When I woke up the next morning, sunlight was already spilling across the room. For a second, I forgot where I was. The bed was too big, and the air smelled too clean. Hmmm I knew something was wrong . Then I remembered, the house, the contract and Alex.
I lazy dragged myself out of bed, threw on a simple dress, and padded my way downstairs. The smell of coffee and toasted bread filled the hall, and voices echoed faintly from the dining room.
He was there. I sighed heavily before entering the dining hall.
Alex sat at the far end of the long mahogany table, suit jacket off, sleeves rolled up, a cup of what looked like black coffee in his hand. He looked like he'd been awake for hours. When his eyes lifted to mine, something sharp flickered there before it softened, just a little.
"Morning," I murmured, keeping my voice neutral.
"Morning,princess" he said, setting his cup down. "Sleep well?"
