Chapter 42 - Scyther

The newly hatched Scyther couldn't train yet. Eichi only let it come out to stretch its body a bit.

Today, he brought Scyther out to watch Beedrill's training.

Beedrill's training routine had recently increased by three new drills.

The total training time was the same, but with three more moves to practice, Eichi had to shorten the time spent on the others.

First, Agility could be trained together with Double Team.

After all, Agility improved speed to create afterimages, so the two didn't conflict at all.

Next, Brick Break could be paired with Twineedle, forming a powerful combo.

Just imagine: after Twineedle, a clean Brick Break strike, the combined power would be remarkable.

Eichi held the small Scyther in his arms, watching Beedrill's needles flash like lightning against the humanoid target. The young Scyther's small eyes gleamed with longing.

It chirped excitedly at Eichi.

"You want to be as strong as Beedrill, huh?" Eichi asked with a smile.

"Tomorrow, you'll start your own training. With effort, you can become just as strong."

"I… can?" Scyther asked curiously.

Eichi chuckled. "You've got great potential. Of course, you can."

Little Scyther's eyes sparkled with anticipation for tomorrow's training. It hoped to become as strong as Beedrill one day.

When it had just hatched, it was fifty centimeters tall and weighed twenty kilograms.

After just one day, it had grown five centimeters and gained three kilograms.

Pokémon grew fast. According to the official data, Scyther's average height was one and a half meters, and its weight was fifty-six kilograms.

Amelie had told him that with proper care, Scyther could reach those numbers in just half a month.

After watching Beedrill's training, a strong desire to grow burned within Scyther's heart.

When Beedrill finished, Eichi let it rest for a while. During the break, Scyther flew over and chirped praises at it.

Beedrill, though proud, gave a soft, gentle response of encouragement.

That evening, in the living room, Eichi prepared dinner for Scyther. Since it was still small, it wasn't suited for standard Pokémon food yet.

Just like when he raised Weedle, he made a mix of Moomoo Milk and honey.

After the meal, Eichi carried Scyther into his room for a massage, it helped with its digestion and growth.

When he was done, he placed Scyther in the little nest he had made for it.

He didn't sleep beside Scyther because it was still young and couldn't fully control the scythes on its arms.

He was afraid that, by accident, it might slice him during the night.

After turning off the lights, Eichi gathered the Bug Force inside his body and infused it into both Scyther and Beedrill.

Scyther let out a soft, satisfied hum and turned over, quickly falling asleep again.

Beside it, Beedrill opened its eyes, looked fondly at Scyther, then closed them once more.

Oh, right, the small Scyther was a girl.

What a peaceful, wonderful night.

The sun rose, bringing light to the world. Morning came again, and with it a brand new day.

Today was the day Scyther would begin its training. It was buzzing with excitement in Eichi's arms.

It flapped its wings eagerly, urging Eichi to take it to the small grove.

Once there, it broke free of his hold, hovering in the air as it raised its scythes and chirped, "Train! Train!"

Seeing how excited it was, Eichi released Beedrill and said, "Beedrill, take Scyther for a few laps in the air. But don't go too fast; it won't be able to keep up."

Beedrill nodded, said a few words to Scyther, and took off. The little Scyther quickly followed.

Beedrill's speed was much slower than usual, but Scyther still had to beat its wings with all its strength to keep up.

They flew ten laps before Scyther began to feel tired, yet seeing Beedrill still flying steadily ahead made it grit its teeth and keep going.

By the fifteenth lap, its strength was gone. Its body went limp, and it began to fall.

Beedrill instantly used Agility, darted forward, and caught it in midair.

It then carried Scyther back to Eichi. Seeing it exhausted, he quickly infused it with Bug Force to restore its stamina.

Once it opened its eyes and saw Eichi, it threw itself into his arms, crying in frustration.

Eichi patted its head gently. "Who was it that insisted on flying so many laps, huh? If you're tired, you don't have to keep going. Now you're crying!"

Scyther wailed even louder.

Eichi quickly softened his tone. "Alright, alright, don't cry. We won't fly anymore, okay?"

Beedrill buzzed over to comfort it as well.

While calming it down, Eichi pulled a bottle of Moomoo Milk from his backpack, the kind it liked most.

Scyther took it immediately and began to drink happily.

Thanks to the sweet taste, its tears soon stopped.

When Scyther was born, Eichi had used the Eye of the Bug Emperor to assess its potential, and it was rated as Excellent, a very good talent.

Though not as gifted as that Heracross he once saw, Eichi was satisfied. After all, his Bug Force could improve a Pokémon's potential over time.

Eventually, both Beedrill and Scyther would surpass that Heracross.

After Scyther's strength recovered, Eichi said, "Scyther, show me the moves you've learned."

It nodded eagerly and took off from his arms.

Its expression turned serious as it swung its scythes. The air rippled visibly, striking a nearby tree.

Leaves scattered in all directions. Then, its body sped up sharply, dashing toward the tree.

Its gaze sharpened; it took a deep breath, white light gathering around its head.

When it had finished demonstrating all its moves, it flew back to Eichi, swaying from fatigue, its eyes sparkling as if to say, "Praise me!"

Eichi chuckled, rubbed its head, and said, "You did great."

Scyther chirped joyfully, "Chaa-cha!"

It had just shown four moves: Vacuum Wave, Quick Attack, Leer, and Focus Energy.

Its level was still low, so it only knew those four for now.

As it hovered before him, full of pride, Eichi decided to let it train lightly for the next few days.

No need to push it too hard, he wanted Scyther to have a happy childhood, even if it would only last a few days.
