Chapter 394 - Chapter 394: A Shadow Lurking in the Dark

"Is this really the level Universe 7 is supposed to have?"

From what he could see, this planet was leagues beyond Earth.

In the original story, Universe 7's Mortal Level had only been 3.18.

Most of the other planets in Universe 7 weren't much different from Earth either.

Back when Planet Vegeta still existed, Frieza's army and the Saiyans of Planet Vegeta had been the publicly recognized powerhouses of Universe 7.

But compared to the warriors on this planet, some of them were already stronger than the Saiyans of old.

"Has my Universe 7 really taken off?"

The smile at the corner of Gran's lips was becoming impossible to suppress.

Since Whis wasn't with him, he had no way of knowing what Universe 7's current Mortal Level was.

But judging from what he was seeing now, Gran knew that Universe 7 had already undergone a qualitative transformation.

Especially since the spectators were discussing the Universal Martial Arts Tournament scheduled for two years from now.

Their faces were filled with excitement and anticipation.

Gran could tell at a glance that the changes occurring throughout Universe 7 were directly tied to that tournament.

"As expected of me. I'm a genius!"

Gran couldn't help laughing out loud.

The moment he laughed, every spectator nearby turned toward him.

"Hm?"

"Who is that? He doesn't look like someone from our planet."

"Could he be a traveler from outer space?"

"He definitely isn't from here! Quick, ask him!"

"Ask him if there are any new updates about the tournament!"

"Charge!"

The plant-based spectators immediately swarmed toward Gran.

Gran's lips twitched.

Without hesitation, he used Instant Transmission and vanished.

"Where did he go?"

"Damn it! I wanted to ask him where the tournament would be held and how to register!"

"Relax. Didn't the Galactic Patrol say that the divine organizer will announce the registration method in two years?"

"That's right! Until then, let's focus on getting stronger!"

"Exactly! When the time comes, I'll make sure the Fruit of Life stays in our universe!"

"..."

Elsewhere.

Gran didn't want to celebrate too early.

After all, the planet he had just visited had been chosen completely at random.

If that were the only planet in Universe 7 paying attention to the tournament, then his plan would have been a failure.

So he traveled to the opposite end of Universe 7 and began investigating more worlds.

Some civilizations focused on technology.

Others centered around martial arts.

Some pursued entirely different paths.

Yet regardless of their culture or level of development, they were all discussing the Universal Martial Arts Tournament that Gran had announced.

The scale of its influence was unprecedented.

And they weren't merely talking about it.

They were acting.

Everyone was training relentlessly.

Not only to defend the honor of Universe 7, but also to ensure that the Fruit of Life remained within Universe 7.

"So what exactly is Universe 7's Mortal Level now?"

Floating amid the stars, Gran felt his heart race with excitement.

"I need to find an Angel and ask."

With another use of Instant Transmission, he disappeared from the starry sky.

Galactic Prison

The planet was covered with towering cylindrical structures.

Each one served as a prison for criminals from across the universe.

Gran appeared there and entered one of the massive facilities.

His arrival immediately drew the attention of several Galactic Patrol officers.

However, the moment they noticed the Saiyan tail wrapped around his waist, they instantly recognized his identity.

In the past, seeing a Saiyan would have prompted an immediate battle alert.

But things were different now.

The Saiyans had joined the Galactic Patrol.

They were colleagues.

Naturally, nobody reacted with hostility.

"Lord Saiyan, have you come to deliver a prisoner to the Galactic Prison?"

one of the patrolmen asked politely.

"No."

Gran glanced around.

After failing to find the person he was looking for, he asked,

"Where's Merus?"

Although Merus was only an Angel-in-Training, he was still a true Angel.

As a result, Gran couldn't sense his presence.

"Sir, a major problem has recently emerged somewhere in the universe."

"The Galactic King issued an order, and Merus left the prison to capture the culprit."

"A major problem?"

Gran froze.

At this point in the timeline, Universe 7 shouldn't be facing any major crises.

"What happened?"

"Sir, the troublemaker is actually someone who disappeared long ago—Slug."

"Slug?"

Gran looked surprised.

Slug was the evil Namekian from the movie continuity.

Like Piccolo, he belonged to the lineage of Super Namekians.

When he first appeared, his target had been Earth.

He had wanted to transform the planet into a massive Planet Cruiser and use the Dragon Balls to restore his youth.

Wait.

Restore his youth?

A faint smile appeared on Gran's face.

He suddenly understood why Slug had become active again.

Slug was extremely old.

He probably wasn't much younger than the Grand Elder of Namek.

Back when he left Namek, it had been due to the planet's climate disaster.

In Slug's understanding, Namek should have exploded long ago.

That was why he had never considered returning to Namek to use its Dragon Balls.

Without knowledge of Earth's Dragon Balls, there was only one way for him to extend his lifespan.

The Fruit of Life—the grand prize of the upcoming tournament.

At that very moment...

Buzz!

A powerful aura erupted from deep within the cosmos, reaching even the Galactic Prison.

"The aura feels somewhat muddled. Probably because of old age."

"Power level... around thirty million."

Gran carefully sensed it.

If nothing unexpected had happened, this belonged to Slug.

Whoosh!

In the next instant, Gran vanished.

Only the bewildered Galactic Patrol officers remained behind.

Not far from the Galactic Prison floated what appeared to be a planet.

In truth, it was more accurate to call it a colossal starship.

The vessel had been constructed from an entire planet.

Steel-plated surfaces.

Massive engine thrusters.

Mechanical guards patrolling everywhere.

The gigantic warship radiated a highly advanced technological atmosphere.

BOOM!!

A terrifying battle was raging aboard it today.

A massive energy sphere descended from the sky.

Its explosion melted all metal within a thousand-meter radius into molten iron.

Yet it failed to hit its intended target.

A figure clad in a Galactic Patrol combat suit and wearing a communications headset darted rapidly across the ship.

"Slug, surrender now!"

It was Merus.

Blaster in hand, he charged straight toward Slug in the distance.

However, halfway through his advance, he suddenly turned his head and glanced behind him.

His gaze landed on a steel wall.

But hidden behind that wall...

Was another figure lurking in the shadows.
