Chapter 3 - Wake up

Every day of my life was meaningless.

The endless repetitive cycle of trying and failing made me realize that the only talent i had was to watch people who reached success from the sidelines.

I envied them for having so much talent and determination.

It may have been my fault for ending up like that, but it doesn't matter. Not anymore, at the very least.

The words spoken by God sparked something inside me.

Or perhaps it was the influence of the blue light that entered my body.

It felt like i became a different person but i couldn't pinpoint how exactly.

There was no reason for me to give up now, even when i start anew in somewhere far away from home. My goal was to repay god's grace for giving me a chance, so i had to try.

Atleast until it gets too hard.

'How long have I been here'

My body was drifting through an endless void, my limbs completely numb besides my head.

I could feel the darkness pressing against me, but it didn't crush me, it gently cradled my body moving me in a single direction with unnatural care. For hours i've been trying to look for some sort of exit however, the inky expanse was the only thing in this desolate space.

If i was going to another world, then what would happen to me? Would I be born as a newborn or am i going to take over someones body just like in these popular animes and novels?

I wasn't sure of that.

God said something about a vessel that has been prepared for me, I don't know what he meant by that, but it surely wasn't anything bad.

The last words he told me as I sunk into the darkness were, 'System' and 'Rift.'

From what i could picture, the rift would be what's the world I'm currently heading to called, but the other thing, the system.

'Did he mean it as the world's laws?'

My thoughts were countless. I kept on drifting through the space trying to piece together what my new life would look like when something finally appeared.

'Well That's underwhelming'

Right in front of me, seemingly out of nowhere, appeared an oak door.

Without any special effects or warning, it stood in my path making the darkness disperse.

'It's just asking to be opened.'

Thus i opened it.

When I saw the door, my body seemed to have regained its strength, giving me the ability to move and open it.

After pushing it open, a sudden gust of cold air struck past my eyes, I couldn't help but squint them as the temperature shifted from freezing cold to lukewarm, then boiling, and then back to cold. It slowly repeated the cycle while starting to circle my body pushing it inside the door.

The moment my body crossed the door's frame, water started to engulf me from all sides like a torrent. I tried to cover my face, but it was useless.

There was just too much of it going between my fingers and wrapping around my body. Soon after, I heard a loud bang from behind when the door closed.

'What the heck is going on?'

I wondered. Even though I was immersed in water, I could breathe freely.

The water slowly evaporated leaving a tiny layer of air between me and water which started to became as clear as glass.

'T-this place is!'

My body was hovering in the sky, in a big water bubble that left a trail of water drops in the air. It was the only thing keeping me from falling to my another death.

I gazed down at the immense city below me, it's lights flickering like enormous constellation's from the stars.

'What is that?'

Even though i was thousands of meters in the air, i could clearly make out people leading their lives like always. But there was something strange.

The city, or whatever it was. Didn't resemble anything i've seen in my previous life. Though, i didn't spend alot of time outside my hometown.

Every building was like a perfectly tailored sculpture, different from the neighbouring ones. It fit it's citizens who walked through the almost empty street's. I even noticed someone using magic!

My gaze viewed it like a piece of art, the imperfect style that brought comfort to those who owned it. As i was doing so, at the corner of my eye i noticed something strange, and realized what it was.

I was speechless.

Located in the middle of the big city, was a humongous rift almost cutting it in half. It's size so great that i didn't know what to compare it to, the first thing that came to my mind was the grand canyon but it was such a difference that i almost fell back.

People seemed to enter it like the most normal thing in the world, while wearing weird kind's of clothes and equipment.

Who could possibly be happy to go inside a place where even its bottom couldn't be seen.

'Im supposed to save this?'

Was he joking about that?

That was the only thing i thought of as i scrutinized it with a pale face.

I hadn't even noticed the water bubble driftingaway from the rift.

As i gaped beneath me, i noticed that i was now above a small wooden hut, away from the big city that was built around the rift.

The bubble started shaking before suddenly popping, i let out a short yelp as i fell towards the ground.

Laying on a small comfortable bed, there was nothing i wanted to change.

My world has been created by my one and only.

Even if thousands of years would have passed, i don't want to get rid of this feeling since the sincerity, dedication and loyalty toward's my master never faded away.

Even if i cry asking for him to come back, even if i look at the sky with a blade at my throat and try to take away my own life.

These shackles around my hands that have been placed upon me, will never rust.

The freedom and the love i have been seeking was the only thing that kept fueling my desires.

No matter how much time passes, i will never go away from the responsibility you have given me.

The world you have built just for us, the house you have made just for us, the decisions you have made.. just for us.

- Thud

A sound outside has drawn my attention, i made my way outside.

Throwing on some robes on my pale slim shoulders i opened the front door to see a young boy lying on the ground.

He didn't look older than twenty as he loomed around confused and lost.

His eyes landed on me, his mouth opened but no sound came out.

'So you've come to this.'

My hands rose, knitting a tapestry of strings in a clean flow, they guided the lost soul inside, after his initial confusion, he became rather tame after seeing me walk beside him.

'Maybe this time it will work.'

Guiding him through the house, we entered an old cramped room that hasn't been used for decades.

It had a small bed, a table and some bookshelfs that would satisfy basic needs.

On the bed, laid a big white cloth which i lifted up without hesitation.

The boys eyes shook as he watched from the side but i didn't mind that at all, it was even refreshing.

There, on the old bed laid a human body seemingly in pristine condition.

With short white hair and pale gold eyes that stared lifelessly at the ceiling, the body was well trained with nicely developed muscles and sculptured face.

Like that of a makeshift doll.

My hands pulled on the strings, moving the boys soul inside the body.

He seemed to dislike it quite a bit, he strarted thrashing around, trying to get away from the body. But i couldn't care less.

It was my duty.

Less than a few minutes passed, the boys soul had dissapeared from sight while the body started to regain some color.

Its eyes becoming full of life. Taking deep breaths, i realized sweat had formed around my hands.

'my time is coming sooner than i expected.'

I went back to my room for some rest, leaving the boy by himself.

'we're starting tomorrow'
