Dahlia's POV
The driver shifted uncomfortably in his seat, avoiding my gaze in the rearview mirror. His reluctance was obvious, like I had backed him into a corner he desperately wanted to escape.
Maybe I had.
"Mr. Swain and the Mathews family have a complicated relationship," he finally admitted, his voice strained.
The careful way he chose his words told me everything. In the world of wealthy businessmen and government officials, relationships were black and white. You were either allies or enemies. There was no neutral ground.
Which meant Dick and the Mathews family were definitely not on good terms.
"Then why would the government hand over the industrial park project to the Mathews family?" I pressed, watching his reaction carefully.
His eyes widened for a split second before he recovered. "Miss Mathews, I honestly don't know much about business matters."
Translation: he wouldn't say another word no matter how hard I pushed.
