave before stepping into the car.

"Wow, this car is so cool!"

Peter exclaimed the moment he sat inside. His eyes darted around curiously like an excited kid, touching everything he could.

Tao Wen simply smiled faintly.

"Peter, you actually don't have the talent to be a scientist," Tao Wen said suddenly.

"Huh?"

Peter froze. The excitement drained from his face instantly, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him.

Tao Wen's next words, however, made his eyes widen again.

"You have the potential to become a superhero."

"Sir, are you joking? How could I possibly have superhero potential? I'm just a completely ordinary guy."

Peter stared at him in disbelief. He knew perfectly well that Tao Wen himself was a superhero—a very powerful one at that.

He could still vividly recall the moment Tao Wen had stopped a speeding car with one palm, lifting it like a toy. That image was burned deeply into his memory.

But him, a superhero? Impossible. He'd tested himself before and found nothing special—just an average human being through and through.

"Peter, don't underestimate yourself. Yes, right now you're ordinary, but deep within your bloodline, within your genes, lies a unique superhero potential. Once it's awakened, you'll become a powerful being—a true superhero."

Tao Wen's tone was calm and sincere.

"Really?"

Peter's eyes flickered as thoughts of his missing parents surfaced. Though he'd long believed they were dead, he had always secretly imagined that they were still alive somewhere, maybe even superheroes themselves, fighting to protect the world.

"Really," Tao Wen said. "That special gene comes from your parents. They were brilliant scientists who developed a unique form of bio-technology—and that technology works only for you. Once it merges with your body, you'll become something great… a superhero who can use his power to help others."

"It really came from my parents?"

Peter's voice trembled with awe. He had always sensed there was something different about them—but to think it was true stunned him. "Then… where are they now?"

"That, I don't know," Tao Wen replied, his tone gentle. "But once you awaken your power, you'll have the strength to search for them yourself."

He didn't tell Peter the truth—that his parents had died in a plane crash. Peter was still too young, too fragile to handle such a blow. It was better for him to find the truth in his own time.

"Then… what kind of superhero will I become? Will I be strong and invulnerable like you? Or like Mr. Stark—able to fly through the sky? Or maybe like the Hulk—massive and powerful?"

Peter's eyes gleamed with excitement. After all, he was still a teenager at heart.

"You'll become something different," Tao Wen said. "A being as agile and fierce as Tarzan of the Apes—but with far greater speed and control. You'll be one of a kind."

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small box. "And your power will come from this."

Inside, a lively spider sat coiled, its multiple eyes glinting sharply as it fixed its gaze on Peter.

The creature's aura was fierce—predatory, almost primal.

"A spider!"

Peter yelped in fright. He had always been afraid of spiders—not just because of how creepy they looked, but because of how venomous they could be.

This one, in particular, looked deadly.

"Yes," Tao Wen said with a calm smile. "You'll gain the abilities of a spider. Don't worry—you won't turn into one."

He took out a pre-prepared document and handed it to Peter. "Before we begin, you'll need to sign this contract. From today onward, you'll officially be an intern at our company. Once your powers stabilize, you'll become a full-fledged superhero."

"Okay!"

Without hesitation, Peter signed his name. The spider still made him nervous, but the thought of gaining its power filled him with anticipation.

"Welcome aboard, intern."

Tao Wen extended his hand, and Peter shook it firmly.

"All right, let's begin. Relax—it won't hurt you."

Tao Wen opened the box and tilted it toward Peter.

Peter's heart pounded in his chest, his throat dry.

But just as the lid opened, the spider suddenly leaped—not toward Peter, but straight at Tao Wen!
