Chapter 4 - In a dead body.

'What was that'

Before coming to this world, i thought that i would have to start alone, from the beggining. But what i thought was the implication of his words, proved to be wrong.

Honestly, it was better this way.

After i met god, i already knew that i wasn't human anymore, just a remnant of my original soul.

What gnawed at my mind however, was the person who met me.

The woman in white robes.

She looked no older than me and yet, everything about her seemed.. refined. Like that of a genius who lived with grace.

The strange gestures she made with her hands, aswell as the force that pulled me into the dead body was like something from a movie.

Though they appeared pointless, i noticed small glint's of light, all around us. Between her fingers, tiny threads were coming out like spider silk, making a beautifull net that caught me.

'Is this what they call magic?'

I'l try to ask her about it.

For now, i had to figure out a way to wake up.

At first, i was horrified by the sight of someone's dead body that hid under the cloth. I didn't want someone to die for my sake, to waste a life just for someone like me.

Yet after i opened my eyes to this new world, i felt that this wasn't a real body.

I stood in some sort of ancient ruins, the crumbled walls and pillars seemed to be older than a century, with all the rust and moss that grew on it, it was obvious that no one ever cared about this place.

My body.. felt weird. A feeling of similarity with the empty ruins made my head ache.

'I have to wake up.'

This had to be the vessel which god mentioned, though it didn't resemble one from inside.

I navigated through the desolate ruins, going over masses of fallen pillars that were taller and wider than myself. The smell felt suffocating in here, or perhaps the entire atmosphere inside this empty body.

Maybe it was the lack of life, or people, that i quickened my step's in hopes of finding an exit or perhaps even a sign.

Turn after turn after turn, like an endless maze the walls started to appear more frequently, higher, taller, sturdier to the point where a simple push didn't make them fall down.

After what seemed to be a few minutes, i stopped. Taking sight of a new kind of ruin.

Unlike the old walls that circled around us, the thing seemed to be well kept, standing in one piece on some sort of pedestal.

It had a deep dark green color with smooth metal edges, almost like a box if not for a set of buttons on it's surface.

'Is this some sort of key?' I wondered.

Sure, it didn't look like a key even with your eyes squinted.

But maybe it was a way for me to finally get out of here.

I didn't hesitate before going up the broken pillars and turning the box to face me.

On it's side's were two sets of buttons, with a shape similar to that of a key from a keyboard. Green panel glowed faintly on the top of the device showing a simple picture of something being put inside a hole.

The hole from the picture was actually right below the panel on the empty side between both keyboards.

'I didn't even know that i needed to open this and now i have to find another key? Wait, maybe...'

Maybe i had to insert my finger inside it.

It honestly was a little obvious by the shape and size of the hole which wouldn't fit any key, though.. It was a world where ordinary things changed.

So the choice was simple, i just had to put the finger and pray something happens.

I picked the one with an engraved symbol and inserted it inside.

Second's passed, nothing seemed to change with the exception of a tiny tingle on it's tip.

No screens, no magic, not even a voice message.

'I guess i need to keep looking.'

If i couldn't access it now, then there must be some sort of key around here.

It being the size of a finger would make spotting it in this maze easier, although it's condition is the other thing.

After checking the box a few times in case i missed some hidden clue, i jumped off the pedestal and as i was regaining my footing.

- Ping

Some kind of sound came from the ceiling, it didn't make sense, there was nothing on there, just the darkness that had no end.

I waited for some sort of signal or another sound, while trying to spot something in the dark, another sound came from above.

'Something's there!'

Just as i came to a conclusion, the ceiling opened, revealing a panel that covered my entire vision.

With a light blue glow coming from it, sets of runes wrote themself in straight lines like some sort of code that followed the boxes clicking sound.

'Its so damn bright.'

"User ID required, please state your name."

An almost robotic like voice appeared out of nowhere.

'wait isn't that?'

I finally understood. Was this the system which god told me to listen to?

I didn't expect it to be a literal system, like in a computer or some kind of program.

'so state my name huh.'

- Vlad Mircea

.

.

'Uh, is this thing broken?'

Maybe the device got broken with the time it spent hiding here-

"User ID unregistered, preparing merging procedure. Do you consent? Yes/No."

'it really is just like a computer.'

The merging procedure.. was this what they decided to call being reborn?

"Yes."

Waiting awkwardly for it's next reply i couldn't help but wonder if i would ever have a body of my own.

My hands which were weak and used only for either games or minimum wage jobs.

My body which would crumble if i lifted something over 40kg.

And my face that barely held any resemblance to the one i would get.

'i wonder if im going to miss it.'

Probably not.

The voice hasn't spoken again but the symbol engraved on my hand has started to glow a shade of eerie red that reminded me of blood.

'yuck'

My body slowly started to disintegrate, turning into small pixel like particles.

'I guess it's time to wake up.'

.

.

.

.

My eyes snapped open.

An unfamiliar ceiling entered my view as i tried to lift my body awkwardly.

'did it work?'

I looked around to see the very room where the body was stored.

It seemed to be a simple bedroom with some bookshelfs, a desk and the bed i sat on.

The air seemed dirty, probably because of the dust that settled on everything here.

'They could atleast clean up.'

After trying to stand up with my shaky legs, i managed to figure something out.

I felt great.

No, i felt incredible.

Gazing down at my body, i could feel the muscles which were as hard as stone, moving along with my chest. I tried to move my chest muscles up and down but to no avail.

'That's so unfair.'

Brushing it off, i started to inspect various part's and aspects of this body.

The hair color was nice, a fresh shade of white that didn't cover my eyes, but i didn't really like to stand out so that's a problem.

I couldn't really check my eyes, but im sure i caught a glimpse of them being pale yellow, so that's weird too.

There wasn't a single person i knew that had white hair and yellow eyes simultaneously.

'That would make me stand out so much.'

I started to dislike it immediately.

'?'

At the corner of my eye i noticed something written on the door frame.

They were worn out but i could make them out somehow which was probably another feature of my new body.

They were some old marks for measuring height probably made by a family that lived here.

'It really Is old'

While trying to figure out what the marking's meant, a sharp pain pierced my head.

'Ugh!'

Myriad's of knowledge started to flood my brain, the language, the city, the people.

Everything i never heard of started to fuse with my memories making me feel as if i lived here before, as if i spent my previous years of life here.

The pain started to cease, my mind settling down after a minute of torment.

My body fell back on the bed, my shaking legs finally giving out.

'Atleast give me a warning!'

Anger surged within me but i calmed down, it wasn't god's fault that this happened, hopefully..

I took a deep breath, looking around the room for any set of clothes, my eyes stopping on a small pile that laid on a desk.

Slipping into them, it felt better than walking around butt-naked.

Supporting myself with the edge of my bed, i made my way to the door.

'I should probably meet the white lady.'
