As Yun Si and I stepped out of the restaurant, the warm glow of the lights fading behind us, my mind was still lingering on the easy laughter from dinner.
But then, I saw him and my smile vanished.
Mo Yuzhen stood near the entrance with a woman clinging tightly to his arm. She leaned into him intimately, her fingers curled possessively around his sleeve, her head tilted up as if she belonged there.
I stopped short, and so did Yun Si. For a split second, shock flashed across both our faces. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of luck I possessed to meet this man everywhere.
At the same time, Mo Yuzhen looked up and froze the moment he saw me. The casual indifference on his face shattered instantly. His expression changed so fast it was almost jarring.
"Yuzhen?" the woman beside him murmured, confused.
He didn't answer her. Instead, he abruptly pushed her arm away and stepped toward me, panic flickering in his eyes. "Xiyu—wait. It's not what you think."
