Yang Yang looked at Arya's smile. Youchang still had his arms around her. Yang Yang's heart ached. She forced a smile at them and made to leave. She shut the door behind her and walked towards her room.
She could not tell why she kept on repeating one mistake. Why she kept on deceiving her self that she was going to be accepted one day. She kept running from the truth. The truth was, she had never been accepted, she was not, and would never be.
She shuffled slowly to her room, the mass on her stomach making her fell extremely heavy. She placed her hands on her stomach. She would not go into her room to cry for consolation, she would not go to Changying as she had always done, she now decided she would face it all herself. She would train herself to be strong. She would make herself feel loved. For th first time in her life, she would learn to make people see her worth and appreciate it.
As she made to turn the knob of the door to her room, a strong hand touched her lightly on her shoulder. She froze. Had Youchang realised her relevance already and came back running after her?. No. There was no way that could happen. The man had enough pride.
She turned to face the owner of the hand that still held her shoulder. Her eyes met the mischievious smilling face of Jiegong Liu.
She did not know much about him,in fact she had not even had a proper discussion with him since her marriage to Youchang, but she sure knew he was Youchang's personal assistant. She looked at him. Clad in his black suit and V necked shirt, she could not help but notice how handsome he was. But still, she felt he was no match to Youchang. She smiled at him sweetly. If she was going to start charming people, she could start with him.
"Hello Miss yang yang." He said and extended his hand to her. She took them. It was soft and fleshy, unexpected of a man like him. They warmed hers. He released her hands.
"Hello Jiehong." She replied. His warm smile vanished. His face became very sober.
"You know, I have been wanting to stop by and say hello since the sad incident, but I have been so busy lately, I could not have even made out time for myself." He said reminding her of the past few days. She could not believe she had almost forgotten how just a few days ago, she and her unborn baby had almost been poisoned.
She smilled at him. "No need Jiehong. I understand you have been trying your best to fish out the orchestrator of that.."
Jiehong's face lit up in a beautiful smile. He pushed back a mop of dyed blond hair that had fallen to his face.
"Well. I'm glad I saw you. You were on your way from Youchang's laboratory am i correct?" He asked the smile leaving his face. He now looked genuinely worried.
Yang Yang looked at his face shocked. She was maarveled at how fast he seemed to switch between emotions. This minute he was smiling, the next he was looking so scaringly worried. She look down. It felt like he knew what had happened in the laboratory.
Finally, he spoke. "I am so sorry about whatever Arya said to you. She has always been that way. Excessively protective of Youchang. You should not blame her much. It should be as a result of their close relationship."
Yang Yang looked up to his face. He read her surprise. He continued.
"Yes. They had been friends from high school and later grew to be lovers. So she is so scared of whatever or whoever she sees as a threat to her relationship with Youchang. She redirects her fear to aggression. Like a little puppy growing up, trying to defend its owner. Notwithstanding it's toothless mouth."
Yang Yang could now understand a little of the other woman's pain. She knew she would feel the same way if she were in her shoes, but she was not sure she would react the same way. About her reaction. Jiehong had compared her to a toothless puppy. Does this mean she could make lots of noise, but she was harmful?. She sighed deeply.
"Thank you so much Jiehong. Talking to you helped a lot." She confessed. He smiled. This time even more sweetly.
"Its my pleasure. I would also like us to have a talk like this another time." He said.
This time, she smiled and nodded her approval. "Sure. I would also love to."
He stretched his hand again offering a hand shake. She took it.
"Nice chatting with you miss Yang Yang. "
"Same here."
Their hand shake lingered a little longer than necessary and soon he turned to leave.
Yang Yang turned the knob of her door. There was some thing about this man that suggested he was trying to charm her. She smiled to herself. He was already wining apparently. Then she remembered. She was a married woman. No. Youchang would not care, or would He?. He already had Arya, and besides, she was just a contracted piece of dirt. She convinced herself. Youchang surely would not care.
