Blanche's POV
Demetrius's words hit me like a freight train.
The air between us turned thick and suffocating.
After an awkward beat, I forced a smile at Demetrius and Patty. "Let's eat, the food looks fantastic. I bet it's delicious."
I figured the best way to handle Demetrius's confession was to pretend it never happened.
If I made a big deal out of it, things would just get messier for everyone.
Demetrius didn't push. He grabbed the serving chopsticks and started piling food onto my plate with careful attention.
Then he turned to Patty with a casual, "Patty, the food here tastes great. Have a bite."
From where she sat, Patty picked up on everything immediately.
Demetrius had it bad for me.
Patty had been carrying a torch for him for years.
The man was a total catch, always had women circling him, but somehow stayed unattached. Patty used to joke to herself: 'Either he's got some weird hang-up, or his heart's already taken.'
