===============================
Issei, Kiba, and Koneko rushed down the worn stone staircase leading into the church's basement.
A thunderous explosion shook the entire building.
Chunks of stone fell from the ceiling while a shockwave rippled through the hallway. The three of them staggered slightly as debris scattered across the steps.
Smoke poured down through a massive crack that had just been carved through the upper floors.
Issei coughed violently and looked up in disbelief.
"What the hell?!" he shouted, staring at the enormous gash splitting through the ceiling above them. "Is she trying to kill us too?!"
Kiba stared upward as well, clearly stunned.
"I... didn't know she could do something like that," he admitted. The scale of the attack was far beyond what he had expected from Sun Jing.
However, the swordsman quickly regained focus.
"But we must keep moving," Kiba said firmly, turning his attention back to the hallway ahead. "Lead the way, Issei."
Issei clenched his fists and nodded. "Right!"
{Back on the Surface}
The ruined interior of the church had gone quiet.
Half the building had been sliced apart, leaving shattered stone, splintered pews, and drifting dust hanging in the air. Light from the moon poured through the massive cut in the wall, illuminating the wreckage of the battlefield.
Sun Jing walked slowly through the debris, resting her sheathed sword on her shoulder.
She approached the fallen exorcist lying motionless on the floor.
"Yo," she said casually. "Crazy priest bastard... you still alive?"
She nudged his head lightly with the end of her sheathed sword.
Sun Jing sighed. "Man... I thought you were stronger than that."
Just as she was about to turn away, Freed's remaining arm suddenly twitched.
His uninjured hand slipped into his pocket.
Sun Jing raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"
Freed slowly lifted his head, his face pale from blood loss but his eyes still burning with that same twisted excitement.
"I think... I've learned something tonight," he rasped.
His voice was weak, but the madness in it hadn't faded.
"I think... I think I want to kill you."
Before Sun Jing could react, he threw a small object onto the ground.
A thick cloud of smoke exploded outward, filling the room instantly.
Sun Jing waved her hand in front of her face as the smoke spread.
"A smoke bomb?"
By the time the haze cleared, Freed was gone.
Sun Jing clicked her tongue.
"Great. Now the crazy guy's got a grudge."
She stepped through the broken wall of the church and made her way around to the back of the building.
There, she immediately spotted Rias and Akeno and two of the fallen angels standing across from them.
"Didn't know you two would be here."
Rias spun around the moment she heard her voice.
"So that was YOU!!"
Her shout echoed across the clearing.
"You could have hit one of us!" Rias continued, clearly furious. "Better yet, you could've just announced the supernatural world to all of humanity while you were at it!"
Sun Jing instantly raised her hands in surrender.
"I-sorry! I didn't know you were back here," she said quickly. "So... do you two need some help?"
Akeno giggled softly beside Rias, seemingly much less bothered.
"It's fine, cutie~," she said sweetly. "We're tougher than we look."
Meanwhile, one of the fallen angels Mittelt had completely stopped paying attention to the
Her eyes were glued to Sun Jing.
"Holy shit," Mittelt blurted out. "You're hot."
Sun Jing blinked.
"...Huh?"
Mittelt suddenly pointed at her dramatically.
"Hey blondie!" she shouted. "Why don't you join us fallen angels instead? You're way too good for these boring devils-"
Akeno's smile sharpened. "Holy Lightning."
A bolt of pure lightning crashed down from the sky. The strike hit Mittelt directly.
When the light faded, the fallen angel was gone.
Sun Jing stared at the smoking spot where she had been standing.
"...Oh." She slowly turned toward the church. "Yeah, I'll just leave you guys to it."
Without another word, she casually walked back inside the ruined building to go help Issei and the others.
Behind her, Rias stared in disbelief. "A-Akeno! You chased her away!"
Akeno placed a finger on her cheek and tilted her head innocently.
"Oops."
{Underneath the Church}
Issei, Kiba, and Koneko stepped into the chamber cautiously, their eyes immediately drawn to the center of the room.
Asia was chained to a large wooden cross.
Her arms were spread out, her wrists bound tightly by glowing restraints. Strange green lines carved into the cross began to light up one after another, spreading outward like veins of energy.
"Come on in, devils," Raynare said with a cruel smile. "Welcome to the party. Though I'm afraid you're a little too late."
She stood proudly in front of the cross, watching them with satisfaction.
Green light pulsed brighter along the ritual markings.
Asia suddenly screamed.
The sound echoed painfully through the chamber as the magic circle activated beneath the cross.
"Unfortunately," Raynare continued calmly, "the ritual's already over."
"What are you doing to her?!" Issei shouted, stepping forward. "Stop it! You let Asia go right now!"
Kiba's eyes narrowed as he studied the glowing pattern.
"That's it..." he murmured, realization dawning on his face. "They're after her Sacred Gear."
Issei looked over at him in confusion.
"Wait, hold on-I don't get it!" he said desperately, watching the green glow intensify around Asia's body. "What's going to happen to her?!"
"To take her Sacred Gear... is to take her life."
The green light surged and Asia's scream suddenly stopped.
A pair of glowing green rings slowly rose from her chest, drifting upward as if pulled by invisible hands.
"Wait..." Issei's eyes widened in horror. "She's dying?!"
Raynare stepped forward and raised her hands toward the floating rings.
"Twilight Healing," she whispered greedily. "At last... it's in my hands."
The rings of light shot forward and sank into her chest.
The entire room exploded in green light.
The fallen angels around the room shielded their eyes as the magical energy spread outward. When the glow finally faded, Raynare stood in the center of the room with a vibrant green aura surrounding her body.
She threw her head back and laughed.
"Yes...!" she shouted. "I'll be the most powerful fallen angel there is!"
"All those bastards who screwed me over are going to regret it!"
While her attention was completely focused on her victory, something small slipped quietly into the chamber.
A strawberry-red fox.
It crept along the shadows of the room, unnoticed by the fallen angels who were too busy celebrating Raynare's success.
The fox's magenta eyes focused on the cross.
'Is she seriously hanging on a cross...?' Sun Jing thought to herself.
The fox flicked its tail, and from seemingly nowhere, a sword appeared beside it.
Using her tail, Sun Jing maneuvered the blade upward and sliced cleanly through the glowing chains binding Asia.
Raynare immediately stopped mid-laugh. "Huh?"
She looked down just in time to see the small fox grabbing Asia's limp body and dragging her several feet away from the cross.
"A fox?" Raynare said in confusion.
One of the cloaked fallen angels frowned.
"Wait... what's an animal doing down here-"
Issei's eyes widened suddenly.
"Sun Jing?!"
The moment Raynare heard that name, her expression twisted with fury.
"YOU!"
The fox sighed.
"Well... the gig is up, I guess."
A puff of smoke burst around the small animal.
When it cleared, Sun Jing stood there in her human form, now holding Asia carefully in her arms.
She glanced at Raynare with a casual smile.
"Hey," she said. "Did you miss me?"
Raynare's face contorted with rage.
"Forget those devils!" she screamed at her followers. "I WANT HER DEAD!"
The cloaked fallen angels immediately moved forward, preparing to attack.
Sun Jing simply adjusted her grip on Asia and spoke. "Can you at least let me take her out of here first?"
Asia coughed weakly, her eyes slowly opened. "...Sun Jing?" she whispered faintly.
Sun Jing looked down at her and gave a small reassuring smile. "Yeah. It's me."
She brushed a strand of hair away from Asia's face. "Just stay awake a little longer. Everything will be okay. I promise."
Then she vanished.
One moment she was standing in the center of the room
The next she reappeared beside Issei, Kiba, and Koneko.
Sun Jing gently placed Asia into Issei's arms. "I'll leave her here."
She looked up at him, her expression suddenly serious. "Issei... Raynare is yours to deal with now."
Behind them, the robed exorcists began advancing. "We'll handle everything else."
"Koneko, Kiba," Sun Jing said as she stepped forward, her sword resting loosely in her hand. "Let's clear a path for him, shall we?"
"You don't have to tell me twice," Koneko replied flatly.
She cracked her knuckles and launched forward like a cannonball. One of the robed fallen barely had time to react before her fist slammed into his chest, sending him flying across the room and crashing into a stone pillar.
Issei gently laid Asia down on the ground behind him before turning back to the fight. One of the cloaked men rushed him with a glowing light sword raised high.
The blade came down Issei threw up his left arm and blocked it with his Sacred Gear. The impact rang loudly against the metal gauntlet.
"I don't have time for this!" Issei shouted.
He drove his fist straight into the man's stomach, knocking the wind out of him and sending him collapsing to the floor. "Move it!"
A robed fallen angel swung his light sword downward, but Kiba smoothly intercepted it with his own blade.
The moment the light blade touched it, the energy began to dissolve and flow into Kiba's sword.
The fallen stared in disbelief and was knocked aside, sliding across the stone floor.
"Rasengan!"
A swirling blue sphere of magical energy erupted into existence in her palm. Sun Jing slammed it directly into the chest of an approaching exorcist.
The spinning force detonated on impact.
The man was launched backward, crashing into several of his allies and knocking them into a tangled heap.
Issei looked back for a brief moment.
Sun Jing, Kiba, and Koneko were holding the entire group off by themselves.
They were literally making a path through the enemies for him.
"Sun Jing... Kiba... Koneko..." Issei murmured. A smile appeared on his face. "Thank you!"
Without wasting another second, he sprinted forward and ran up the staircase leading toward Raynare.
"You'll pay for what you did to Asia!" Issei shouted as he reached the top. "You crazy bitch! Give Asia back her Sacred Gear right now!"
Raynare watched him approach with mild amusement.
"Soooo tough..." she said mockingly.
She stretched her arms lazily as if bored.
"Sorry, but I had to betray my superiors to snag that little gem," she continued. "Unfortunately for you, you're about to become my dénouement."
A spear of brilliant light materialized in her hand.
"But the good news is..." Raynare added with a cruel smile. "You get to die together."
Her gaze shifted briefly toward the basement where the battle was raging.
"But you're not the one I'm really after."
"Shut up!" Issei shouted angrily. "I'm the one you're going to fight! Not Sun Jing! It's my responsibility to get rid of you!"
He glanced back at the staircase where his friends were still battling the exorcists below.
"I can't believe I ever wanted to be with you."
Raynare scoffed.
"As if I couldn't tell you were a virgin the first time I saw you," she said with open disdain. "It made my job easier. You pathetic idiots will believe anything if you think you'll get your pole greased."
Issei clenched his fists. "I actually liked you... or Yuma."
Raynare suddenly switched her tone, mimicking the sweet voice she had once used while disguised.
"Oh sweetie," she said mockingly. "That was the point."
I needed you to play the hero for my damsel in distress. Poor thing... you wanted to believe it so badly you never even caught on."
"I wish you could see your face right now. It almost makes the torture of spending so much time with you worth it."
Issei's teeth ground together.
"Why...?" he asked quietly. "Why would you even go that far? You had to know it was pointless from the start..."
Raynare suddenly lunged forward. Her light spear shot straight toward Issei's chest.
He barely managed to jump aside as the spear slammed into the floor where he had been standing. Raynare twisted and swung the weapon again but another blade intercepted it.
Sun Jing had appeared between them, blocking the strike with Wado Ichimonji.
"Sun?!" Issei exclaimed.
Sun Jing didn't look at him. "I'm really getting sick of you not getting serious," she said. "You'll never catch up if you don't fight back."
Raynare cried out as the blade cut across her shoulder.
Then the wound instantly closed.
A soft green glow surrounded Raynare's body as Twilight Healing activated.
"No matter what injury is inflicted upon me, it'll be healed," she said proudly. "A perfect gift for those of us who no longer have the benefit of divine protection, wouldn't you say?"
Sun Jing exhaled slowly.
"I'm honestly getting sick of you damn birds."
Raynare's eyes filled with hate.
"And I'm getting sick of you!" she screamed. "You've humiliated me for the last time!"
The two of them clashed instantly.
Their fight exploded across the upper floor as sword and spear collided again and again.
Meanwhile, Issei stood frozen watching and thinking to himself.
'I am so sick and tired of having other people fight my battles for me... I'm sick of being weak.'
His gaze shifted toward Asia's motionless body across the room.
'Asia is dead because I couldn't protect her...'
His fists trembled.
'I... I WANT STRENGTH!'
DRAGON BOOST!
A mechanical voice echoed from his left hand.
His Sacred Gear erupted with brilliant green light.
The small red gauntlet began to change shape, expanding across his arm. A glowing green jewel appeared at the center while two golden spikes extended from the sides of the armored glove.
Issei's eyes widened, he could feel it. A strength he had never experienced before.
Without hesitation, he charged forward toward Raynare with his fist raised.
Sun Jing immediately noticed and jumped backward to give him space.
Raynare's eyes widened in surprise.
She flipped backward into the air just in time.
Issei's punch slammed into the floor where she had been standing.
But because she had avoided it at the last second, Issei lost his balance and stumbled forward, falling onto the ground.
Raynare hovered briefly in the air above him, staring down with irritation.
