"Are you sure you'll be alright in there by yourself?"
Dominic asked for what felt like the hundredth time.
I puffed out a breath, dragging my eyes away from the looming building ahead of us, the Wilsons' banquet hall—the same place my name had been dragged through the mud not too long ago.
I turned to him, offering a stiff nod as I smoothed the bodice of my dress again for the third or fourth time now.
"That doesn't look so reassuring." His voice was edged with concern. "I'll come in with you."
"No!"
The word shot out sharper than I intended, and my hand flew to his wrist before he could reach for the door.
Dominic stilled, one brow arched, his head slightly tilted as he studied me. His eyes scanned my face like he was trying to read a hidden message. I flushed under the weight of his gaze.
"Is there something you're planning to do in there that's not just about your sister?" His voice was calm, but the warning beneath it was unmistakable.
