Celine's POV
I pretended to fall asleep, because I couldn't fall asleep, and Cassian insisted I rest, his voice calm and commanding in that terrifying way of his.
The kind of calm that ends cold chills down your spine, and you have no other choice but to obey, even when every part of you wants to scream.
He probably knew I was pretending, or didn't care enough to check. The thoughts of today's event clouded my mind. The humiliation and the defilement I endured at the hands of the monster lying beside me.
The room was quiet now, except for the soft hum of the air conditioning and his soft snores. He was on the other side of the bed, lying so still I almost believed he had fallen asleep immediately. He looked nothing like he did when awake; he was an angel with his eyes closed, someone worth admiring, so peaceful.
