If Krypton was real, then this universe truly had a Kryptonian race.
Just one Superman was already so terrifying. If an entire planet of Kryptonians came to Earth, wouldn't Earth be utterly defenseless?
Aliens, all of them Supermen! What could Earthlings possibly use to fight back? Nuke the planet? If that happened, after the battle, Earthlings would have to consider moving, finding a new planet to live on.
