Dahlia's POV
Brandon's words sent ice through my veins.
Lorena died at exactly five twenty in the evening, which meant Brandon might have been the last person to speak with her. She was behind the wheel when it happened.
The police never found Lorena's cell phone after the crash. At the time, that detail seemed insignificant.
"Dahlia, you still there?" Brandon's voice pulled me back to the present.
"I'm here." I forced air into my lungs, fighting to keep my tone neutral and controlled.
"What exactly did Lorena tell you?" I pressed.
"She mentioned Eddie had reached out to her." Brandon's voice dropped, weighted with something I couldn't identify. "They weren't actually involved, were they?"
My stomach twisted. Lorena had claimed she was traveling to Weston City for business reasons, and I'd assumed she wanted to shield me from the Zaid family's potential retaliation. The possibility that Eddie was her real motivation had never crossed my mind.
