The queen led the four to a waterfall. "Karathen is inside the ruins beyond this. It guards the trident."
Aquaman coolly stepped forward, then noticed Lin Chen hadn't followed. He immediately turned with a grin. "Master, we can go now."
Mera grabbed Lin Chen. "Daoist, it's too dangerous. Karathen is a legendary creature."
D'Addario also tried to dissuade him. "Master, you've already helped Arthur a lot. This is extremely dangerous."
Noticing the strange looks from others, she quickly waved her hands. "I don't care about him! I'm just afraid if you die, I'll lose my job."
Lin Chen waved dismissively. "Since I'm here, I might as well see it."
He thought to himself, Isn't it just a giant crab-lobster hybrid? If it annoys me, I'll make braised lobster.
Helping Aquaman obtain the Golden Trident was a key step he didn't want to miss.
The queen sighed. "Behind a successful man, there must be support from at least two women. Arthur, work hard."
Aquaman was speechless. He didn't even have one, and his mom already wanted to assign him two.
The two passed through the waterfall and dove into the water. Before them lay ancient underwater ruins.
Dust coated the stone pillars thickly. The place felt lifeless—no fish, no crabs.
Lin Chen shook his head. "Karathen must be terribly hungry. It clearly doesn't understand sustainability."
Aquaman spotted the skeletal remains of the first King of Atlantis seated on a stone throne, the Golden Trident still in his grasp.
He quietly swam over, planning to grab it and retreat.
A massive shadow engulfed him. Huge tentacles pressed down.
A deep voice echoed through the water.
"I have guarded these final, bitter years. I have defeated countless false kings. I have witnessed many warriors—never one with blood as mixed as yours."
"You are not qualified."
Karathen's words were full of contempt.
Even clay figures have tempers—let alone Aquaman.
He charged at Karathen.
Bang! A tentacle smacked him away like a tennis ball, then slapped him repeatedly.
The force was overwhelming. Aquaman couldn't even tell which way was up.
"Master, help!"
Karathen paused. "Master? What is that? Can it be eaten?"
It hadn't eaten in ages—food was its first thought.
Lin Chen had already reached the throne. He hooked the Golden Trident into his hand and glanced at it. "Not bad. Poseidon's iron rod—though it looks more like scrap metal than gold."
Karathen roared. "Land-dweller! You dare touch the sacred trident?! Courting death!"
A tentacle lashed toward Lin Chen.
Lin Chen struck out with his palm. "Palm Thunder!"
Boom! Purple lightning blasted the tentacle, making it convulse violently.
"You bastard! You know lightning magic?!"
"Is that strange?" Lin Chen smiled, tossed the trident to Aquaman, and drew the Heavenly Master Sword.
"Five Thunders!"
BOOM!
Over twenty bolts of lightning struck Karathen. Having experienced core-earth lightning earlier, Lin Chen's thunder arts had grown much stronger.
Each bolt was as thick as a bucket.
Karathen's massive body twitched and writhed.
Only now did Lin Chen see its full form—brown armored shell, multiple tentacles, crab-like head, lobster-like body.
"Boy, your lightning hurts—but not enough. I only truly fear fire!" Karathen growled.
"Hey, I just wanted to drink and grill fish with you. Why make it hard?" Lin Chen shrugged.
Karathen laughed. "Now you're afraid? I'll eat you first!"
"Eat me?" Lin Chen shook his head and summoned Yanlong.
The flaming dragon roared. Though smaller than Karathen, its heat was immense. The surrounding seawater began to boil.
Karathen watched in horror as its tentacles reddened—like seafood cooking.
It even smelled… fragrant.
"Spare me, brother!" Karathen panicked and submitted before fully "cooking."
Lin Chen took out a bottle of Maotai. "I was just about to drink and eat seafood. You're done already?"
Karathen pleaded, "Brother, I haven't bathed in years. I'm dirty…"
Aquaman added, "Master, spare him. He's only been fulfilling his duty."
Lin Chen dispersed Yanlong. "Fine. We're short one heavy hitter. Want to come out and fight?"
Karathen brightened. "Boss, is there seafood to eat?"
Lin Chen: … Seafood wanting seafood—moral decline indeed.
"As long as you can fight, you'll be fed."
"Let's go!"
Karathen carried them out of the Dark Sea into Trench territory, devouring the remaining Trench monsters Lin Chen had slain earlier.
"Too little, boss! I'm starving!"
Lin Chen pointed ahead. "King Orm is invading the Brine Kingdom. We're going to stop the war—not eat seafood."
At the battlefield, marine creatures formed battle lines—mantis shrimp, giant crabs, hermit crabs.
The Crab King roared, "We will not submit to Atlantis! Kill!"
King Orm clashed with the Crab King, breaking his claw with a trident strike.
"Don't call me Your Majesty," Orm declared proudly. "Call me Ocean Lord!"
"'Ocean Lord'? Quite an imposing title." Lin Chen appeared with Mera and D'Addario.
"It's you!" Orm stepped back, recalling their last encounter. But seeing his army, he regained confidence.
"Lin Daoist, personal strength means nothing. Can you face my army?"
He raised his trident, glanced at Mera and D'Addario. "Kill the Daoist. Capture the women alive!"
Lin Chen shook his head. "Looks like I'll have to send my little brother."
"You have a little brother too?" Orm asked.
"Just one."
"One against my army? Hahaha—"
