Arthur stood next to Gemma, chewing on some monster jerky, all relaxed not a worry in sight.
And as Gunlaug took his last breath, Tessai and Gemma stepped forward.
Only for Tessai to receive a sword through his back, immediately destruction blazed, and his whole body disintegrated into ashes. Gasps and shouts rang out, as the second in command of the hunters killed one of the lieutenants.
Gemma stood up, anger blooming in his heart.
"What is the meaning of this Arthur?!" He shouted confusion, anger, and betrayal, blazing in his mind and heart.
Arthur turned back to him, a slightly sad smile forming on his face.
"Sorry Gemma, I was never on your side to begin with, but surely with the death of Gublaug, you can see that we, all of us, can escape," Arthur said, his voice getting louder with each word. The castle guards bristled, and the hunters stood unsure which side to pick. The maidens, led by Seishan, were strangely calm.
Gemma scowled his mind racing.
Arthur continued prodding.
"You must see your once friend, was just a shell of his former self, only caring about himself.
He paused, taking a breath and letting Gemma think, then continued.
"And you surely know, you cannot defeat me, even with your impressive regeneration."
The standoff continued, and finally, after a few minutes, Gemma relented, kneeling down. Immediately, the hunters and pathfinders knelt with him.
Some castle guards surrendered, some did not.
Those who did not were knocked unconscious, locked in cells like animals.
This was the condition Arthur made for the dawn shard memory. All possible bloodshed would be avoided. With much verbal fighting, he managed to spare hundreds of lives, not that most would get to know that. Nephis made a condition as well.
Arthur did not trust her one bit, especially because of the blind seer, whispering into her ears every day and night. Arthur let out a sigh. Now, in his private quarters, the girl was such a meager thing in the academy, now she seemed more like a snake than a girl.
