{AURORA'S POV}
"Humans aren't the only ones who want you dead."
Her words hit me harder than I expected. For a moment, I just stared at her, trying to grasp what she just said. The air between us thickened, pressing against my chest until every breath felt heavier than the last.
"What?" I asked quietly. "What do you mean by that? Who else wants me dead?"
Scarlett didn't answer right away. She just looked at me, her expression unreadable. Then she said it. Just one word.
"Witches."
I stared in disbelief, stunned. The sound of it didn't make sense.
"Witches?" I repeated, shaking my head. "No—no, that doesn't make any sense. Why would witches want me dead? They're my kind. I—I'm nobody. I'm just a girl from a small village in the north. What could possibly be so special about me?"
