The steak had just been finished when Li Qingyuan noticed two sneaky figures quietly making their way toward the spot where he had stuck a note.
The werewolves were clearly desperate now.
Wait, no—Their eyes were already red to begin with, so that one doesn't count!
Unlike the vampires, who had always ruled as overlords of the dark world, werewolves had long been nothing more than their slaves.
Because the progenitor of werewolves, William, was a madman, the curse he spread left most of his descendants mentally unstable. For countless years, they lived under the vampires' oppression.
Later, they finally had a somewhat normal leader—Lucian. But the man had to go and fall in love with Viktor's daughter, Sonja.
And then Viktor, that lunatic, instead of simply solving things with a political marriage, turned it into a bloody catastrophe between two entire races.
Viktor personally killed his own daughter right before Lucian's eyes!
And as everyone knows—Once someone kills the protagonist's beloved right in front of him, no matter how powerful he is, he's doomed. Viktor was no exception.
Lucian, driven into a berserk rage, smashed Viktor into a near-death state. If he hadn't been too emotional to double-check whether Viktor was truly dead, the heroine of that story probably wouldn't have survived to appear later.
Before Sonja's death, Lucian had been… let's just say, a bit slow on the uptake. But once she died, he instantly awakened to his life's purpose:
"Werewolves shall never again be slaves!"
He led his kind in a fierce war against the vampires, only to perish in the final battle.
At least—that's the official story.
In truth, the whole thing was staged by Lucian and the vampire commander Kraven!
Lucian needed to "die" publicly to make Viktor and the vampires drop their guard, giving him time to rebuild the werewolves' strength in secret. And Kraven wanted power—what could be a greater accomplishment than personally killing the werewolf leader?
The two struck a deal. Under Kraven's cover, the werewolves went underground, hiding right under the vampires' noses.
But after six hundred years of hiding in the sewers, the werewolves had had enough. Why should the vampires live in luxury while they scrounged in the filth, hunted down by Death Dealers every time they dared step outside for air?
Lucian was their leader, but even he couldn't ignore the will of his entire race. After learning about Alexander Corvinus, he became convinced that if they could find a direct descendant of Corvinus, they could neutralize the bloodline repulsion between vampires and werewolves.
The problem was… Alexander Corvinus lived over a thousand years ago. Finding his direct descendant was like fishing for a needle in the ocean.
Lucian nearly rounded up every person in Hungary with the surname Corvinus.
And strangely enough, despite such a targeted manhunt, there hadn't been a single mention of it on the news. Who knew how many shady deals were being buried behind the scenes?
"Something's off about this blood…"
The two werewolves who found the note glanced around warily. Seeing no one suspicious, they quickly tore the note off the wall and shoved it into a pocket.
One of them even extended his tongue and gave it a lick. The moment the taste of that faint, refreshing flavor hit his mouth, his entire body trembled as if he'd just taken a hit of pure adrenaline.
"Michael is the one the boss has been looking for!"
After a moment, the werewolf who had licked the blood calmed down enough to speak, his voice trembling with excitement.
Six hundred years—six hundred years of living like dogs in the sewers! At last, there was hope of turning things around!
According to their scientist Kaan's calculations, if they could find Corvinus's direct bloodline and combine it with the blood of one of the Vampire Elders, their leader Lucian would become the most powerful creature on Earth.
(Seriously, what was going on in these werewolves' heads?)In an age of doomsday weapons, they could've just grabbed a few high-tech arms and been done with it. But no—they insisted on winning through "bloodline evolution."Utterly incomprehensible.
Still, whatever. They were the enemy—the dumber, the better!
The two werewolves, clutching the note, quickly left the area and used their clumsy methods to try to throw off any pursuers.
They ran around the city for over half an hour, convinced they'd lost anyone tailing them. Only then did they stop at a remote corner, open a manhole cover, and climb down.
"Boss, we found this note near Michael's place!" one of them reported eagerly, pulling the note from his coat.
"The other party wants us to go to the dam at midnight?" Lucian read aloud, frowning slightly.
He tossed the note aside and asked, puzzled,"How are you sure this is the person we're looking for?"
The note was vague—no names, no context—just a time and a location. So Lucian couldn't understand why his men were so sure it was meant for them.
"Boss, there was blood on it! I licked some, and my strength immediately rose by ten percent!" the other werewolf exclaimed, clenching his fists and showing off his newfound power.
(Seriously? Who the hell just licks random blood? These guys…)
"Blood?"
Lucian finally took a closer look. Indeed, there were faint stains on the note. He hadn't noticed earlier—the sewer was too dim, and he'd only glanced at it briefly.
But when he looked again, he noticed something else: a small, strange smear.
And when he focused, he realized that the smear wasn't just a stain—it was a crushed mosquito.
The letters were large, and the blood had drawn most of the attention, so the dead insect had gone completely unnoticed by his two dim-witted subordinates.
"Not good!"
Lucian's body jolted like he'd been electrocuted. He instantly tossed the note away and transformed into his werewolf form.
As the saying goes: Once bitten by a snake, fear the rope for ten years.
Last night, when he was showing off at Michael's apartment, he'd been ambushed—almost killed on the spot.At the time, he'd been too enraged to pay attention to what exactly attacked him.But when he calmed down the next morning and thought carefully, he realized… the thing that had attacked him seemed to be a mosquito?!
Lucian might be the leader of the werewolves, but that also meant his danger sense was among the sharpest in the world. If not for his emotional state and the enemy's utterly bizarre attack method, there's no way he would've been caught off guard like that.
