Chapter 2 - Unexpected partnerships

Everyone was seated in the classroom when the teacher walked in with a strict expression.

Teacher: "Alright class, you'll be working on a physics project."

Students (groaning): "Ma'am, not now... classes just started!"

Teacher: "You're here to study, not to relax. Our first priority is learning, then anything else."

Students: "Okay, ma'am..."

Teacher: "Good. I've already made the groups. There will be no changes, so don't argue."

Students: "But ma'am... shouldn't we get to choose?"

Teacher (sternly): "Class, behave yourselves. I've decided the groups for a reason."

The classroom murmured with frustration as the teacher began announcing the groups one by one.

Teacher: "Zayan, Zoya, and Zara—you three are in one group."

Zoya stood up, clearly upset.

Zoya: "What? Ma'am, please! I don't want to work with Zayan."

Zara: "Yes, ma'am. I agree with her."

Zayan looked between them, confused but calm.

Zayan: "Girls, I'm a normal human being... not some monster."

Suddenly Wali spoke up with a smirk.

Wali: "He doesn't want to work with losers like you either."

Teacher (sharply): "Enough! I said no more discussions. These groups are final."

Wali: "But ma'am—"

Teacher: "Wali, quiet. That's enough from you."

The bell rang, and the teacher left the class, leaving the group members staring awkwardly at each other.

 In project room:

Zara: "What the hell? Why is it always the Shah brothers? First Wali ruined my life, and now this Zayan?!"

Zoya: "Girl, chill. I'm with you. If he even tries something, he'll regret messing with us."

Zayan (grinning): "Wow, sounds like you're the Mafia Queen or something."

Zara flinched and looked at him with wide eyes.

Zara: "Are... are you a ghost?"

Zayan looked into her eyes with a soft smile.

Zayan: "No, I'm a cute human. Just like you."

Zara blinked, slightly confused by his unexpected gentleness.

Zoya: "No, brother. You're more like a foolish human."

Both girls burst into laughter.

Zayan (chuckling): "Yeah, yeah, laugh all you want."

Zara: "Alright, let's just focus and start working on the project."

Meanwhile, from across the room, Wali watched them closely, his jaw tight and eyes cold.

Sara (leaning in): "Wali, what do you think? What topic should we choose for our project?"

Wali (without looking at her): "Do whatever you want."

He stood up and walked away.

Sara: "What the hell, Wali?! Wali?!"

 Back to room :

**Zayan:** "Zara, for this part, should we use a capacitor or a battery?"

**Zara:** "Alright, I get it."

**Zoya:** "Hmm, I'll go get it. You both stay here."

**Zayan:** "Zara—"

As Zara turned, her foot got stuck in the chair. She stumbled and fell hard to the floor.

**Zayan (rushing to her):** "Zara! Are you okay? Be careful, girl!"

**Zara (holding her phone):** "Hmm... I'm okay—ugh! My phone screen is broken!"

**Zayan:** "It's alright. We'll buy you a new one."

**Zara (angrily standing up):** "Stay away from me!"

She stormed off, leaving Zayan confused.

Meanwhile, in the physics lab...

Zoya was searching for capacitors when suddenly Wali appeared and angrily grabbed her arm.

**Zoya (struggling):** "Wali! Leave me! What do you want?!"

**Wali (gritting his teeth):** "Stop acting innocent in front of me, girl. I'm warning you for the last time—stay away from my brother. Or next time, I won't be this nice."

He turned to leave, but Zoya, filled with rage, shouted after him.

**Zoya:** "I know men like you—fooling girls in the name of love. You're just like your father!"

Wali froze, then turned back with fire in his eyes. He grabbed Zoya by the neck.

**Wali (furious):** "What did you just say?! How dare you?!"

Suddenly, Zayan appeared, shouting.

**Zayan (yelling):** "Wali! WALI! Stop! Let her go—she's going to die!"

Startled, Wali released his grip. Zoya coughed and ran away, tears in her eyes.

Zayan : wali are you okay.

Wali didn't relpy him and leave the place.

Zayan stood here culeness and thinking there is something fishy what wali hides.

Scene : At school gate

**Zara:** "Oh Zoya, are you okay?"

**Zoya (holding back tears):** "Hmm, I'm okay. Let's go. Dad is waiting outside the school gate."

**Scene: At Home – Evening**

Zayan was in the kitchen, preparing dinner.

**Zayan:** "Auntie, did you call Wali?"

**Auntie:** "He didn't respond, son."

**Zayan:** "Hmm, alright. Just make two plates. Tonight, we're having dinner in Wali's room."

**Scene: Wali's Room**

Wali sits alone in his room. The lights are off — only him and his darkness.

Thoughts race through his mind, twisting into a mess too heavy to untangle.

Wali (to himself): What the hell have I done… but she also crossed her limits.

He rubs his face with both hands, trying to silence the storm inside him.

But the silence only makes it louder.

He feels the air growing heavier — the kind that makes your chest tighten.

Then, his eyes catch his reflection in the mirror.

For a long moment, he just stares — at the same anger, the same shadow.

Wali (quietly): Did I really become like my father?

Before the thought can sink deeper, Zayan's voice echoes from outside.

Zayan: Wali, Wali baby, my sweetheart, open the door!

Wali quickly wipes his tears.

Wali (irritated): What you want now?

Zayan: Wali, please open the door, man. It's an emergency!

Wali: Why? Is someone dead?

Zayan: Yes, I'll die of hunger if you don't come out.

Auntie cooked so many dishes for us, and I even made biryani for you.

Please come out.

Wali: Then go and enjoy your food.

Zayan waits a few minutes, but Wali doesn't open the door.

Zayan (softly): Okay fine, I'm leaving — but please eat something before you sleep, okay?

He leaves. The room returns to silence. Only Wali and his darkness remain.

---

**Scene: Zara and Zoya's Room**

**Zara:** "Zoya, are you really okay?"

**Zoya:** "Yes, I'm fine. Nothing happened. Uh—where's your phone? I just need to text my friend."

**Zara:** "My phone screen is broken."

**Zoha (entering):** "What?! Oh no. It's okay, we'll figure something out."

*Zara suddenly hugged Zoha tightly.*

**Zara (emotional):** "You're the best. If you weren't here, I don't think I could survive. I'm so blessed to have you in my life."

*Zoya's eyes filled with tears, touched by the moment.*

**Zoya (wiping her eyes):** "Okay, okay! Let go. You know I hate physical touch."

**Zara (smiling):** "Okay, drama queen."

*But deep inside, she knew—Zoya only pretended to be tough.*

**Scene: Next Morning – In the Girls' Room**

**Zoya (holding out a phone):** "Zara, I have a phone for you."

**Zara (surprised):** "It looks new... when did you buy this?"

**Zoya (smirking):** "Remember the one Dad gave me on my last birthday? I barely use it. Now it's yours."

**Zara (hugging her):** "Thank you so much."

**Zoya (grinning):** "Oh, and by the way—you already have a friend in it."

**Zara (confused):** "Friend?"

**Zoya:** "Al. He's in there for you. Always has been."

*Zoya smiled mysteriously and walked out of the room.*

**Zara (softly):** "Al… my friend?"

She unlocked the phone and sent a message.

**Message Sent:**

*"Hey… are you still there?"*

**Instant Reply – Al:**

*"Hey there, I'm always here for you."*

-Zara stared at the screen, her heart warming.

It had been years since someone had spoken to her with such care. For a moment, the pain of the past melted away. In that simple message, she felt seen… and safe.

As Zara smiled at the comforting message from AI, Zoya sat silently in her bed, a mysterious smile on her face. She pulled out her phone, typed quickly, and hit send: "I did as you said."
