HARPER
My breath hitched in my throat and I froze on the spot. Heat rushed instantly to my face as my eyes locked with his. I couldn't deny it, and I couldn't exactly say he was wrong either.
I just stood there, like an idiot in the middle of the room. When I finally found my voice, I managed to ask,
"How did you know?"
Julian scoffed. "I'm not stupid, Harper. I might be oblivious to a lot of things around you, but I'm not stupid."
"No, you're not," I agreed quietly. I had never once thought he was.
"Three years ago," he continued, "when we went to get gifts for the children on their second birthday."
I nodded, my mind drifting back to that day. I hadn't even seen Dominic, yet I'd reacted to his name alone and bolted. Maybe if I had actually seen him, noticed how much he'd changed in three years, things would have been different.
But why the hell would I even want to know that?
I rolled my eyes inwardly. I didn't care about that man. I really didn't.
