Koi didn't want to be redundant. He was sure Ethan knew he was heading towards the forbidden lands. So Koi didn't even bother saying anything to him. He just followed.
The night was beautiful and crisp. As they walked through the woods int he dead of night Ethan hummed an unfamiliar song. Koi hated to admit it, but strangely, he was having fun. It wasexhilarating being outside the dorm so late, even though he was with two guys who were his enemies. It did help that one of them could only stay concious for about 10 minutes at a time.
"Where are we going?" Adam muttered during one of those 10 minute sessions.
"On a field trip, Kirage. Just make sure you hold on," Ethan warned. "If you fall back and bust your head on a rock we're gonna run and ditch you."
Before Adam could protest he was out cold again. Once again Koi had to admire (i.e. be psychotically jealous of) Ethan's strength. They were going on 45 minutes walking and he still was carrying Adam on his back. Even when he stopped and unloaded him so he could sleep up against a tree, he didn't show any signs of exhaustion. They had simply made it to the destination and he could let Adams drug wear off some more as he and Koi saw what they were up against.
Barbed wire. There was a fence full of it the ran the length of about 3 football fields. There were gaurd towers and Koi could see they came complete with gaurds. Armed Gaurds. There were miliatry vehicles all over the place with more armed gaurds and dogs. The title "forbidden lands" was obviously not a joke. They wanted to keep people out of this place.
"What are we doing here?" Koi hissed. "There's no way in hell we can get passed those gaurds."
"I gotta show you guys something. It's on the other side of this of the far side fence."
"You must be nuts! There's no way we can make it past these gaurds!"
"Yes, we can, teammate. You just have to trust me."
Koi could have coughed up a lung laughing at that one. "Trust you? You're clearly insane." And coming from me that's saying alot! Koi thought.
"Look I know you've got superpowers and all but last I heard you weren't bullet proof!"
"What if I told you you're not really seeing what you think you're seeing. It's a glamour."
"A glamour?" Koi thought. He looked through the night at the gaurds, the guns, the sharp teeth on the dogs. All of this some kind of magical illusion? He supposed Absolution Academy would have strong enough mystics to pull it off. But what if Ethan was full of crap and he got riddled full of bullets for trespassing?
"Okay, it's a glamour," Koi began. "You go first."
"Nah," Ethan muttered. "I've got a better idea."
He stomped over to where Adam was sleeping, hoisted him up over his shoulders. Then before Koi connect what he was about to do with his voice box to scream out STOP. He took Adam's body and chucked it into the Electric, barbed wire, fence.
"ADAM!!"Koi screamed out. Electric currents shocked through Adam's body and it was lit up with bright, nearly white glow as electricity surged through out him.
"You're going to jail for murder!"
"Ahh! Fuck that guy!" Ethan said with a demented chuckle.
Just as Koi realized he would be charged as an accomplice to murder, Adams body fell on the other side of the fence. Koi watched wide eyed as he groaned and pulled himself up into a seated position. Then he let loose a yawn and looked beyond the fence at theother two.
"What the fuck is going on? Why are we out here?" He yawns again and stretches this time looking around the field.
"Why are you two numbskulls just staring at me like that?" He mutters as he rubs the last of the sleep out of his eyes.
Koi slowly turns to look at Ethan who had a smug smile on his face. "I told you. Kirage was asleep so he didn't see the illusion at all. That's why he was able to phase through the fence unharmed. He doesn't see a fence at all. Just us standing here looking at him."
As if to emphasize his point he pushes his way into the fence. Just like with Adam koi see's electricity surge through him lighting him up but Ethan doesn't scream out in pain or looked at all harmed by it. Furthermore he walks through a barbed wire fence as if he was a ghost. He ends up on the other side next to Adam, his hair still perfectly styled and not a scratch on his perfect face.
"Now let's go Koi, we haven't got all day. I want to show you guys something before the sun comes up!"
"Show us something?" Adam mutters still sitting on the ground.
It's not real. Koi told himself looking at the fence. He could see Adam and Ethan made it through unharmed, so it's not real. It's not real. It's not real. But damnit, it sure LOOKED real!
Cautiously, Koi put out his hand and touched the fence. Hot electricity zapped himand he felt every ounce of the pain.
"How the FUCK is this not real?" Koi screamed out as he tried to dull the vibrating pain in his hand, jumping around in agony as if that would some how make it go away.
"Imbécile! (Idiot!)" Ethan yells angrily. As long as you believe it's real, it's REAL!"
"How am I going to convince myself this thing is not real?" Koi yells back. "I just got my ass kicked by it!"
Adam watches Koi jump around with a humorous look of confusion on his face.
"Is he hallucinating now?" He mutters. "Maybe it's his turn to take those black pills."
"Actually, that's not a bad idea," Ethan says. "Koi! You still got Adams meds, right? Maybe if you take one of them it'll dispell the illusion for you!"
Koi shakes out the pain in his hands a few more times and goes fishing in his sleep pants pocket. He finds the bottle of black pills. If he took two of them they meds would work faster but then he'd be sleeping all over the place like Adam. He decides to take one and wait for it to fully kick in.
"I'll need about 15 minutes for the meds to work," Koi told them.
Ethan exhales exasperated. "Bro, we've got to hurry up! We've got to do this before the sun comes up!"
He shakes his head. "Me and Adam will go up ahead. You catch up Koi!" And with that he turns on his heels and starts heading in the direction of the other side's gate. Adam give another yawn, stretches and then starts walking with him.
Koi shuts his eyes and twist his lips. He was used to people being impatient with him. But it still hurt.
To try to get over all the child hood trauma Ethan's impatience wa triggering Koi decided to meditate a little. It was a good way to kill time and calm himself down, all of which might help the pill work faster.
So Koi sat in meditative pose and tried to calm himself and clear his mind. After a few minutes he opened his eyes and saw the fence nd the guards there nd closed his eyes again. A few more minutes his eyes opened and everything was still the same. Then Koi accidently fell asleep. He doesn't know how long he was out, but when he opened his eyes the fence vanished and the gaurds were gone too. It had finally worked!
Koi stood up still in slight disbelief. It was really an illusion? It had looked and felt so real? He suddenly had a pang of empathy for Adam. He remembers that gash he saw on his face. Whatever Adam had been seeing was so real to him it had caused him physical harm. Samer with Koi and that fence. ut now he was seeing the truth. Nothing there.
He started running mainly to try and catch up with Ethan and Adam, but also to keep the sleepiness away.
Koi wasn't sure how long he was sleeping. but he felt like the other two must have a huge head start. I may have to use magic to make up some time. Koi thought and he tried to decide on a spell.
But before he could cast he saw two figures running towards him in the darkness. He heard yellling. Soon and Adma and Ethan cameinto focus.
"RUN!!" Ethan yelled. waving his arms.
"Wha?" Koi stammered still fuzzy headed and confused.
"The dogs are REAL!" Adam shouted.
The dogs are real? Koi thought as his heart sank and he heard growling.
He was almost too scared to turn around but when he did he saw 3 german shepard dogs growling t him, ready to attack...
