Elysium[1998]

–Damian Hawthorne—

His eyes snapped open, alertness returning to his body as he woke up, and took a look at his current dwelling, and sighed as he dropped back down on the bed. The mattress, questionable as it looked, was the most comfortable thing he had slept on in all the time he had been in this universe.

In a way, it had been quite stressful, to say the least. He knew quite a bit of the Marvel Universe but next to nothing about the Harry Potter one, save for what he learned through osmosis from his friends or from memes online, which was quickly becoming his source of news for the current events, back in his previous life.

Now though? He was new to everything, and while preparing himself, learning about his powers, and overall learning how to defend himself against the many threats in this universe was important, he just wished he had access to the information somehow.

It would make acquainting with this universe much smoother. Alas, he did not have an internet connection and who's to say that the equivalent of Google and Wikipedia in this universe were not just magically hijacked versions of themselves, instructed to censor anything that might hint at the world that lay behind the curtain of normality.

With a groan, he got up, pausing as he did not have anything for his usual morning routine, so he just wiped the drool off his face and got out of the shack, after checking in on the bottle of milk, obviously.

He was curious about the prickly magical sensation he got yesterday, as if something was pressing down on him from above, something that went away as soon as he looked up, but he had other pressing stuff to do right now, like use real toiletries.

At least he hoped these people had it. He would hope that they were not that kind of hippies, though Newt did not look like that yesterday.

"You're awake," He grinned as the doors to the cabin opened up, revealing Sev dressed the same as yesterday, though he looked fresh enough. Maybe he had multiple pairs of the same outfit?

"Well, when one sleeps in the epitome of luxury that is that shack, one tends to wake up early." He snarked back, as he walked into the cabin, or barged in would be the right word, looking for the kitchen. He needed some hot water to make tea. Starting the day without it did not quite feel right to him.

He sounded like an addict there, but eh, there were worse addictions out there.

"I don't assume you guys have spare toothbrushes, do you? Or is that too much to ask here, in this Elysium of yours?" He asked, as he tried to open the two doors to his sides, but they did not budge.

"Go straight, make a left when the hallway ends and the kitchen should be visible. Also, spare toiletries are in the washrooms, on the right. Freshen up, we have important stuff to do," Sev said, gruffly, sipping on a cup of steaming something that was not there before.

"Wow," He turned around, facing the man who just raised an eyebrow at his shocked look, exaggerated as it was, "I think that's the most I've seen you talk in all the time I've known you."

He turned around, finally seeing Newt who scoffed at his statement, "You've known him days. I've known him for years, and that's the most he's talked of his own volition. You should be proud. Now, run along. We have stuff to do."

His eyes narrowed as he heard both of them speak the same words, before nodding and hurrying along. Whatever it was that they had planned for him, it could wait. A hot(hopefully) bath and a fully stocked(again, hopefully) washroom awaited him.

But, before that, tea it was.

Whistling, he marched towards his goal.

Man, this adult mind in a child's physique sometimes messed with his priorities, almost forcing him to prioritise good stuff that his child brain wants.

Setting down the cup of tea on the table as if it was a shot of liquor, he looked at the amused face of Newt who was sitting down, while Sev was standing right behind him, "So? What's this important stuff you keep talking about?"

"Before that," Newt began, "How would you like a tour of Elysium? It is a very–"

He stopped the old man right there, "Let me stop you right there. While this place is very beautiful and I would definitely love to take a tour when I have the time, now is not the time. Like I told Sev when I first met him, I would like to leave this place, immediately."

Newt and Sev changed troubled looks, as he continued, "Look, if London is too far for you guys, then just drop me at the closest city. I can make my way from there. Cross country or even continental teleportation is very hard, I understand that, so just drop me at the nearest city and that's that."

He waited for a moment as Newt locked eyes with him. He was serious about that and he hoped his face conveyed that. He was not about to sit here, doing what these people wanted him to do while the world outside remained unknown to him.

He had a shot to learn about the literal magic world, and coincidentally, he also had the tools to navigate the incredibly dangerous magical world.

Huh. The advice he got in his previous life about avoiding things that nature did not bother hiding, worked for universes as well. The flashier, the more magical a universe? The more dangerous it got.

"Fine," Newt exhaled, bringing him back to reality as he watched Sev, standing behind Newt, open his mouth to speak, only to clamp it shut when Newt just raised his hand. "I'll take you to London. Now, come with me."

The chair slid back as he and Sev both followed Newt, him remaining silent but Sev was not one to remain silent, which was odd because the man really struck out to him as the silent broody type. A looks like he could kill you, will kill you kind of guy.

Sev whispered but they might as well been shouting for the effect it had, "Wait! I can take him to the nearest city. Once we are past the forest, we can easily slip into–"

"Don't bother, my choice is made," Newt said as they began walking through the maze that was this cabin. It looked very small on the outside but that was only because it was the ground floor. They were currently in the basement, which was like, ten times larger than the top.

The left and right of that hallway were just stairs leading to the basement levels, which was huge, and also very confusing for a first timer.

Soon, they came across the end of the hallway, a very unassuming looking red wooden door, as Newt stabbed his walking stick at the door to bash it open, revealing a dark, empty room, with only the three candles that lit up magically as soon as the door opened.

Sev stayed outside so he stayed as well, watching Newt walk to the end of the room, and take something before coming back towards the door. His gaze zeroed in on his right hand, now sporting a sling ring of all things?

"Come on? Weren't you in a hurry?" Newt said as he hurried into the room, waving at Sev who had a really gloomy look on his face for some reason.

Midway through, he realised something, turning around only for his hands to shoot up, catching the bag in one hand, and....."Hey!" He yelped, fumbling around as he dropped the leather bag to carefully secure the bottle of milk.

He glared at Sev who threw his precious at him, and then placed it properly in the bag before turning to Newt, "I'm ready."

Newt grinned at him, "I'm sure you are. Before you go though, I need you to just–"

"What the–" He cursed as he jumped back, glaring at an empty stop in the air, as the translucent form of Voltrok was revealed to him, who promptly disappeared, as he looked at his now bleeding finger, going past his forcefield.

"Forgive him, Voltrok's a little quirky, perks of spending all his time with an old man like me." Newt smiled at him, something that did NOT put him at ease.

He peered at the man suspiciously, as Newt merely smiled and waved his hands, opening a portal to…a forest?

He deadpanned at the old man, "I am not going there. Who knows where that is. I specifically told you to send me to a city. I am not that big of a fool."

"Do you have any idea what will happen to me if I open a portal and someone sees it?"

He scoffed, "So? That's not my problem. Bring me where I can at least see a building or something. Otherwise, I am not leaving."

Newt sighed, and closed the portal before restarting the process, "First, he wants to leave immediately. Now, he says he won't leave."

The portal opened once more, bathing the room in its glow as a small road and a building was visible in the distance. He smiled and nodded, jumping through the portal.

"Thank you, Old man! I'll be at Kamar Taj in a couple of years, so send me a letter there. Or Hogwarts. Whatever works for you."
