"Goodbye," Gabe finally said aloud.
His voice was calm, almost polite, but there was something final about it.
Without waiting for a response, he turned his wheelchair and wheeled himself out of the room. The soft hum of the wheels against the floor echoed faintly as he left. Romeo didn't try to stop him. He didn't even call his name.
The moment Gabe was out in the hallway, he released a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping slightly as the tension he'd been holding in finally slipped free. His chest felt tight not from fear, but from suppressed irritation and exhaustion.
Alex was nowhere to be seen but then he doesn't care right now.
