It was a pity he already had a Heracross, so he couldn't choose this one.
A moment later, Eichi spotted another familiar Pokémon.
Number: a0045
Pokémon: Scyther
Type: Bug / Flying
This was a Scyther, and it looked quite promising. Unfortunately, he already had one of those as well.
Eichi continued his search. In just this short amount of time, he had seen three or four Heracross and Scyther.
After walking a few steps further in, he suddenly noticed a Pokémon egg that was brown with a hint of white.
Number: a9301
Pokémon: Pinsir
Type: Bug
Ah, this one is good, he thought. Pinsir was one of the Bug-type Pokémon with the highest base stats, and it was also known by another name: Dajia.
Just then, Director Yanagi walked over and said, "This Pinsir suits you very well!"
Eichi shook his head. "It does suit me, but I'd like to look around a bit more."
Eichi had a feeling that it wasn't the best fit for him—that his fourth Pokémon wouldn't be this one.
Suddenly, Eichi asked, "Director Yanagi, are there any pseudo-legendaries here?"
"There are!" Director Yanagi replied.
Eichi was stunned; he had only asked on a whim, but they actually had them.
"Really?"
Director Yanagi nodded. "There is one right now, actually, but pseudo-legendaries are very rare here."
"To date, our academy has only ever had a dozen or so pseudo-legendaries."
"Furthermore, their talent grade is Excellent at most; there hasn't been a single one with Outstanding talent."
"They are snatched up as soon as they appear. For example, there is a Dratini right now."
"However, this Dratini has already been reserved by a senior student in the upper grades."
As he spoke, he led Eichi to a smaller machine. This machine was much smaller than the others and appeared more advanced.
Only one Pokémon egg sat upon it; the other slots were empty.
The patterns on this egg were blue and white, and it looked very beautiful. However, it had nothing to do with him.
Eichi took a brief look and then headed to other sections to check different eggs.
He first visited the Hoenn area, but there wasn't a single Bug-type Pokémon.
He remembered that Hoenn had a very good Pokémon called Anorith.
Unfortunately, it wasn't here. Since Anorith is a fossil Pokémon, its numbers are extremely scarce.
He checked the Sinnoh area and did find one Bug-type: Combee.
Number: d1890
Pokémon: Combee
Type: Bug / Flying
This wasn't what he wanted either. Up until now, Eichi still hadn't found the one he was most satisfied with.
By this point, Tetsu, Kelly, and Matsumoto had finished picking their Pokémon.
Matsumoto chose a Psyduck, and Kelly chose a Roselia.
Tetsu had chosen a Trapinch. He was very lucky to have found one.
Tetsu walked over holding his incubation pod and asked, "Eichi, you haven't picked yet?"
Eichi looked at the pod in Tetsu's arms. "Mhm, I want to look a bit more."
Tetsu didn't understand Eichi's situation, so he simply said, "Alright then, keep looking. I'm heading out first."
Eichi nodded, and Tetsu left with his incubation pod.
Director Yanagi also excused himself after saying goodbye to Eichi. He had been standing inside for quite a while and was tired, so he needed to go out and rest.
After the director left, Eichi and the staff member were the only ones left in the incubation room.
Eichi continued walking further inside. Very few people had visited the deepest part, and he was curious.
There was a small machine inside holding several Pokémon eggs.
Intrigued, Eichi walked over and looked at the electronic screen beneath them.
Number: s1003
Pokémon: Unknown
Type: Unknown
Father: Unknown
Mother: Unknown
Energy Fluctuations: ...
Wait, what?
How come there's no name?
Eichi looked at another egg.
Number: s1004
Pokémon: Unknown
Type: Unknown
Father: Unknown
Mother: Unknown
It was exactly like the first one—nothing was listed. Eichi checked several surrounding eggs, and they were all the same.
How strange. Eichi turned to the staff member and asked, "Excuse me, what's the story with these eggs?"
The staff member walked over and explained with a smile, "We truly don't know what Pokémon are in these eggs."
"Our Pokémon eggs come from several sources."
"Some are traded from other locations, and some are the offspring of Pokémon raised by the academy."
"There are also offspring from the Pokémon of graduates from Silver Academy."
"While we are raising Pokémon, there are some eggs where we simply don't know which Pokémon the parents were."
"Because the areas where the Pokémon live are quite large and connected to the outside world, occasionally, eggs of unknown Pokémon mysteriously appear. These are those eggs."
"Furthermore, no one knows what Pokémon is inside or what its talent grade is."
"Choosing them is a gamble. In past years, some students exchanged for them and hatched Pokémon with Outstanding talent; the luckiest one hatched an Outstanding-grade Dratini."
"But that's for the lucky ones. For those with poor luck, the talent might be as low as Excellent, or at worst, just Ordinary."
"So, it really depends on luck."
"When we list these unknown Pokémon in the Logistics Department's exchange catalog, the credit cost is significantly lower compared to other eggs."
Eichi finally understood what was going on.
Choosing one of these required luck. Just as he thought this, the Bug Force within his body suddenly began to circulate involuntarily.
Wisps of energy were mobilized from within him, and the Eye of the Bug Emperor opened automatically.
Then, Eichi saw his energy slowly pouring into a blue-and-white patterned Pokémon egg to his right.
This is...
It was that same feeling—the exact same situation as when he first encountered Beedrill's egg.
Moreover, after the energy poured inside, a sudden surge of vitality appeared within the egg.
Eichi felt that he had already established a connection with it; he could faintly sense the life inside.
Eichi knew that this was the fourth Pokémon he had been searching for.
What had just occurred happened in just a few short seconds. Snapping back to his senses, Eichi pointed firmly at that egg and said, "I'll choose this one."
The staff member thought she had misheard. "Are you sure you want to pick that one?"
"I'm sure," Eichi said.
"Alright," the female staff member said before pressing the button.
The incubation pod rose slowly, and the staff member took it out and handed it to Eichi.
Eichi took the pod. Although the inside was warm, the outside felt cool and comfortable to the touch.
"Thank you," Eichi said to the staff member.
