Chapter 11 - Night Flyer

Ethan stands up straight and pushes Me away.

"Leave me alone! I'll will be fine," Ethan says, leaning against the wall right outside the bathroom. He sighs hard, finally relaxing a little after all the chaos.

I watch as he pulls a cigarette out of his leather jacket, lights it, and starts happily smoking. Seemingly, the cigarette helped keep his head from spinning.

"Just after 3 in the morning... and you're fully dressed?" Koi asked, noticing his clothes. Koi himself looked like he just rolled out of bed, because he did. He was standing there in a blue wife-beater and sleep pants with little cartoon characters on them.

"I got a date," Ethan answered, his French accent thick. Then he pulled off the wall and blew a smoke halo into the air.

"Wanna come...teammate?" The way he said teammate let Koi know he hated the idea of being stuck with him.

"Why the hell would you want me to come along on your date?" Koi twisted his face in disgust.

"Come on, it'll be fun. She won't mind, I promise." Ethan chuckles. "Bring dumb-dumb along too."

"Adam? He's in no position to go on a 'date'. Best thing to do is let him sleep and let those black pills do their work." Koi explained.

"Those pills are anti-psychotics. I know them. We probably don't want to deal with Adam until those pills have had enough time to take effect." Koi knew this mainly because he had had a similar prescription, except Adams' dosage was even stronger than his, which meant Adams might be crazier than him. A little pang of jealousy hit Koi at that thought.

"He needs to rest for a while."

"He'll be fine, come on!" Ethan said, talking around his cigarette. "Let's bring him. I want to get his opinion on something."

I raised my eyebrow at that, thought about it a moment, and shook my head.

"Remember what Diaz said? If one of us destroys something, we all go down. We need to clean up Adam's mess before morning, or we're done for!"

"Don't worry...about it," a voice suddenly sounded from the bathroom. Before I could poke my head into the bathroom to check on Adam, the door to his dorm room opened, and a bunch of little machines started rolling out. The lead one looked like a little red car, and it zipped by into the bathroom carrying cleaning supplies.

The clean mobile was followed by some silver rolling balls that rolled themselves into the bathroom, and then Koi watched them sprout little metal legs like a spider, and its bottom half transform into a scrub brush.

These began climbing up the walls, scrubbing them with suction cup feet and removing all trace of blood and gore from the site.

Adam was trying to pull himself up to his feet. "I have the ultimate...cleaning crew...ready to clean...this mess. Don't worry..." And he started slipping down the wall again, falling asleep.

Another fleet of robot cleaners came out of the dormroom. Some larger ones this time, including a humanoid robot that was carrying a mop. He was followed by three circular robot floor cleaners, all rushing to tidy up the bathroom.

Now that most of the excitement was over, most of the students headed back into their dorms. They only had a few more hours of sleep before they had to get up for class.

Both Ethan and Koi watched as the machines started to clean up the mess inside the bathroom. With a whirr and a zap and the hum of machines, they began mopping up all the water, scrubbing and then drying the inside of the room, ready to leave it spotless.

Adam himself, however, appeared to be going in and out of consciousness.

"The meds are making him drowsy. He won't be fully functional for at least an hour," Koi explained.

"What are you. His mom?" Ethan said, still talking around his smoke. "You nag like a woman! Adam's tough! He'll be alright, trust me."

And Ethan walked into the Bathroom and grabbed Adam, who was falling asleep against the sink again, and hoisted him up on his back like Adam was his little brother or something.

Koi had to marvel at the superhuman strength. Sure, Adam wasn't a big guy, a little smaller than average, given his age. But still, Ethan carried him on his back as if Adam weighed no more than a backpack. That pang of Jealousy hit Koi again, but Koi was well aware this was his own disorder talking and stifled it.

"No more excuses. My date awaits," Ethan smirks, and before Koi could protest, he was strutting down the hall carrying a sleeping Adam on his back. He descended the stairs that led to the dorm's exit.

Koi sighed and let his head hang like a deflated balloon. What the hell? In about 3 hours, he was supposed to get up and get ready for class. But already his new teammates had him about to go on some "excursion" in the middle of the night. Ethan wasn't even giving him time to go to his dorm room and put on some real clothes.

But Koi had to admit, he was curious what Ethan was trying to show them and what he wanted Adam's "opinion" on. Furthermore, no one had ever invited him to hang out with them before. Ethan was practically bullying him, but bullying him to hang out? That's a new one.

Anyway, there wasn't a chance he was going to be able to go back to sleep, and he had to keep an eye on his two teammates, didn't he? Least they get him in any more trouble.

So without another thought, Koi heads down the hall, down the stairs, and out the door too. It was a bit chilly this fall night. Now that Koi was out of the dorms, he could use magic again and magically produced a warm hood to go over his wife-beater/tank top and some boots for his feet. The trio started trudging through the wooded area. It was an area Koi was very familiar with.

It wasn't the first time he'd snuck out of the dorms after curfew. A lot of the kids did. Everyone wanted to explore the island and practice magic outside of the bound areas of the Seaward dorms. But certain areas of the campus were forbidden to enter.

Lo and Behold, Ethan was heading towards one of those areas...
