"Boss?"
A group of werewolf underlings looked at Lucien with puzzled faces. They couldn't understand what was going on with their leader.
It was just a piece of paper — why was the boss holding it like it was a live grenade?
Besides, they were werewolves!
Even if it were a bomb, unless it was a massive one, it'd be hard to actually kill them. There was no need for the boss to be that cautious.
"Phew!"
When the slip of paper didn't explode like he'd imagined, Lucien realized he might have overreacted.
That thing that hit him yesterday — that was a live mosquito. The mosquito on this paper was just a mangled corpse. Totally different.
And really, in a sewer full of flies and mosquitoes, he'd lived here for years and had never seen any mosquito that exploded.
Maybe he remembered wrong — what attacked him yesterday wasn't a mosquito, but a mosquito-shaped micro-bomb?
"Karn, check this paper carefully. See if there's anything strange about it — especially the mosquito," Lucien ordered, handing the note to his top werewolf scientist.
"Everyone, increase alert level. Report anything unusual to me immediately!"
Lucien hadn't led the werewolves in hiding under the vampires' noses for six hundred years by being careless.
"Boss, what's the plan for tonight?" one of the werewolves finally asked after Lucien finished giving orders.
The problem was, compared to vampires, werewolves as a species weren't exactly known for their brains. Aside from a few genetic mutations, most of them weren't much smarter than huskies.
That's why the vampires had long since switched to using firearms, while the werewolves still relied on brute strength to fight.
Even if they did carry guns, the moment a battle broke out they'd tear off their clothes and go berserk, completely forgetting to even pull the trigger.
"You take a team to the train station. I'll lead the group heading to the dam. The rest — prepare the defenses!" Lucien said after thinking for a moment.
The train station wasn't a big problem. Their target tonight was Amelia — one of the Vampire Council's three Elders — but that woman was a ranged specialist. Her close combat ability was pathetic.
With an inside man's help, she wouldn't stand a chance in the cramped space of a train car — not even against ordinary werewolves.
Amelia knew her weakness, which was why she'd sent scouts ahead before coming herself, to ensure everything was safe.
Unfortunately, she had no idea that the man in charge of the Coven was actually a werewolf mole. The moment she arrived — she was done for.
Even though Michael had been kidnapped last night, and this mysterious note reeked of conspiracy, Lucien couldn't afford to miss this once-in-three-centuries chance to eliminate Amelia.
As he was still arranging his men to move out, Li Qingyuan had already traced the mosquito corpse's signal — arriving right above the werewolf base.
He'd tossed that paper just to test things, but to his surprise, those two dimwitted werewolves actually took it all the way back to their headquarters without even looking at it.
Sure, they'd been running through the city like a couple of unleashed dogs all day — but who in their right mind would tail someone that closely these days?
With those two husky-brained idiots, even if he'd slapped a tracking device on their foreheads, they probably wouldn't have noticed.
After sending down a few flies to scout, Li Qingyuan quickly got a clear picture of the situation below.
The werewolf base was buried more than ten meters underground. Even if someone fired a gun down there, the surface wouldn't hear a sound — no wonder they'd gone unnoticed for so long.
Not to mention, the labyrinthine sewers, narrow tunnels, and complex terrain made it perfect for werewolves.
Firearms weren't very practical in that environment — their physical strength was far more reliable.
Of course, there was no way Li Qingyuan was going to charge into the sewers and brawl with them.
He wasn't an idiot. That'd be suicide.
So —
After scouting out all the sewer exits within range, he finally smiled in satisfaction.
"Those I called by name, come with me!" Lucien was mobilizing his troops to head for the dam when — clank! — something fell from the sewer shaft above.
"Who the hell just threw trash in here?! Don't they know you're supposed to sort your garbage?" one werewolf shouted angrily.
Sure, they lived in the sewers — but that didn't mean civilians could just throw anything they wanted down here!
Honestly, if Lucien hadn't ordered them to stay calm over trivial things, Budapest would probably see dozens of "mysterious decapitation cases" every year just from littering.
"Wait—no! Take cover!"
The underlings didn't sense any danger — but Lucien, as the leader, instantly realized something was wrong.
He'd seen the shape of that thing when it fell.
A perfect miniature missile!
BOOM—! BOOM—! BOOM—!
A series of deafening explosions echoed underground. The ground above split open like a cracked eggshell, and entire buildings twisted and collapsed with a thunderous crash.
When Budapest's sewers were first built, they'd been done with real craftsmanship — even after centuries of werewolf sabotage, the structure had held.
But no matter how sturdy a sewer was, it couldn't withstand missile strikes.
These were Rattlesnake missiles — heavy military ordnance designed to obliterate fortified Middle Eastern bunkers. Using them on a sewer was pure overkill.
And Li Qingyuan had dropped more than twenty of them.
After all, compared to vampires, werewolves had far tougher bodies — using just a few wouldn't guarantee kills.
The massive detonations triggered a shallow earthquake. Buildings toppled, the ground sank several meters — chaos everywhere.
No matter how strong a werewolf's regenerative power, against this kind of cataclysmic force, they were helpless.
Tens of thousands of tons of concrete and steel came crashing down at once. Forget werewolves — even the Monkey King himself would be seeing stars.
And if any of them somehow survived… Li Qingyuan figured they'd be wishing they hadn't.
