Chapter 41 - The Second Pokémon

Early in the morning, Eichi rushed to the Verdant Breeding House. Aunt Keiko had just arrived for work when she saw him running toward her.

Surprised, she asked, "Eichi, why are you here so early today?"

Eichi stopped and explained, "I'm here to borrow the incubator."

Aunt Keiko blinked. "Did you find another Pokémon Egg?"

Eichi replied, "Uh, not this time. If I told you this Pokémon Egg was given to me by a Heracross, would you believe it?"

Aunt Keiko: →_→

Seeing her expression, Eichi immediately knew she didn't believe him.

He didn't have time to convince her, so he urged her to take him to the incubation room.

Just like last time, Aunt Keiko operated the equipment while Eichi placed the Pokémon Egg on the incubator platform. There were a few other eggs there, all slowly hatching.

After adjusting some settings on the monitor, Aunt Keiko turned to him and said, "Eichi, this Pokémon Egg will probably take another two days to hatch."

"You can drop by during that time. As soon as it shows signs of hatching, I'll contact you."

Eichi thanked her. "Thank you, Aunt Keiko. Sorry for troubling you again."

She smiled kindly. "It's no trouble at all. This is a small matter."

As they walked downstairs together, Aunt Keiko suddenly asked, "Was that Pokémon Egg really given to you by a Heracross?"

"What's this about a Heracross gift?"

A pleasant voice came from the side.

When Eichi turned, he saw Amelie, who looked at him curiously.

He could only explain the whole story about how a Heracross had given him the Pokémon Egg the day before.

After hearing it, both Amelie and Aunt Keiko were completely speechless.

How could he be this lucky? Something like that actually happened to him?

"Heh heh…" Eichi laughed awkwardly.

After that, he went home to continue training.

Back at home, Eichi suddenly remembered he hadn't used the Technical Machines he bought. Eagerly, he released Beedrill and took out the TM discs and placement device from his backpack.

He inserted the Double Team TM into the machine, adjusted the settings, and attached the device to Beedrill's head.

"Ready?" Eichi asked seriously.

Beedrill nodded.

Eichi flipped the switch. A surge of current ran through the device and into Beedrill's head.

Beedrill closed its eyes. Ten minutes passed, then the machine powered down. Beedrill opened its eyes again.

"Well? Did you learn it?" Eichi asked curiously.

Beedrill nodded once more.

Following the same steps, Eichi had Beedrill learn Brick Break and Hidden Power as well.

After about an hour, Beedrill had learned all three moves.

Seeing how eager it was to try them out, Eichi took it to the nearby grove to test its new skills.

Once there, he had Beedrill fly a few laps to warm up.

After several quick circles in the air, Beedrill stretched its limbs, ready for action.

"Beedrill, use Double Team!" Eichi ordered.

Beedrill wavered slightly in midair, and four identical copies appeared beside it. After a few seconds, the illusions faded.

Eichi nodded in satisfaction. Then he set up a humanoid target. "Beedrill, use Brick Break on that target!"

Beedrill's eyes gleamed red as it rushed forward. Its left stinger shone with white light, striking the target hard.

The dummy shook violently. The move's power was impressive.

Now, for the last move, use Hidden Power. Every Pokémon's Hidden Power manifests as a different type, and Eichi was curious to see what Beedrill's would be.

Beedrill gathered energy inside its body. Sparks began to jump across its exoskeleton: one, then two, then three arcs of lightning.

In moments, electricity surrounded its body. With a sharp cry, Beedrill fired the energy at a nearby tree.

The tree blackened instantly, reduced to charcoal.

Eichi finally knew what type of Hidden Power Beedrill had.

It was Electric-type. He was a little surprised.

After testing all three moves, it was clear Beedrill was still unfamiliar with them; it could use them, but not smoothly.

Seeing Beedrill's enthusiasm, Eichi let it keep practicing until it was satisfied.

Two days later, on the third morning, Eichi arrived at the Verdant Breeding House, his heart full of anticipation. Aunt Keiko and Amelie were already in the incubation room.

They greeted him, then turned their eyes toward the incubator.

All three were curious: what kind of Pokémon had the Heracross given him?

Soon, the Pokémon Egg began to shake. Eichi's heart pounded as the egg glowed white and slowly transformed into a two-legged Pokémon.

When the light faded, they finally saw it clearly.

It looked like an insect standing upright. On its reptilian head were three sharp horns, and on its forearms, a pair of white scythes used for hunting and combat. Its thighs were covered in spiky fur, and its feet had three sharp claws each.

It was a Scyther!

Scyther, the Mantis Pokémon.

Type: Bug, Flying.

Abilities: Swarm, Technician.

Hidden Ability: Steadfast.

Description: With ninja-like agility and speed, it confuses its enemies and slices them to pieces with its scythes in an instant. In its youth, it lives in groups deep in the mountains, honing its scythe attacks and mastering swift movement.

The newborn Scyther looked at the three humans, then leapt straight into Eichi's arms.

Under Amelie and Aunt Keiko's gaze, Eichi couldn't help smiling proudly.

The little Scyther wasn't as cool or fierce as an adult; it was still small, clumsy, and adorably naive, chirping softly in Eichi's arms.

Eichi released Beedrill to meet the new family member.

Beedrill leaned forward, large eyes full of curiosity, studying the future teammate.

Seeing the Pokémon, Aunt Keiko and Amelie were both surprised. "A Scyther! That's quite a rare Bug-type Pokémon!"

"I'm starting to get jealous of your luck," Amelie added.

Eichi laughed as they took turns holding the newborn Scyther, who was so cute they couldn't put it down.

Afterward, Aunt Keiko gave Eichi detailed advice on raising Scyther; it was obvious both she and Amelie were fond of the new arrival.
