Chapter 56 - Last Fight

Pov: Eira

Running in the halls, I looked for the way to the rooftop. Finally reaching the end of one of the halls, I see light peering in from one of the ceilings as the ladder extended up into it.

Letting out a breath, I made my way up it.

'Come on, come on!' I thought, my heart racing.

As the wind hit my face while I was getting onto the roof, I saw them all fighting the beast. Before realizing it, they all get pushed back by some force. My heart tightened.

Quickly calling out my sniper, my breathing grew chaotic. Finding it hard to aim, I clenched my jaw.

'Calm down.' I thought.

When I took a deep breath in, I tried once more. My aim was calmer than before. Setting my scope on the bell, I pulled the trigger.

*Dong Dong Dong*

The beast let out another roar. It turned towards to look at the beast and saw it run into the tower. The tower shook more than before, cracking down. A piece of it fell to the ground, making the queue a chaotic mess.

Knowing this wasn't enough, I shot the bell once more. It hit the tower.

'One more time.'

*Dong Dong Dong*

The beast didn't stop and hit the tower once more. When it did, the tower finally gave in and slowly fell.

The sky above us turned white, as if a dome was placed surrounding us.

"It's—It's down!" I yelled out.

Pov: Eirian

The tower fell, as dust surrounded the area. My breathing grew as I waited to see a sign of the veil falling. Looking up, I could see the sky wanting to crack as it turned white. I cracked a smile.

Before I could celebrate, a grunt was heard from the center of the quad. Dust lifted, and from the rubble came the beast. Upon seeing it, my eyebrows furrowed—It looked different. Its body looked deformed and now stood on two legs. Its right arm seemed bigger than its left, while the face of the moose peeled.

I grimaced at the sight of the beast as I clenched my knife. My eyes wandered as I looked for the others, but I didn't find any.

Activating light's edge, I got ready for it. As it moved towards me, I could see the ground crack beneath its pressure.

'What happened?' I thought. When I did, I remember something, when the veil was to fall, a huge outburst of numen was released. It acted like a power up for the beast corrupting it to further measures than before.

Clenching my knife, it walked towards me, but before it could reach me, another shot rang out as the other came from the dust behind the beast. The beast's head turned from the shot as Ael formed spears in the form of needles impaling its right knee, while Amiel grabbed its left foot to keep it in place.

"Eirian, help!" Ael yelled.

Realizing the situation, I lunged towards the beast, and when I did, the beast reached out trying to grab me. Before he could, another shot rang as I pivoted my body away from him. Glancing behind me, I saw Eira; she was covering me from behind.

Climbing the hand, I ran on top of him, kicking him in the jaw. Ael persisted and tied new chains around his body.

Moving towards him to attack once more, mist started to emanate from its mouth as it broke from the chains made of blood. A blast of ice shoots everywhere, and I am forced to fall back and dodge it.

As I looked at Ael and Amiel, they seemed to have significantly weakened than before. Ael looked paler than before, and for Amiel, he was slowing down while more ice formed around his body.

Finally, when the beast calmed down, we all stood in front of it.

"Are both of you okay?" I asked.

Ael caught his breath, "I'm running out of blood."

I turned in confusion, "Huh? What do you mean?"

As he clenched his jaw, he replied, "The blood I use from my miracle is my own. I can only use a limited amount before passing out." He calmed for a moment, turning towards Amiel, "How about you, Amiel?" He stood a few inches taller than I remembered.

"My numen, I think it's running out."

"That can happen?" Ael questioned.

"When we first made our pact, Fey told us we are able to harness numen, it makes sense. Our miracles and abilities must use numen." I replied.

Amiel nodded, "I've been using my miracles and ability for about ten minutes now. I am almost tapped out."

"How much longer can you hold?" Ael asked.

"2 minutes... tops."

I clenched my hand.

"That's fine," Ael stated, getting into a fighting stance.

I stared at him as Amiel was now getting ready to go in once more. "Both of you guys are crazy," I replied. "One last fight." I gripped the knife tighter. "Fine."

Getting into a fighting stance, I waited to see what to do. Ael, dashing in, was now at its side. As the beast threw a punch, he wrapped the chain around it, pulling it down.

Amiel then appeared at his side, delivering blows to the beast's stomach as shots rang. The beast, not giving up, tried to grab the ground, destroying it, forcing the others to get out of the way.

Running around the beast, I sent in a few slashes, which only left small cuts on it. Dashing in, I let loose a barrage of attacks, but none do any real damage. Upon it reeling back its fist, I am forced to block it and get sent back.

Ael, seeing this, delivered a few blows to its arms. Amiel, who was slowly growing, moved in as more ice covered his arms. As he jumped on his knee using it as a footing, he then delivered a blow to the beast's face.

The beast, not knowing what to do, stammered and fell back.

Ael, mid-air and behind him, took one of the antlers, wrapped its chains around, and pulled as Amiel pushed his legs. The beast fell, slamming into the ground.

'This isn't enough,' I thought, looking for an opening, running around the beast. 'We are running out of time.'

The beast, not having any of it, mist apeared from its mouth once again.

"Ael! Amiel!" I yelled to tell them to get out of the way. His eyes turned to the glowing blue mist.

'Shit, shit, shit.'

Upon seeing this, he formed a few more chains and wrapped them around the beast's mouth, pulling on them. We could see the blast then erupt in his body.

Silence fell upon the quad.

'Is that it?' I thought as Ael's grip loosened.

"Finally—" Ael let out, but before he could finish, the beast's arm twitched.

Trying to recover from it, the moose tried to raise itself from the ground. Amiel, not giving a chance, ran in and slammed his hand down, proceeding to hold it in place. Ael's grip tightened on the beast.

The moose, trying to get out of the hold, gripped the ground with his other hand and was preparing to break the chains again.

"Eirian! Kill it!" Ael yelled.

Dashing in, I activated lights edge. The blade glowed a white light as I jumped in. Bring down my blade, I dragged it across its throat and decapitated the beast.
